KoF XIII General Discussion: Part II

Orochinagi has been around forever and is my go-to for KOF science. Try that in addition to Dreamcancel.

Any high level footage of the best ryo, beni and kyo players?

Well, I wouldn’t call it high level, but we’ve got pretty good Ryo footage and Benimaru footage from last week’s ranbats at Southtown Arcade. You should check out iplaywinner’s stream at Twitch.tv or just check their archives at www.iplaywinner.com. Check for matches featuring Fixel or Metaphysics. For Benimaru, look for CMD.Duc, and for Kyo, you might want to check out Demoninja’s fights. He’s got a pretty solid Kyo.

Just watched the Southtown Arcade iplaywinner tournament.

I have to say, I think this might be the best fighting game of this generation.
I really wanna get my hands on Kim and Yuri

Glad you enjoy it! Kim is a good character with a lot of fun interactions with meter. He’s a tough cookie to get in on if you’re good with flash kicks. Yuri has a great amount of tools to mix people up and do some good damage. The best part about this game is that everyone has 1,000 life. There’s no shenanigans where some people have low life and high damage. I feel this makes the game a little more balanced because of it.

Yo, you’re the Terry, K’, Maxima guy!

The health thing makes sense. So far it seems like most characters are viable.
I don’t think it’s gonna be like MvC2, where we’ll constantly see the same characters over, and over.

I’ve been thinking about King, Kim, Yuri as a team. Thanks for the info on Kim and Yuri btw

That’s surprising. I figured people wouldn’t remember me. Some people will tier whore, but if you’re a decent player and know what you’re doing, you can always turn around the tables or play your own way. King is a good zoning character as well as an aggro character. The issue with your team is more that you’ll need to spend a lot of time practicing your defensive options. Kim and King are not very linear characters and learning how to use your usually aggressive moves for defense will be harder. For one, Kim’s d~u+k is fast, but leaves you vulnerable to overheads and baiting. Aside from that, you don’t have many things to combo into.

Kim’s Hienzan (d~u+k) is his big combo starter and it’s really not safe. King relies on her df+D to get damage in, but the problem is you can’t cancel out of it if you did it by itself (Which changes in the console, but that’s not now). You have to link it into a combo to get it to work otherwise, by itself, it is extremely unsafe. Do not worry so much about the characters you pick. In time, you’ll really get them and understand how to exploit their strengths to take down your opponents.

Don’t forget you can empty cancel into her df.D (like s.B is the normal of choice) making her slide cancelable afterwards.

Will characters get indivdual threads here? or will that only be on DC? im still craving info on Liz, and if Mai can be less…one dimensional~

I don’t see why not, but SRK isn’t really a SNK site. They’d have to add threads and moderate that, but I don’t see them going that out of their way to add a subforum for character discussion.

Dunno. Personally I’m not fond of DC and I’d hope that SRK gets its own character forums or something. I’m taking a break from my videos and the wiki for now, but I’d say the wiki should be proficient enough for accumulating data and any other sort of specific discussion could happen in a general thread that could later be sorted out and placed on the wiki.

I don’t see why this section couldn’t get character subforums considering MK got one and IMO that game isn’t all that big on this site.

But BB and Tekken also didn’t get character subforums and I figure they were rather bigger here than MK.

If the demand is big enough…

I guess we could start making character threads, at least. It has yet to be seen whether this section would get enough attention to warrant entire subforums for them.

then lets do that then…im sure enough people will add info for their respected characters…i mean i know this section isnt dead…so its worth a try…

Sounds like a plan. What I propose is this: We make threads with basic information, sprites, and the like. Hopefully, the nice people at DC wouldn’t mind if we use the same format and resources they have listed at their site. Instead of creating subforums, we just make one thread that’s like a catalog. In it, you make a link so that people can easily access that information.

im sure they would be cool with it~ honestly people like KOF as it is but if people don’t get it out there…how else will it grow?

Im going to be Busy with College but i’ll let DC know whats up.

At the end of the day you guys are trying to help the community, so I don’t see nothing wrong with using the DC format as a reference as long as you guys credit the authors/contributors accordingly.

they had to have the 10peat achievement

yes!!! This increases chances that Botan, Shroom+Rimelo, Adelheid and Heidern might be secret playable unlockables (or secret DLC)
And it makes even more sense considering the special story paths designed.

in other news.** The King of Fighters 96 releases later today**!!! KOF fans, KOF96 fans, and people interested in playing one of the best and most inspirational fighting games ever made, KOF96 on PSN will be arcade perfect just like KOF94 and KOF95, with netcode perhaps as good or maybe better than KOF95!
(the only bad thing about the ports is that it would be nice if USA mode is uncensored, it’s a little miffed up switching to JPN region mode to preserve the blood effects and missing animations.

but hey, better JPN than censored. besides, the only thing really missing out from the USA mode setting is being able to read the win quotes and story text, but for competitive gaming instead of reading, JPN is still the best mode to choose unless KOF96 finally makes USA mode uncensored. It’s just a tidbit I had with mode difference, but still grateful they included at least JPN mode uncensored, therefore getting the complete arcade experience!)

Also Neo Geo Station has some of the best screen options I ever seen, besides full instruction manual with great art, zoom option, music player, and other stuff!
