On a unrelated note I was watching some fatal fury special matches and I got to thinking that this game could have easily been better then ST if they just tweaked a few things. If they removed the plane shifting, increased the game speed to turbo 2 and implemented a conventional super meter it could have been a amazing game.
Fatal Fury is good and makes sense. Just because it isn’t Street Fighter doesn’t mean it’s some half assed not thought out game doing things different for the sake of being different.
The thing is that plane shifting didn’t add anything and it was dumb. If they just stuck to a conventional 2D design and increased the speed I’m almost certain the game would still be played as much as ST is today. I’m not saying it has to be a clone I’m just saying it has to abide by the same conventions that work towards a functional and enjoyable game.
It adds dodging and counters to that dodging and works just fine. Look man, I get that you like a certain type of game but just because a game doesn’t fit that mold doesn’t mean it’s flawed.
If Fatal Fury Special ain’t broken, then don’t fix it, right? No reason to reinvent the wheel by making it try to play like ST, especially since FFS predated ST by a year.
i’ve been lurking here for the better part of a month before i joined and i really want to know is something up with you man? you start playing '98 on fightcade then throw a fit and say you want to quit when you get beaten knowing full well the people have been play a lot longer than you and you’re always trying to say (insert SNK game) should play like (insert SF game),so like i said before man whats up with you do you want to play KoF or do you want to play Street Fighter
I like SNK games and in fact prefer the KOF roster over the SF roster. I’m probably a bigger fan of SNK now then I am capcom given my feelings towards SF4 and post 09 capcom in general. My simple point is that I feel that if something proves reliable and functional then why change it for the sake of changing. For example let’s use cars as a analogy. We all know the basics of car design and how they’re suppose to work. Do manufactures try to change this and make cars into something strange and unique just to stand out. If fatal fury special had just worked on the principles of ST with their own unique brand of style it would have been a amazing game that IMO would have surpassed st.
See, this might be a good idea on paper. However, if they just copy street fighter they’re essentially just putting a non-original game and hoping people miraculously choose it over Street Fighter.
Nigga, I said Fatal Fury Special came out a year before Super Street Fighter II Turbo. How can you even “copy” a game that wasn’t even publicly out yet?
I agree just making a clone isn’t a good idea but look at garou. Garou clearly took inspiration from 3s and ended up being one of the best games SNK ever made. Also ok maybe not fatal fury special specially but what about real bout 1.
Also, welcome to the thread and to SRK! Kinda sad that some stupid-posting made you come out of lurk mode, but welcome to the community either way. I generally like to help people with KOF, but I’m not going to shy away from calling people out on their uncouthness. If you or any other poster/lurker has any questions about KOF in general, I’ll do my best to answer them!
