King of Chinatown Documentary - Justin Wong - Empire Arcadia

Actually the sound that Japanese people make is somewhere between an english L and R, it’s kind of like just a short rolled R, which doesn’t quite sound like either one. Depending on the person who’s listening, it can sound wrong in one direction or the other. Same for Koreans. Chinese people is a different story.

O RRY?

Having dated Koreans, I know you’re FOS, because I have heard L’s pronounced as R’s before.

I tell you what, find a K-fob. Write the word “splice” on paper, and ask them to say it aloud. Then you’ll know how wrong you actually are.

Or even “play,” if you’re scared they’ll mispronounce splice because it’s not a common word.

missing person is right, for example in Japanese there technically isn’t an “L”, but they have a liquid “R” which is similar to an “L” sound making the pronunciation of “L” sound like an “R” when they speak English. or something like that I learned a little bit about it in linguistics.

I’m loving the idea of this doc so far. A character-driven doc is a wonderful idea. It reminds me a bit of Spellbound, which I and many others love, because it’s about people/a person working very hard and passionately for glory in a field that isn’t necessarily something many people dream of achieving high success in, yet succcess in the discipline does have it’s real rewards both personally and financially. Fighting gamers are already interested, but I think Justin’s road to the ultimate showdown with Daigo at EVO (could the result have been any more perfect for the doc?) will hook many people who aren’t already in the scene, just as Spellbound did.

As for the haters - first of all, why don’t you wait to see the finished product before hating? Secondly, have you guys ever worked hard at a project this challenging? I went to film school one summer and decided it wasn’t for me becuase quite frankly it was too hard for me. The guy who makes films, comment away, but if you don’t, take the Rock’s advice and know your role. I have huge respect for anyone who completes a feature length film of ANY quality, and it looks like the quality of this will be quite high. I can’t wait.

Finally, who would have made a better choice for the subject? Valle is the only person even close IMO. Maybe gootecks because of what he is doing for the scene. But neither of them ended up making top eight at EVO, and whereas Justin fought Daigo to the last game in EPIC fashion. Whether anyone likes it or not, Wong is our leader in the good-natured war against the Japanese, and he’s also one of the few truly pro SF players in the world. They made the right choice in highlighting him.

Anyways, mad props for doing this and I can’t wait to see the finished product. Also great call on the theatre/fest route. If we want people to take us seriously we must take ourselves seriously, and I’m sure everyone will get a chance to see it eventually.

Son, Hawaii has SF4/TvC/T6 at like EVERY Arcade they own. It’s ridiculous.

Too bad it’s all money wasted on Laggy TVs and set-ups with broken Korean Crown Sticks/Buttons and a P360/Happ Stick/Button set-up. Shit blows. :frowning:

Documentary looks cool, but the Justin Wong chanting at the end is a really bad touch. The voice and awkward tempo of the shouting sets off an a non-serious mood.

Thank you for your comments. This last comment in particular is something that applies to anything you do in life. I believe this sums up the mentality of the subjects in my documentary, and even myself.

Don’t worry about the haters, they won’t be hating after they watch it. This is an unbiased movie.

Throw this in the documentary, imo.

hahaha thats funny because he does have a good pokerface. The only problem is it’s too shaky.

maybe we’ll include this:

I watch it and some one in the train station said that justin wong “pretty much is the best player in the world”…are you kidding me…Daigo is the man and I know that alot of people are going to bash me or hate what I’m about to say but justin isn’t even on the same league as Daigo…I mean Justin has use 3 different characters against Daigo and lost and I’ll be honest in the U.S. he’s the best but in the world there’s atleast 4 better players than him including my Favorite player Momochi…my opinion guys but the Daigo stuff is a fact and noone can argue that

Mmmm… The problem is that if one were to put Daigo in the pools at EVO 2009; As a fan, I believe he would be able to climb to the top. As a realist, even I don’t have that level of confidence in him.

In any case, I think the correct way to look at top level players is something more like this: Players find other players to be match ups they are either at an advantage or a disadvantage to. So to put it into perspective… If I’m picking a player to defeat the player someone else chose, and he chose Justin, I would counter-pick with Umehara.

You could even go as far as to say that the player’s execution is “frame data” taken to straight-up reality.

Read what you’re typing, listen to what they’re saying.

They’re not saying “Justin Wong is pretty much the best SF4 player in the world.”

Daigo obviously has credibility in many other games, but that can be argued with Justin as well. With more titles in his name, and more championships/tournaments on his belt.

Is he interviewed sometime in the doc?

yes of course

On August 17th A few seconds of our footage will be in the new Jinx commercial:
( http://www.jinx.com ) on G4TV

Someone needs to do a “AT WHAT LEVEL IS HE PLAYING AT” one.

If you happened to be watching G4 today you might have seen the jinx clothing commercial featuring Empire Arcadia. A small portion of our trailer was used in it. I’m sure you can still catch it. I’m not sure how long it will be airing, but it’s pretty epic so I assume it will be on for a while.

Here you go Calvin.

The question: Where are gamers now as a whole?

Better question: Where are they going?

Answer: I’m not standing around like most gamers waiting for a answer, I’m going out there with the Empire and making one.

Triforce is a beast narrator… it’s gotta be the accent “LOOK AT THE DAMAGE!”

also what was he trying to tell Justin at 0:38-0:43

Thats the exact first thing I thought when I heard Triforce. I wanna hear him in the next Street fighter game as an announcer doin it 3rd strike style.

anyone catch the jinx commercial?? what do you think about the clothes?
