KOF XII - Kyo Kusanagi thread

I have to agree Ex Kyo from XI was fun I did love to juggle with him and and end combos with HCB C (DM)

Let’s see, they stripped away his rekka’s and juggle potential and stripped him down to only a projectile and AA…if that doesn’t sound like a shoto I don’t know what does. He was a entertaining character to both wath and play, I loved using him over the typical shoto characters because he had some actual variation and"flash"to his moves…why demote him into another generic shoto that is completly devoide of orginality or innovation. They should have just given him a fucking red handband while they are at it…and maybe a hurrican kick for good measure.

Just say you don’t like the reverted Kyo, it’s not that big of a deal. Play someone else, or don’t play the game.

I’m not making a big deal of it, I will still play him because he has been my main ever since I started playing KOF back in KOF 99. I just think SNK considerably fucked him over for no reason but whatever I will still use him, and u never know SNK might release a DLC Ex Kyo or something.

When I first saw that HCB + C move, I thought that was so incredibly stylish. And yeah, his juggles where pretty interesting. And the cancel’d 'Gami punches from one to the other where a source of fun.

But 95 Kyo’s rushing “grab”, plus his Multiple kick special moves, easily keep him from feeling like a “generic Shoto”, I’d say. His kicks seem to serve the same purpose of juggling and set-up as some of his punches, especially in CC time.

Maybe Duo Lon’s Rekka can fill some of the void from the converted Kyo? Just a thought.

Given the already strong juggle potential in XI Kyo, I have to wonder how he’d work in XII. I’d imagine he’d end up having one of the most overly-powerful CC-started combos in the game, if he retained similiar move properties. Or maybe they’d shorten his chains, and make them more like Jam’s in GG (as in, 3 moves that can loop in any order, but can’t normally be chained off of themself)

Personally, as long as it takes SNKP to make characters, I wonder if we’re more likely to see more modern Kyo’s playstyle return as an EX character, or maybe as a whole 'nother character? Imagine if they made Shingo fight like XI Kyo…

Seems like Kyo still has some decent juggles to me.

In terms of CC juggles I’d say he’s second and Terry seems to have the strongest

I’ll miss that,but I was actually thinking of maining Duo in his stead to fill the gap. I will need some extensive play time with Kyo naturally to make a more informed assesment…but in my short time in the arcade just felt really gross when I used him. I hope a EX Kyo does come back…but man it would be fucking great if Shingo inheritted NGBC Kyo’s style lol.

Okay first of all, stop acting like it’s this big travesty that a version of Kyo exists where he has a fireball in place of his ~-~Wicked Chew~-~. This was how Kyo played in the very first KOF, and ever since 97 there has usually been an alternate version of Kyo (and that Kusanagi clone shit or whatever that is) available for selection. If you didn’t like fireball Kyo that’s fine, but he’s always been around so don’t act like this is some radical change that completely blindsided you. If you were an Iori fanboy complaining about how he doesn’t have flames any more I could actually understand that, as XII Iori has different moves that he’s never had in KOF before. Kyo is nothing new.

Secondly, you’re saying that he was “stripped down” to having a projectile and AA… um, no, he has other moves. He’s still got the qcf+K which sets up juggles. He’s still got the hcb+K running grab thing, which hasn’t been a move people use that much but it is definitely useful in this game because if you land a far standing D stagger counterhit, you can combo the running grab while they’re in the stagger animation. He still has the rdp+K move which has always primarily been used for juggles, but the B version recovers incredibly fast so even if it whiffs you often recover in time and can start another poke string, or maybe throw. He has three other moves besides fireball/DP. By XII standards, that’s a fairly good sized movelist. In terms of moves he did not get fucked over anywhere near as hard as some characters did (cough cough clark cough)

Finally, you’re lamenting the loss of long crazy juggle combos that EX Kyo had in XI. That’s too bad, but nobody’s juggle combos are out of control like that in XII. However, everyone has the ability to juggle stuff off CD’s now which gives most everyone a chance to do some juggles instead of only some lucky characters having moves that launch the opponent. And furthermore, you act as if Kyo doesn’t have juggles any more, which couldn’t be further from the truth! Even without a CD you can juggle something for free after qcf+D. Hell I think you can do qcf+D, rdp+B, dp+A or something. Might not be as kuhraaazzzzyyy enough of a juggle for your tastes, but Kyo can still do some pretty decent stuff if you have a fascination with juggles.

(and furthermore, if you really like just going wild with juggle combos, just land a Critical Counter and you can pretty much freestyle a bunch of stuff and have it all juggle! It doesn’t even have to be Kyo! It’s fun!)

I personally don’t see the big deal about losing the wicked chew moves. I mean I was unhappy about at first but only cause"BAAWWW I HAVE TO RELEARN TO PLAY MY CHARACTER BAAWWW" Then I realized that I really don’t cause '95 style Kyo plays alot like '98 style Kyo anyways. Rushdown, cross ups such the like. Plus everybody knows Kyo players do it for the Orochinagi. Who doesn’t want to have a flaming pimp smack SDM?

my kyo bnb in xi… still the most fun kyo i ever played in a kof. xii might be the only kyo to rival his bad assnes from xi, even though plays old school style.

I don’t wanna seem like a asshole but old school kyo was so dynamic and exciting to play and watch compared to his new XII shoto self. NGBC Kyo or Ex Kyo was the way to go u know…but hey if that’s the only shitty thing about KOF this time around I suppose it’s okay. Maybe they will release a patch to fix Kyo or something,…there is always hope right.

Evo I should let you know that pretty much everyone who played the game agreed that Kyo is pretty damn good in XII. I say you give him a shot when the game comes out.

I played him for about 2 matches in the arcade, and I don’t know how to play as him without his rekka’s…it just feels so weird and alien u know. Like something is missing or a incomplete piece of the puzzle…it’s like thor without his hammer or something.
