KoF XIII General Discussion: Part II

Hey guys, a few quick questions:

  • I’ve been using Athena, Mature, Ryo as I like basic characters with good normals. I don’t know who I should use as anchor though, I’m thinking Ryo as he has the easiest hitconfirmable HD combo but is it really the best choice? I think Athena is my best character.

  • what’s the best thing to do after a successful command grab with Athena midscreen with no meter?

  • I’m having trouble doing quick dp.A>hcb.D motions when I’m doing HD or DC combos with Ryo in the corner, is there an easier way to do it, or any advice?

I’d really appreciate if someone could help out. I’m always up for KoF on Xbox (ESPECIALLY if you are better than me) my GT is KinetiK001 and I live in Tennessee.

WGC 2012 just finished with 2v2 team tournament, EliveProRF and Mr.KoF coming out on top! Check the replays for it when you can: http://www.twitch.tv/swga_maho

Haha ewwww MLG. XxXxX MLGPRO 420 BLUNTOKIN HD COMBO GOD XxXxX will be my name on the stream if I go.

It’s getting harder to play this game the more experienced people I come across. I feel like I can’t create openings no matter how hard I try and I get bombarded with crazy offense that never seems to stop with no openings to start an offense of my own.

Is there any kind of player database that is associated by what characters certain people use? I try to watch match vids, but it’s a long process when you’re trying to find people that use the characters you use.

How you pick your anchor is really up to you. But when I have three characters I look at their damage output and how well they function with and without extensive meter options. For example lets say I have Kensou, Claw Iori, and Leona(just random examples here) Claw Iori hits the hardest and most consistently(no need for Instant overhead shenanigans) so I'd put him on anchor. That's usually how I compose my teams. If you think Athena is your best character she can most likely do work on any spot in your team(although I think she is an amazing point character)

Speaking of Athena, if you're going for a no meter option off of a mid-screen command grab just let them fall. It does a decent amount of damage and is a hard knockdown too, if I'm not mistaken? Or if your crafty enough I'm sure you can run up and do some sort of hit reset for a mix-up of some sorts.

Yea, check out frame advantage. Also, if you are getting beaten by that run-in strategy, you should probably look at Laban’s video about that subject. It’ll give you some ideas how to get around it. I just do st.B right when they try to run in.

why is that in ranked once you opponent challenges you you cant leave even though you know their connection is shit
they need to fix that

what i learned from tournament/casuals at WB:

don’t fuck with kyo’s j.d.C. holy fuck if it wasn’t hitting the back of my neck it was straight up cleanly beating out my iori’s s.A/cl.C or goro’s s.A/ d/f.C. didn’t think the move was like that

anyway learned a lot of 13 from just playing and getting some Q&A from the players

If Kyo jumps in with j.2C and uses it early, then it’ll usually beat any normal AA attempt cleanly. But when he uses it early, it’s possible for him to run out of active frames which in turn might allow the defending player to crouch and make the attack whiff, leaving him open to a low as he lands. Likewise, you can usually crouch to make most cross up j.2C setups whiff so be ready to punish it. If he’s using it later to avoid getting tripped, you can use more traditional anti-airs. Any good DP should win, but you’ll have to read ahead into a setup or have great reactions.

I’m glad this game had a nice turnout at WB this past weekend. Still a bit mad I just missed Top 4. But I enjoyed playing others considering I haven’t had that much of a chance lately.

i just bought this game. it really feels lonely. i have a record of 5 games, 5 losses and everyone leaves after the 1st game. can someone pls tell me is HD when you activate that green bar that starts to run out? if yes how does it work? does it allow for possibilities, like say how a drive cancel makes it possible to chain 2 special moves? what can u do with HD? also what is DM and NM? would you guys say vice is a hard character to pick up? im trying to main her but her moves feel so awkard and easy to forget mid combo… unlike someone like terry who im also using.

There is a wiki, you know.

yeah i know that but right now i havent got the time to read the whole thing. i only just got the game aswell. its a simple enough question really

HD Mode allows you to perform as many Drive Cancels as you want until the meter runs out, with each cancel using up about 10% of the bar as it slowly drains down. It also allows you to perform drive cancels during a blockstring, which would normally be impossible, as well as allowing you to cancel into Neomax DMs (Max Cancel) out of certain DMs.

KoF is the main game I’m going for so I’m glad to see this!!

Benimaru is fucking bonkers in this game.

He’s not that amazing. Has a lot of great tools but honestly not that scary.
