Is Duo Lon still the worst character in the game?

So what is SNKP up to now after Climax? Are they planning on updating the console versions with the Climax changesā¦improving that netcode? getting some lobbies going for the online or something? I donāt wanna say they should pull a Capcom, but with the healthy reception from Evo, Iād like to see XIII get some kinda update to extend itās lifespan for those without a local scene.

LOL, I want to know who. Going into EVO MADKof almost anyone who kept up with his youtube channel KNEW he had the best duo lon. He makes the character good. Donāt get me wrong the game is really balanced but Duo Lon is NOT near the top. Mexico or ANYONE has never played a Duo Lon played at a high(or possibly the highest) level like that. Not to mention the way that MADKof does his teleport after rekka(delay then teleport) makes it unpunishable unless you are gonna use meter or have a command grab character, and you still have to time the command grab correctly. People wondered why Bala and Romance was not punishing him when he teleported but the thing is they could not because even if they did it would not be a decent punish outside of Benimaruās command grab. You donāt want to blow 2 bars of meter to punish teleport to only get a 250 damage punish or less.They also tried grabbing it since grabs come out in 1 frame on this game and all they got were far standing Cās and Dās. I still dont think Duo is top, Iāll say heās still low but he has moved up a bit.
Good points, I usually just view tiers as a popularity contest until people actually have statistical matchups, but thatās just me.
Tiers have some merit. But itās pretty obvious that Mad_KoFās Duo was on a different level. That doesnāt mean heās making any groundbreaking discoveries to make him move up tierwise. He had to do a shit ton of hit and run with him just to put up an effort. Duoās good at that, but considering the rest of the cast can hurt by simply getting a hit confirm, heās still lacking.
His Duo did good at full screen poking, getting the hit confirm into decent rekka damage, and running away wasting timing waiting for Bala to make the fuck up. Pretty much how you want to play him at least.
Well Mad_KoF was doing pretty mediocre duolon combos, he gets good damage for 1 bar if you use EX rekka.
I think it is true for most games where a top player makes a mediocre-lower character godlike that there is an immediate overreaction⦠by that I mean everyone credits the character and not the player. I think Duo isnāt as bad as people initially thought but I still feel he is somewhat lower in the cast⦠Mad_KOF is just insane.
As for the debate on the game KOF13 is still my favorite fighter to date. Granted I am an 09er so my opinion holds little merit. I can see why the old school players can get annoyed by the 13 engine after grinding out so many different KOF games over the year. It is true that this game really does reward combos a lot more than the older ones. I have played a little 2002 UM lately and that game is for sure more built around fundamentals. I still think fundies in 13 play a huge part though⦠sure with HD you are one clean confirm away but what if you canāt even land it? It also isnāt like the game is 3 touches = win.
I think games these days in the āstream eraā need that excitement where the guy with 90% is still one touch away from the guy with 10% to really flourish.
I agree that this effect is very common after a tournament, but i still dont see what makes duo lon mediocre. To me he is one of the best point character in the game, and i have felt that way for quite some time. I mean take a look at some of his stuff:
Pro:
*Best cr. light in the game hands down. cr.lp has insane reach combined with +4 on block. In a game where most cr.lights are +0 to +2, this is a big deal
*Great cr.hp anti air. Fast and has superb vertical reach, def one of the better ones in the game. Combine that with the fact that rekka has upperbody invul (and all hits connect as an AA) his AA game is pretty strong.
*Weird jump-arc combined with great jumpins makes him extremly hard to antiair, and combined with a +4 cr lp = very strong pressure.
*Semi abusable special. Many in the cast has no answer to rekka->teleport, and some who do is only on hp teleport or cost 2 bars.
*Great one bar damage. The ex rekka into free cacel fireball boosts his 1 bar damage above average.
*f+lp, f+lk, super gives him fullscreen pressure.
*Very strong okizeme. Teleports, meaty fireballs, CD xup etc.
Cons:
*Weak HD combos. (Not a huge factor since hes usually first)

