KOF Orochi Saga Collection - US Version

thanks for the help

what unlockables are in 98? thanks for the help

I encountered loading times before battles in KOF 98, I haven’t tried the other games on the compilation so I can’t say yet.

I just got my copy from surprisingly Gamestop today. They had the PS2 and PSP versions actually ready for purchase for once. The interface looks great but the only major(minor) compliants would be the in-between load times (the skipping thing but that’s irrelevant), whatever controller the person is using (well, that’s all about preference there so to each their own), and that’s about it for now. The Challenge mode kinda came as a surprise. Here’s where you’ll get your unlockables from (AST, pics, extra characters). I guess that’s one of the finishing touches they added in to hold us over until UM is ready next year (nice job by the way SNK USA). But for the most part the game is ported pretty well and in a way you kinda just have to think of it as a “Really Well done Saturn port”. I just gotta get used to the inputs from my stick/controller more and I’ll be right at home.

Can you play with arranged music? That’s a deal-breaker for me, seriously.

Anything really special (extra characters, stages) or is this just bare-bones aside from the bgm?

According to some preliminary reports, you can unlock the arranged music but ONLY for sound test purposes, not for use in actual combat. :amazed:

And KOF '98 supposedly has some announcer quirps.

I’ve gotten a few “Read- Perfect!” from the announcer.

I bought the japanese version of the collection 2 years ago. Even though it wasn’t perfect and it was a bare bones port, it was a blast to play. Not worth buying if you already got the ROMs with online play for free

The Nests collection was arcade perfect though, if you are talking about the neo versions. The standard versions of that collection were based on the DC version.

Damn…they don’t even make it so you can unlock Rugal/Goenitz/Orochi characters in 95-97 after beating the game or completing some mode without entering some goofy code every time you want to select them?

WTF? You could use them in the Jp version!

With this and the introduction of a practice mode, I’m getting the suspicion the US version was rebuilt from the ground up.

Playing the PSP version right now

They definitely aren’t arcade ports. but I can’t say there are any gameplay differences

Loading times are terrible though.

Will probably play on PS2 after work and see if that’s better

Edit: … There was actually some sound lag on hits and commands(Did heidern jump grab and heard corresponding noises a second later)

Yeah don’t waste your money for it on PSP, lol. Good thing someone bought this for me

It’s been confirmed, this is a new collection for the U.S developed from the ground up (by “Terminal Reality”), and not a port of the Japanese Orochi collection. I figured that including '94 & '98 was going to throw a wrench into this compilation, seeing as they weren’t included in the original Japanese one and were not available as separate ports (only as extras in Re-Bout & Ultimate Match respectively), so these guys couldn’t have just simply retrofitted them into the existing collection. Beware, this might be the same fate that SSA shares if they indeed choose to include SSVS.

No friggin AST option…get that shit out of here.

Official SNKP page says no SSVS in SSA.

Thanks. Will just spend the $15 on the PS2.

So are there any changes to the individual games?

Like I’m fine with no AST option as long as the games themselves are near arcade perfect ports

No AST in game is brutal…

But, honestly, if I had to choose either '94+'98 or AST in game, I would choose '94+'98.

I’m amazed at how much extra effort SNK puts into random things like this. All they had to do was port the ready made Japanese version, which apparently has English tucked away inside it already. Why rebuild this from the ground up?

fuckin sucks

NO AST

I can’t believe it

forget this game then

Not to mention, including boring old vanilla '94, which was already (poorly) emulated in SNK Arcade Classics Volume 1 just months ago, seals the deal on '94 Re-Bout ever coming to these shores. Couldn’t they have ported that or brought it out in some double pack with '98 UM or maybe even later on 2002 UM??? Damn.

I’m picking this up today for the ps2.

Was considering for psp for a while, but was suspicious about the loading times, considering how slow Metal Slug anthology took to load. Had a feeling KOF would be the same.

Eh, I like the OST better. At least it comes with 98, and that’s were it counts.
