If Kyo can do backdash~d+C then I’d bet everyone else who has their command air normals can do it too. Athena doesn’t have her old one anymore as far as I know. Robert has that new B+D cross up that’s like Iori’s, maybe he can do it now.

Yeah, Athena couldn’t do it in XII but it seemed as if everyone had a uniform backdash that one could manipulate in speed, distance, and recovery. It seems as if they took out that sort of back dash mechanic in the XIII vids available. Can’t wait to troll with Iori’s backdash~b+B.

Wasn’t Takuma in the 360 game data for KOF XII?

That would strongly imply that he’s the one, wouldnt it…

Yeah, it makes sense since I’d doubt they’d scrap an almost complete character and start from scratch again. So it’d be Ryo, Robert, and Takuma for the AOF Team. Hwa Jai makes sense for Kim’s team since both Hwa and Raiden were villains that became reformed later in the Garou series. Seems as if Kim is taking on new people to go through his rehabilitation program. Then that leaves Vice for Iori’s team as she as well as planned for XII. So that only leaves the new team to be left for speculation. I’m strongly believing that it’s going to be the Flying Brigands team with Ran/Luan as leader. Sai and Chat are supposedly missing like Lin was so possible characters that could fit in that team are Xiao Lon and that unused dark character in the KOF Character Encyclopedia; but, I doubt they’d leave character designs such as “Billy” just floating around in limbo. There’s another possibility that more characters could be added to the console version so Billy might not see the light of day for the arcade release. I don’t see how others could possibly think characters other than Takuma, Hwa Jai, and Vice would fill in those single spots in the established teams; it’s somewhat delusional.

I don’t play much Takuma, but Mr. Karate at least in SvC’s Hien Shippu launches on hit and you can follow-up so it makes sense to make it chargeable. Also the HK version is safe to an extent since it goes past the enemy; Ryo’s is usually unsafe no matter what strength you use it at. Robert and Takuma also have fullscreen fireballs (although some can duck them mind you).

There’s some other stuff, but overall I think Alexander brought up a valid point in that while Ryo is different is several ways, he is somewhat redundant in a sense as well.

Takuma IS the real Mr. Karate, he doesn’t need the Tengu mask to prove it. The Tengu mask just represented the period of time when he had to take on that persona to hide his identiy and later on for comedic purposes and to usually to scare his disciples into action. he could be as powerful as Mr. Karate from SVC at anytime he wants if he chose to (though SVC never happened of corce).

And I still say that’s like saying Ken is redundant after you play as Ryu or old school Iori is redundant after playing as Kyo. Yea they are alot alike but they still all have their differences.

I have times where I prefer either of the 3; Robert is always my favorite, But I love it when Takuma pretty much throws Ki-use to the four winds, and beats up people with the pure force of his strikes. It seems much more “masterful” to me.

Ryo and Ryu have always been similiar to me, in that they excel at being jack-of-all-trades characters. They can beat you and fundamentals. They don’t have glaring strengths, per say, but they are pretty good at just about any situation.

Marco/Kushnood is my preference of all Kyokugen warriors, because I think he is a nice mix that brings a bit of all their traits into one character. So I’d prefer him over Takuma, but I’d be o-k with any!

I’m aware of that, but it would probably bother less if Takuma actually played like Mr. Karate. I really don’t like the hand to hand style and the inputs most of the Takuma’s get.

Mr. Karate’s zoning, combos off Hien Shippu, uppercut, command grab, yet still retaining a counter move give him a nice shoto style I have yet to seen I could like in any incarnations of Robert, Ryo or regular Takuma. The fact that Ryo is called Mr. Karate in NGBC/Garou WA while still just being same old Ryo (didn’t even inherent the old one’s moves) really irritates as well.

As a minor point, the Tengu mask just makes Takuma’s design more interesting to me as well.

His parry-like command moves in XII where unique in that he could pretty much move through anything thrown at him. Parry the fireballs, parry a combo, parry a CD attack, high or low hits, it you could react properly, it made it so his ability to absorb and retaliate was quite strong.

Unlike Robert or Takuma, he doesn’t require charging on his Hien Shippu Kyaku. This makes it a bit easier for him to react with it, while maintaining momentum.

Over the years, he’s also been one of the only characters with a “utility” super, that left the opponent stunned/dizzy, rather than doing loads of damage, allowing for the follow-ups of your choice. The times I’ve preferred him, are the games where he has strong defensive abilities, such as when he has auto-block on the start up of his moves. To me, this is when he is at his strongest, most original, and most fun!

Speaking of Ryo…any word of him possibly getting the Raijin Ken back? Or maybe something from XI or NGBC?

It’s things like people thinking Yamazaki could fill in Iori Team, “insert Fatal Fury character” for Kim’s, or Butt filling in the AOF team when we already have the huge hints with the KOFXII junk data; now that’s, keyword: somewhat, delusional. Anyone’s opinion about the last team is as fair as anyone else’s. Sorry for the lack of clarity.
