I was so salty when I saw some of my favs weren’t coming back to XIV( whip, BAEnessa, etc) but after looking at the character select someone made it actually looks like a very fresh and interesting roster. Good mix of old and new characters.
“It looks like I’ll have to teach people who have been playing for years about a game I am terrible at and can’t articulate points about at all because I have not been playing the game for a long period of time at all.”
It’s seriously getting to the point where everyone should just filter ReoGeo.
You are using the words fundamentals, spacing, and mind games like buzzwords. Just saying those words does not hold any weight or merit. You need to form points around them and why those videos are demonstrating what you say they are actually demonstrating.
Fast matches are not inherently a good thing. 98 matches are plenty fast but you still complain about that game, but only because you lose. If you actually played people in XI you would lose as well, but because you haven’t played people in XI you still hold on to some sort of twisted rose tinted glasses that keep the game looking prettier than it actually is. The matches are aggressive because no one can control space. Oswald showing that you need solid fundamentals and spacing? Why? Because all I saw in that first match was Oswald literally pushing buttons and confirming into easy damage from both players. Urasia tried to roll out of pressure a few times but Oswald had plenty of time to press a cr.B, react to the roll, then punish the roll with cr.B. He wasn’t expecting the roll, nor was he doing an OS to cover his options, he was pushing buttons and reacting to the situation. You also had tons of crossup j.C from both players because that move is practically impossible to anti air consistently due to the deep angle it hits as well as the very slimmed down hurtbox Oswald has while pressing that button. There was not much spacing or strong mental games going on, that is simply a move that cannot reasonably be dealt with from most characters. Then you have Kula and Kvs Kim, a character with some of the strongest anti air game in KoF history, and Kim cannot stop Kula j.C or K j.B. In general this video is very jump happy, not much hop checking going on, no fireball game from K`, it was two people running at each other and pushing buttons.
The second video is more of the same, Gato using his airdash to close the distance instantly, hard to stop offensive pressure, easy tag combos into easy damage on basic hits, no spacing, no area denial, no hop checks, two people running at each other and pushing buttons. And I’m really not even getting into all the bad shit that’s going on, if Laban is going to do a writeup I’m sure he’ll be much more thorough than I was and would get more into the mental game of how is Kim supposed to condition Kula that she can’t just hop C or instant overhead j.D all day long when most of Kim’s options to stop that shit either lose or trade or just whiff entirely, why should I ever stop just doing my most unsafe pressure strings that lead to my best damage when if they get blocked I can just tag out and keep my pressure going anyways, and so on and so forth.
Seriously, you think these matches are better than they are because you don’t understand what is even going on. You think the game is more enjoyable than it actually is because you have never played someone who seriously put in time into the game before. You think XI is good because you are bad at KoF.
As said by John your vocabulary is forced. Word of advice, if you can’t do consistent supers in 98, the least you could do is listen when the better players of the group(the entire group for that matter) say your game is bad and move on.
I don’t think that Guilty Gear is too hard to learn, it just looks intimidating. If you do the tutorial and a couple of trials, you’ll be fine.
I think KoF is similar in that regard. KoF is kinda scary because it requires that you learn 3 characters and inputs are a bit less lenient than Street Fighter. But with some fundamentals and some reflex training to deal with short hops, you realize it’s not too tough. That being said I think KoF is definitely tougher for me, mainly because I played Persona before I ever tried GG and Persona is more or less GG for beginners however my days of 3s and SFIV never prepared me for KoF
Thanks @JohnGrimm , you covered the main general gist of it. The argument isn’t even a real argument. No definitions, statements that are barely propositions of value. Reogeo has to start from the ground up and actually make points instead of tossing glittering generalizations without even pinpointing or timescoring what exactly is going on and why should it be valued as good.
To reiterate what JohnGrimm said, “you think these matches are better than they are because you don’t understand what is even going on. You think the game is more enjoyable than it actually is because you have never played someone who seriously put in time into the game before. You think XI is good because you are bad at KoF.” And I’ll add that Reogeo only like KOFXI because he hasn’t played a good KOFXI player. If he’s already frustrated at KOF98’s unique subsystems not making it like “ST,” KOFXI will be more so. Weaker normals than ST, weaker space control than ST, weaker play style variety than either KOF98 or ST.
