KoF XIII General Discussion: Part II

I’m having trouble doing one of Leona’s trials. It starts out wanting you to do HK xx Moon Slasher, which is hold down, charge, up plus lp/hp. Is there some trick to doing this? I can’t get it to work. I’m holding down, then releasing and trying to press hk, then up and punch, but it’s not working.

Could be the same trick you do with Terry. Charge first, then bring your stick to neutral back, or on the keyboard, that’s 4, and press D (HK). Then move along the side of the side of the circle to the ub back position and then straight up to press punch. Some technical stuff. You can “store” charges so this method should work.

you can’t do that for leona close HK since its two hits and you lose the charge. for her you need to just start charging as soon as you do it and finish the motion somewhat late. its actually really important to learn that because it enables her best punishment combos.

Anyone know how many frames you need to charge for charge moves?

Edit: Found it, 30 frames.

It’s very short. I think it’s like 30 something.

How do you unlock additional colors?

By the way, I saw a nude Raiden floating around…

You can unlock all of them if you play 40 matches with that specific character. They can be in Versus mode, online, etc. You should just keep playing and unlocking!

Thanks! Better practice that then.

I have another input question regarding Takuma. You’re supposed to be able to link his db,f+B/D from his f.b. The combo I’ve seen is cl.C,f.B xx db,f+B/D. It’s extremely hard to get this link. Is there some a shortcut to charging after the f.b?

nope, no shortcut. you just have to start charging the moment you hit f+B. its not a link, by the way… just a really late cancel.

Damn. This game is serious. Thanks. Just need some good ol’ fashioned practice. I’ve been spoiled with fighting games with more lenient input timing.

Same here, although I’ve never really been great at execution in the first place… so I’m using this game to help me get my execution up there.

It’s an especially fun task now that I’ve officially converted to arcade stick completely(lol, can’t stand pad now, except when I play Tekken). Been playing with it since March, but I’m still “fixing” my execution even on simple things such as QCFx2 motions from the 1P side (in AE it always comes out as DP instead unless I’m extremely, um… “deliberate” with my motions), which seem to be killing me in every fighter I play. I’ve been just doing the early trials, then watching the demo play and imitating parts of each trial to get used to the execution and start seeing how all the cancels and such work.

I plan to complete all the trials for my main team in the near future (Leona-Kula-Yuri (Terry) right now), and taking my time with others.

They do not mess around with these execution requirements.

Anyone else want character subforms?

when theres enough activity to justify it, then it’ll happen

Nearly everyone is doing trials and stuck in training mode trying to do max bar stuff on dummies instead of playing real matches. There’d be nothing to discuss really besides what’s already known. Hopefully the competitive scene takes off soon.

Until the game gets a competitive scene and online play picks up(more players, eventual netcode patch), no real point. Because of the mass influx of people new to KOF, the majority of XIII players are grinding it out in Practice/Trials. I’ve had the game since release and I’ve only played online maybe five times.

Then we should at least make a separate combo threads for each character.

Played this at a get together on Saturday, my immediate reaction, “KoF, why do you have to be so good and make all the fighters this console generation look so bad?”

I really hope this game takes off, its too much fun not to.

Yeah, KoF’s game mechanics are just great. I hope it takes off as well. I’m not sure if we’ll have much of a local scene for this game, but hopefully some small KoF tournaments can piggy-back off SF and MvC3. I’d be ok with that :stuck_out_tongue:

lol

Had a wierd bug in training mode. If you set your back/select button to “Restart” then go to the Start Menu and press Select while in the training mode menu, the background noise that usually comes with the stage (not the music) disappears. Nothing game breaking, just found it funny.