His cons are that he really has no way of getting pressure off of him and he struggles against characters with fireballs. Andy, Kyo, Takuma, Karate, EX Iori, Iori, Yuri, King, and Beni. Yeah his Cr. C is good in comparison to most but alot of good jump ins beat it that characters are gonna try and pressure with, his damage is slightly below everyone, his Okizeme is actually kind of weak unless he spends meter.
He has some matchups where he does well, most okay, and everything else is a major headache for him.
Duo does well against characterās with fireballs lol. He does not do well against characters that can outpoke him long range. Example being Ralf, if Ralf does s.D and trades with Duoās letās say 6A, Ralf will win the war. He can also become predictable. He also takes a lot more work to win with because of damage. As for HK teleport it is punishable by a good bit of the cast. Terry can Buster Wolf teleport. Ralf can run gatlin and punish. Iori can maiden masher. Ryo can LK Hien Shipuu Kyaku. Benimaru can command grab him. Clark can grab him. Kyo can hcb+k it or ex hcb+k to punish OR EX Orochinagi. Kim can 66A or ex Hagetsuzan or EX Super it. Robert can command grab or EX Super it. Daimon can grab or ground pound. Shen can super it or command grab. Yuri can punish with super or ex slaps. As you see there are a lot of punishes for it. However, by instinct most kof players do C or D because its the option to do in a lot of close situations. All the punishes I listed are really good. Again like I said though, there is no Duo Lon who is better or even close to MADKofās Duo Lon except for maybe Verna. And like Metaphysics said, MADKof is a genius because he made holes in his game as bait so Bala can fall for them. Who the hell does that? lol. Also, I already knew people would be like DERP DUO LON BEST CHARACTER IN GAME MADKOF WON EVO WITH HIM. However, in this game the player makes the character and it has shown in tourneys. Stop jumping to conclusions and play your character. Yeah, we say there are top tiers in this game BUT the worst matchup in the game is 6-4 and no less. So even against top tiers, any character has a 40% or higher chance of beating the opponentās Benimaru/Kyo/Mr Karate at any given point.
No one noticed that MADKOF deliberately delayed his rekkas and teleports to throw off punishes? Sometimes he would end with very unsafe rekkas, but since everyone was waiting for the teleport, they went unpunished!

Duo still sucks, comparatively, if you ask me.
MADKOF had an evolved gameplan, due to his intimate knowledge of the specific ways in which Duo Lon sucks. He got away with a ton of shit, because his game accounted for it. That doesnāt make Duo any better⦠thatās the player.
I also noticed that in the matches MADKOF played against other Koreans, he tended to swap Duo Lon out. The fact that he was getting SO much mileage out of Duo Lon, but chose to remove him, pretty much any time he was going up against a player that was actually familiar with his style, says a lot.
Duo Lon has shitty defense, does weak damage, and has tons of holes in his game. I donāt think his mix-up game is all that great, but I will say that MADKOF showed me that Duo has much greater potential for controlling space than I had previously understood.
I still think Duo Lon dies to familiarity though. He obviously shines against unfamiliar opponents⦠he gets more of a boost than most characters do, from opposing ignorance⦠but I really think that goes away QUICKLY.
Still⦠Duo seems to be better than I thought he was⦠but itās a large stretch to just throw him into the upper rankings now, even with an Evo under the belt. This was just the first Evoā¦

Clarkās hop D doesnāt hit low however it seems like you if you hit D early you can block any crouching attack (like cr.B) and it seems like you can do either SAB when you land.
Itās difficult to test this out.
Thereās no tripguard in the game but you can get away with that shit because of online tactics. Old nemesis in the 02 room, Hispanics love it.
No, I tested it offline and I set the dummy to mash cr.B and sometimes I could block and sometimes I couldnāt. I guess timing is everything?