As I said, it’s really ironic that that Reogeo wants games like KOF98 or Fatal Fury Special to play more like ST, yet he puts KOFXI on the pedestal. It’s very, very ironic. KOFXI plays even further apart and stupider than ST than either KOF98 or Fatal Fury Special. So what is it? Does Reogeo not understand fighting games at all so he doesn’t see that KOFXI is actually the opposite of his very ideal? Or, is he intellectually dishonest and realizes he likes shitty games that don’t even play close to ST and praise KOFXI because he can actually do special moves in it unlike something like KOF98? Is he that willing to be a hypocrite just to protect his own pride? Is he that willing to ignore mine and others’ points to keep up this imaginary fantasy? Does he really want to eat his cake and have it too?
Every I point out his hypocrisy in values, he conveniently ignores it. He’s shown so far he’s the kind of person to repeat something ad nauseum, even if it isn’t true, as a means of making it “reality.” He’s a very persistent person, if only he put that persistence in actually trying to learn to do moves consistently in KOF98. Alas, the only thing he strives for is his shallow, meager ego. If anything, it’s very poetic. Yet another narrative about the human identity, ego, and hubris. One isn’t actually free or liberated, especially when one is a slave to one’s own ego. Human ego promises pleasure, it is something never satisfied, and only brings eternal suffering. Can I even call something like that even human? Insects are more honest; thus they are filled with more integrity? We are the insects, while other living creatures are more fulfilled and contented. They live within the reality of their own perception, while humanity takes so kindly to live only within their imagination for meaningless pretense. There is no truth for us in that world.
I’ll say it, I do enjoy KOFXI from time to time, but I’ll be honest and say it isn’t a good game. It’s like me playing KOF96. I know it’s not a good game, but I enjoy playing it. What I don’t like is people being very hypocritical by their own values. I don’t like it in religion, I don’t like it in politics, I don’t like it in even “insignificant” contexts. Own up.
are you incappable of accepting that people may not like what you like? man i like anchovies on pizza but i dont cry everytime someone says that taste like shit
When I got involved in the FGC years ago during the 3s days, KOFXI was the game that really caught my attention. It felt great, looked great and I enjoyed watching the game played by good people. Almost everyone I’ve talked from that era of the FGC cites KOFXI as their favourite, maybe it’s because it was the first KOF when I got exposed to the competitive scene but ever since I bought it I’ve always loved it.
KOF98 is very new to me and very foreign. I tried playing it but I got destroyed effortlessly by dudes picking random teams. Objectively speaking I’ll concede to the points you made, however there are plenty of broken aspects in KOF98 as well. In KOF98, goro is by far the most broken thing about any SNK game ever and is single handily the reason I had to quit KOF98.
Surprise, people who don’t play KoF enjoy the KoF that plays the least like KoF. I don’t even remember what page I said this on so I’ll say it again, the people who say KoFXI is a good game either started with XI or like every KoF game regardless of how shit it is. Any fan of the series who looks at the game objectively says it’s a shit game, because it is.
Goro isn’t even the most broken character in 98 let alone half the shit in most SNK games, but you’re still going to complain no matter what.
as someone who is legitimately shit at fighting games and even the ones i like im going to go on and say right this moment that you are the biggest pansy in the world right now,i know you would more than likely have a easier time learning a game than i ever would but you want to reduce yourself to a crying child just because you can’t pass this one hurdle as easy as the last one, fighting games are a uphill battle for everyone so either keep pushing forward and give it your best or just stay in your little safe zone forever,a scrub shouldn’t even have to be telling you this dude jesus christ
Complain about Daimon but not about Kula/Gato/Oswald. Hmpf.
Before one challenges others, one has to challenge one’s own self. To look at one’s own inadequacies, to stare down the truth one wasn’t willing to face. That’s strength, that’s growth. It’s the kind of change that leads to progress, a new world. One will never see that world if one isn’t willing to look at one’s true self and push forward. Cast away one’s eyes from the truth only to stare blankly into a world of pretend and hubris. One’s hands will never hold anything.
My sinuses and this Bronchitis is making me say stuff
It’ll come back some day. My fro needs a break. Beard is donzo though. You’ll see a lot more afro when I start streaming more often and making youtube videos. I just hit a fucking sick chip-in eagle with homing shot on a pin shot in Hot Shots Golf World Invitational that I’m going to put on youtube soon and cream.
