I don’t think it’s that deep. I doubt she is meant to be THE new face, but A new face.
Also keep in mind that I’m pretty sure we dislike Sylvie for different reasons. I don’t like her because she shows no sign of strength or Fighting/martial arts skill, unappealing design, and overly cutesy nature. But I don’t think that she doesn’t fit or belong, I just don’t like her because she’s not the type of character that I like. And if she is a big deal, then she’ll be no different then Bridget from Guilty Gear to me. Yeah I hate his guts and am very vocal about it but eventually I shut up about it cuz other people like him, for some reason.
The only reason Sylvie is getting focused on currently is because she’s new. When her other 2 teammates are shown, or “Pillow Boy” or even “Geese’s Not-A-Butler”, we’ll focus on them just as much.
Even for those who don’t think the new people fit KoF… COOL! You get enough Classic KoF Characters in this game to make an old school KoF, and all these new guys will be larger than the cast of a first run of an AKSYS fighter. So it’s almost like you’re getting 2 or more fighters in one!
Ever wanted to BUSTAH WULF a character from “another game” in the face? WELL HERE’S YOUR CHANCE!
Yeah you don’t have to like the character, everyone has their own taste. But there is no need to put them down and talk about how they shouldn’t bebin the game as if you have entitlement to the series. Just stick to your characters and let others stick to theirs.
I don’t like Chin or Tung Fue Rue, but I don’t bitch about him every 5 seconds
A. It’s annoying
B. It’s petty
C. I’m more interested in my favs
D. I don’t want to bother someone else who liked that character
E. I know that there are others that do like those characters which is nice
F. There are way to many characters in the game for me to be obsessed with putting down a select few
Also if you don’t like the character, please just express that ONCE and move on, constantly repeating it gets annoying and makes no one respect your opinion more. If anything, it makes some people want to pick up that character even more.
And stop trying to justify why a character shouldn’t be in a game. It’s one thing to hate on them, it’s another to force your opinion down everyone else’s throat just because.
i understand np , my last reply on this , before fighting game are very dark and bad ass , look the era of fatal fury special or sf2ce or mk1 , or tekken , vf 1,killer instinct, you only have a little bit of goofy but not too much and have any Arcana Hearts character , and this era really build all franchise name snk =terry bogard sf2 ryu ken ect , after 98 kof try too bring a lot of new character and a lot of Arcana Hearts character style , and everyone know how snk go down , street fighter never go too far using too much this type of character maybe only rose ,and look the result , i have np too have some new character dam i love the new dino westler is looking so bad ass , but plz stop the Arcana Hearts character style , because the game is kof not Arcana Hearts, ok peace my last comment of this
Yeah you didn’t even read that guys comment, you just keep repeating the same bullshit.
It’s like talking to a wall with you.
Get over it, she’s in the game and fits in KOF. You seem to forget cute girl characters have always existed in KOF, even Yuri and Athena (especially Athena) since day 1.
Complaining about Sylvie every 5 seconds is not going to make her disappear from the game or all of existence.
Sylvie’s profile, and for those thinknig she would have really sat with Igniz and the gang, no she was a reject.
"Sylvie
A remaining survivor from the Nests cartel who can control electromagnetic power at will.
NESTS treated Sylvie as completely useless member since she couldn’t bring out her potential back when the cartel was around, but she later woke up to her power after the organization had demolished and started making use of it in the underground fighting scene.
From there, she was scouted by the tournament organizer of the KOF tournament."
Nest Cast primally villains were the most eccentric of KoF Villian types, Sylvie, fits that role quite well if she is a member Nest. A common traits of NEST villians was dominance, cockiness and elitism, not to mention out their costume (Ignize, Zero, Krizallid, Angel, K999). Only one who technically modest is Ron and was’t really part of NEST and had temporary partnership to meet his goals and quickly defect upon the story climax.
Another to note about Sylvie is that her design can be Extraterrestrial theme, whose to say NEST not been dealing with aliens? They had weapon and Satellite base in space. It fits nicely when you consider NEST Super technological background that involve cloning, super soldier, mass production, and memory wiping.
But considering how the New protagonist suppose to be “demon boy” Sylvie may juts be into the demonic stuff of Nest, While I don;t see NEST being too interested in Occult stuff but they most likely invested some part into it since they were aware of Kusangi flame origins. They even had member of Hozoku Clan in their ranks so their probably not above demonic stuff.
Nest also always had an agenda expanding, they attempt mass producing super soldiers and fail. They may be attempting recruitment by manipulating masses with media figure heads . Sylvie may been task with gathering fan as potential supporters or subjects by disguise of pop idol sensation. Its the perfect cover as well.
While small a reoccurring thing with NEST saga was subtle creature appearance. Foxy as Hornet, Diana as Moth/butterfly. Zero owning a Black Lion of all things. Now we have Sylvie who…well what ever those eyes are.
With all this possibilities its not far fetch set up for Sylvie to be part of Nest.
Edit:
OR just rejected member who was scouted…that works too.
Maaaan, we’ve had people like Sylvie for years now. For every hardened, diligent-looking martial arts man/woman in KOF, there’s a skinny, cutesy-looking little boy/girl. There’s Ryo, but there’s also Chris and Bao. There’s King, but there’s also Kula and Momoko. I think KOF’s already established at this point that the series can dive into ridiculous looking moe styles if it wants to.
I mean, I don’t think I’ll ever use her, but I don’t think she doesn’t fit into the KOF aesthetic.
The idea of Sylvie being a NESTS remnant is really interesting to me. Haven’t people theorized that the Hooded Man on the same team is a remnant of Those From the Past? I wonder what that could mean for the Masked Lady and her affiliations.
Sylvie, it’s fine I kind of like the character it’s just that she has way too much shit going on on her design. Snk should include in the future some alternative outfit as dlc, give her some plain shirt and tight pants and I’m all for it.
I don’t care either way, good character design has gone down the toilet since the nests saga ended, Japan was taken over by stupid childish lolis and it doesn’t look like there’s a sign of change.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the other 2 character from her team look just as weird.
I don’t think you realize how goofy all off the games you mentioned are. Fatal Fury- ok. SF 2- Blanka and his mommy/Zangief crossacking with Gorbachev. Tekken- Jack/Yoshimitsu/ Nina’s T1 ending/ Dr.Boskonovich/ every arcade ending of Heihachi past T3. Mortal Kombat- literally a cheeky parody of Blood Sport. KI- everything about KI.
Also just what do you mean when you say “Arcana Hearts” type? Because it’s starting to seem like you mean women.
I find it interesting how the Asian PS Blog mentions that Vice looks frail, but has super-human strength. “Cute but Competent” isn’t so far off from “Frail but Strong” as a concept; Even Kim’s bleeding sense of Justice could be seen as villainous from certain perspectives.
Clashing traits make interesting characters. To be able to dress elegantly, but act strong… these things leave memorable impression.
