figure i drop in and say hi since this is the only play i can find that has a decent discussion about kof,im not particularly good at fighting games but KoF has always been my favorite series and im hoping XIV does really well
The Lee that the twins rip off is a Capcom character. Some of Yunâs (and therefore NG Yang) moves are directly taken from him. If there are any similarities with FH Lee, then it might be because FH Lee copies from and expands on SF1 Lee.
Is it just me or does the skin textures look a lot better in that pic. I donât know if this is a screen cap but it looks like the visuals are really sharp and improved. I wonder if this demo will be the same build as PSX or a more developed one.
Itâs gonna be majorly dissapointing, hype-wise, if itâs the PSX build again. It gives us no incentive to follow the event or watch their stream coz itâs the same stuff weâve been seeing since december. Especially considering theyâve revealed a good amount of characters other than the 6 in the PSX build yet we donât have any real footage/info on any of them.
Their marketing plan so far is very lackluster compared to what the other FG companies are doing with trailers, character reveals, info/hype flow etc.
The only thing that is lacking is the gameplay footage. Actual reveals have been better than most other games. Theyâve been revealing more characters at a faster rate than any other game.
The press for this game is terrible. Itâs taking too long for any good info to come out and we keep seeing the same damn demo over and over again. We want a beta, more gameplay demos featuring good players and more developer interviews.
There have been like 6+ interviews and 14 reveals plus gameplay footage in the course of 3 months. We learned more about KoFXIV than we learned about SFV in an entire year. How has the press been terrible? What are you expecting, a reveal every day? Besides a beta, they have not been doing any less than any other developer. Do you know how long Capcom demoed off the E3 build of SFV? It was more than two god damn months, and that was the first beta even.
I donât even understand the complaints here, SNK has been showing off things at a more rapid pace than any other game or developer and it still isnât enough. You people are being ridiculous.
I think itâs more of an issue that the GENERAL MEDIA didnât really cover the game much.
Where did we learn all the KOF14 news from?
Announcement trailers from SNKP Japanese youtube channel
Interview translations from mmcafe
Staff updates from Facebook page
Some blog posts by PlayStation US and PlayStation EU
And the only live onstage game demo has only been done a few days ago, 3 months after the games initial announcement. Not only did they showcase an older build of the game (at least visually), the demo itself was done on Taiwanese and a very bad English. The TWLIVE channel had like 5k viewers when KOF14 was shown, the Twitch channel had like 2k viewers, so they showed the game to 7000 people without explaining much to an English speaking audience because half of the translation didnât make any sense
So far SNK hasnât done anything other than announcing characters and the game itself to interest the general public and even potential customers among FGC members
Average Joe will just look at it and go âeh, such shitty graphicsâ and close the tab. Why? Because unless they research by themselves (look up what king of fighters is at all) - they wonât know shit about the game, because SNK hasnât bothered to explain much of it
-Conprehensive breakdown trailer showing off all the new tech and gameplay mechanics
-Conprehensive features trailer showing all the game modes and story mode
-More character reveals at least once a week
-More gameplay demos with good players and polished builds that reflect the current development build
-CGI hype trailers
-Release date
-Day to day commentary by oda talking about the game and his time at SNK
-More mainstream coverage
-Beta
Yes they revealed more characters but they didnât show us anything aside from âyeah theyâre in the gameâ. With Ralf all we got is Galactica Phantom for example, King was shown doing trap shot and thatâs itâŚ
NRS had fully themed trailers for characters for example showcasing most of their moves as well a developer stream to explain the characterâs tools, gameplay and showing what they can do.
SF5 did a full trailer with the characterâs theme showing normals, specials, combos, v-skill and v-trigger, super and so on.
Tekken 7 trailers show combos, strings, other gameplay quirks, supers, intros and outros etc.
Blazblue also had full on trailers for each character with moves, specials, theme and even story dialogue.
KI has trailers with the characterâs stage, theme, backstory, in-game dialogue, moves and intro/outro.
KoFXIV has had more trailers but they were a) mostly recycled with the Kyo/Iori nonsense in the beginning
B) barely showing anything new, same music, same stages (the Beni one showed a new stage tho), still no release date etc
C) revealed characters donât show much, some barely got 1 move shown and some didnât even get that (Angel).
Theyâve improved compared to their previous titleâs marketing, but what Iâm saying is that the other FG companies are way ahead in this aspect with trailers that are much more polished and much more hype as they have more content showcased in them.
