2001 was really exciting! well story and gameplay wise, and the 1-4 team system (fighter or striker) was interesting. Plus it had the biggest roster for its time. The only bad thing was the portrait art for most of them (and Athena’s hair was waaay too short). It also has two of the most lovable final bosses ever!!! Also one of the best KOF opening intros. Definitely a league beyond 99 and 2000.

If they released a XIV that just brought back those who are missing from the Ash saga as the focus of it, in like, a years time from XIII, it wouldn’t be too satisfying. It’d be another “well, if XIV was just a more complete XIII, why’d we need this one?”
But if XIV really works as a true sequel, ready to start up the next saga, released in a few years… of course they could bring back the few missing from Ash Saga, but they could also bring a considerable amount more content, and make a true continuation.
I wouldn’t mind seeing a yearly update to XIII that adds a few characters and stages. That’s all things like 97 to 98 where, anywho. But I think SNKP should learn to save new numbered games for substantial changes, in this modern era of games. A tease of returning characters between big releases, with the true sequels bringing new gameplay systems, new animations and moves for the old characters, and a bunch of new people to play, totally new stages, new music, single player and multiplayer modes, etc.
Fighters can have a much longer life than 1 year, lets let the arcade and console releases get their moneys worth! It’d be nice to see SNKP be a trendsetter again…
Did you REAAAAAAALY just say all of that???

OH LAWRD!!!
That Shermie sprite is just awesome. I seen a few floating around, none with that level of detail and that captures the new sprite style so well. It’s about time we get some more Shermie.

Bigger as in her :r: + :lp: should have 1/4 screen range…
I always had my suspicions about you but this THIS confirms it.
April fools was over 2 months ago.
The fact that you completely oblivious to the flaws of a certain fighting game franchise we all love.
Nothings perfect. Ever.
I didn’t say it was flawless, but I certainly had more fun with it than 2003.

Imo 2000 is leagues better than 2001, shit just doesn’t feel right.

Maybe :r:+:lk: but… :wow: I’d rather avoid Queen’s Blade-level proportions…
Y’know, going back over the years, my opinions of KoFs have fluxuated. I couldn’t stand anything about 2003 when I first played it… and I hated 2001 compared to 2000. Going back to them years later, I can at least tolerate 2003… and 2001 does have a few more things I kinda like about it. The systems are pretty unique.
I might like it more than 2003 for the atrocity that is command-motions Heidern! 2001 and 2003 are probably the most throw-away KoFs for me (though I like Falcoons portrait art in 2003 quite a lot), and I’d rather play XII than either of them. THIS is why I don’t want yearly KoFs anymore, of course; I don’t want ANY that are released from this point on, to be totally outdone by next years model.
KOF had improved year by year (95 better than 94. 96 better than 95)
But ya I guess some people would whine about paying $60 for a new fighting game every year nowadays.
Maybe every 2 years? hmmm. KOF isn’t Final Fantasy. It shouldn’t take more than 2 years to update/make a new KOF from now on. I mean all it amounts to is a 10 minute arcade mode, and versus play.
If Smackdown vs Raw can get away with raking in cash every year, so could KOF.
(really liked the story editor in SvsR 2010. they could really go further with that.)

2001 will always be known as “that one WIERD kof”. Too much strange shit was happening there, from intros and winposes to double Zanretsukens.
nuuuu I mean yea of course they need at least a year to make sprites and test everything, but KOFXIII has proven it only takes a year for them to make a new KOF, even if it’s an update from the previous game’s work (like all KOFs have been)
But people criticize SNKP’s testers anyways, so what good is an extra year of testing if they are so presumably bad at testing the games anyway? Prey took 7 years to make and it really isn’t close to being one of the best shooters ever. More time doesn’t necessarily mean more quality. Also people must factor in that companies need to start making money from their work as soon as possible.
Otherwise, teams could just spend 10+ years before they release a new fighting game sequel.
I don’t see the problem.
I mean, I called out Affinity as a scrub, fangirl and troll months ago.
please stop while you can Finny.:shake:
EDIT: I do love the shermie/Krauser fansprites. though I do think Krauser could stand to be a tad bit taller.
