I really like KOF, I want to play it. But there is just this big fucking wall stopping me from getting anywhere. Like, I’m Terry. I get a few hits in and then I lose. Then I beat my opponent next round. Then they picked Terry too, and I just get locked down with the same punch-powercharge-rising tackle combo over and over and over. Some chinese kid on GGPO beat my whole team doing that. It’s one of those “I WAS BLOCKING!” type situations. It doesn’t feel responsive enough.
I kinda get how combos work in that game, but I don’t know how to approach. Plus randoms jabs seem to stop anything in that game. :shake: it’s so frustrating I don’t know how I am supposed to improve. I can only beat the computer when I get really lucky.
Try Ryo95… his short dragon is deadly. His standing CD is really good to get people off you also, the hit box of that move stays out for a long time and it’s really meaty with a lot of priority. Jumping D ducking C into hurricane is an easy jump in combo. People like to roll through super fireballs, chuck a slow one out once in a while and they will likely eat it.
Did he change a lot in UM98? Lucky is a bad character to try to learn the game IMO.
Part 1 of the tutorial is up:
Lucky or Ryo? Ryo on both versions has more recovery on dp+A, which kinda sucks. The C version of the dp always knocks down, though. 95 Ryo has a new animation for his flying kick, but it doesn’t really change how it’s used (still works in combos, etc.).
Lucky got a actual decent bnb with cr.lights into dp+D, which always connects and slams them for pretty nice wakeups. His qcfx2+C super moves further forward so it’ll always always connect off close C f+B. The qcfx2+K super as changed into an instant command grab, and qcb+K has less recovery. But yea, I agree in either case that Lucky is not too good to learn the game with.
Fantastic video! I did not know about hyper hops.
That was a great tutorial Dandy, can’t wait for part 2.
Hey Dandy J: So is regular Ryo better than the EX version than him? Every Ryo match always has regular Ryo, what makes him the clear superior?
-
That tutorial was quite resourceful.
-
btw, Chizuru is now low tier? or is that just for UM?
-
how much block power/invisibility does Ryo’s hcb+HP uppercut have? is it similar to Crackshoot?
Ryo’s QCB + P has some autoguard at the beginning, although the start-up time kinda hurts it.
Chizuru is one of the top in 98, and is still strong in UM, just a bit nerfed on her down C and clones super. Her overhead is actually useful now, it sets up for hcb+A~A/C~C crossup game.
Chizuru is great, i love the way Dakou use it… xD
the most annoying part of chizuru is if you manage to counter attack one of her image moves it locks the screen up from moving until she does another one.
I think that’s how it works. It happens every once in a while and I hate it every time.
Hi everyone, im so happy to see people into KOF 98, lol i thought i was the only one…back in bangladesh my brothers and i used to play a while back but then i couldnt really manage to play KOF 98 here in canada, anyone know where people still play this game…I would love to go back to this game again…recently i saw many vids on youtube by two players called Dakou and Xiaohai…that was all the motivation i needed lol…i was wondering if you guys can please tell me some sites where i can see more vids of like the professionals playing KOF98,

Was there ever a part 2 of the KoF tutorial?
-
what’s a good stun-heavy team?
i guess dandy decided not to seeing as how tame xii was. maybe he will for xiii though.
anyways:
kyo stuns in 2 bnbs and a poke (or just 2 bnbs with a jumpin)
iori stuns in 2 bnbs and about 2 lights
chizuru stuns in about 2 and a half bnbs
