KoF XIII General Discussion: Part II

Thanks!

Although this is still in development, I’d recommend the SRK KOFXIII Hyperguide.

http://wiki.shoryuken.com/The_King_of_Fighters_XIII

The general mechanics should be covered. The character specific pages are still being filled out. Some of the most fleshed out pages to check are King, Terry, and Joe. Some of the info is still up to editorial work so there might be shift in changes here and there. Nothing too drastic.

i dont think i have ever played kof before but is there a character named duck king in it ?

i remember him in a game cant remember what one.

Duck King appears in KOF XI, and he is a relevant high tier character. Otherwise he only appears in Fatal Fury games.

new rumors:
For those of you who don’t speak french :

  • It was a debug version of the game so there was a lot of unfinished tings like missing colors, musics, or unmoving stages…
  • Billy was playable. Saiki was playable but NOT the muscular boss version of the arcade… It’s the Saiki we see in the cut scenes, with a interesting movelist.
  • 4 or 5 new stages. A temple with red torches, the Billy Big ben one, Betie’s garden, one who takes place in a plane, a deserted alley… and the famous japan stage from KOF 96 totally redrawn in HD.
  • This was posted on june 25 of this year ( before we knew anything about Billy, or/and the new stages… )

Confirmed:

  1. Billy Kane (XII disc info then confirmed by SNKP)

Possible due to proof:

  1. Saiki (XIII Countdown speech bubble artwork)
  2. Iori95/98 (XII disc info)
  3. Chang (XIII Blog artwork)
  4. Momoko (XIII Blog artwork)
  5. Malin (XIII Blog artwork)
  6. Oswald (XIII Blog artwork)

Rumored with no proof:

  1. Botan
  2. Jhun
  3. Choi
  4. Adelheid
  5. Yamazaki
  6. Eiji
  7. Mary

Sounds neat. Only time could truly tell

Thanks Laban, these new SRK hyperguides are great. Movelists and basic combos go a long way. And hopefully it’ll fill up with even more info when it’s released proper on console.
Vice page seemed pretty filled out as well.

why do you make up stuff like this?

also lets hoe non of the characters are dlc, that would be dumb. as dumb as the people who who bought those costumes for sf4 series.

You compare shitty costumes with characters, actual gameplay content? Maybe more accurate would be to compare them to shuma/jill of mvc3 or makoto/etc of bb or skarlet/kenshi/rain of mk9.

characters are far more valuable than just costumes. the DLC market is huge and a lot of companies sell DLC and many buy it.
So who benefits more? The people that buy characters DLC or the people that complain and miss out?

Also SNKP spent more time and money developing the sprites than any other company, they deserve extra money for their extra hard work.

In some cases, the last few months before releasing a game is all the physical work of finalizing, printing, and distributing the work. A company can’t just keep working on and tweaking the game until the day right before release then put the game out that next day. So although some of the content might be DLC on Day 1 might seem as if a company is withholding content just to make a bit more revenue, it might actually just be time constraints that can’t allow the company to put out that content that was almost finished.

So while in those few months during the finalization process, a separate team could be working on that DLC and digitally distribute the content that couldn’t be put on the disc in those last months. Stuff like Jill and Shuma-Gorath surely seem to be evidence of situations like that happening to a company, as those characters were almost complete on the disc.

I don’t mind DLC if that’s the case. I just don’t want too much patches or change ups happening during the mid-life of a game. There might be a few volatile aspects that the players wouldn’t understand at the release of the game, so the developers could try to preemptively patch and add characters early on. But, I prefer that a game would eventually settle down and let the meta-game fully develop without constant tweaks that always skew things later on.

dlc like music or whatever im cool with. but dlc characters would ruin the game. would they make the game worse by dividing 2 camps that do own and that dont own said characters. or would they fuck the game up by having 1 person being able to choose and play with said character and other person only being able to face the said character and not pick the characters up themselves. either way, its bs.

Oh well. For the camp to be divided, the individual still has to make the choice whether or not to simply pay an additional 5 or 8 USD for another character. It might be ridiculous if there were 30 more additional characters for 5 USD each, but as long as it’s only 2-3 characters, it should be fine. Will people be angry? Yes. Is it an arm or a leg? No. Is it somewhat of an inconvenience? That’s up to you.

If it means having DLC just to allow the characters that just missed the cut to be put into the game, I’m for DLC. If it means having patches made to our current copy of KOFXIII for console to be made just in case there is a newer arcade release with even more content, I’m still for DLC. If the net total spent on the game is more than twice/triple of the price of the game as it was on release day, then things are getting out of hand.

people have said this whole “divided into two camps” thing multiple times for games, but it doesnt actually happen to any significant extent.

i can’t believe people on srk act like fighting games aren’t of huge value compared to their $50 cost. oh no, i end up paying $5-$30 more for additional content! Surprise: Companies are under large pressure to push out DLC not only because of the pressure of release dates, but because while games have stayed at the price of $50 for a long time, the cost of making games has increased heavily. DLC is simply an attempt to try to add profit without increasing the base cost of the game. It is a result of technology and economics. (and some dickish publishers, in many cases)

I dunno, that’s like saying a new iteration of GG (with let’s say one new character and balance changes) for full price is going to divide the scene into those who have it and those who still only have the old iteration. I mean, that’s true, but who cares about the people that don’t update.
There are people still playing vanilla SF4 (because they don’t wanna pay for the new one or they don’t care), are they dividing the scene? Are these people really relevant?

With DLC at least it’s still the same game, and not buying the DLC doesn’t leave you completely in the dust (unless the DLC characters turn out to be really top tier maybe).

(In my best Cell Voice) INCREDIBLE

Wow, iPhone release with Billy and new stages? That’s random, but maybe it’ll get SNK some funds.
Wasn’t Khushnood(I keep thinking his name is Krushwood) Butt already cameoing in the jungle background?

Anyway, am I correct in assuming you can’t short hop from running? You have to stop running first? I just can’t get short hop while running.
Also, how do you select the “alternate” set of colors (listed for some characters like K on dream cancel wiki)?

Loving the bnb combos in this game. The difficulty of doing them feels just right, at a good balance. Not very hard, but not super easy. For a scrub like me at least. Still havn’t attempted fancy HD stuff though.
