“Killer Instinct” (Iron Galaxy, Microsoft Studios). “Killer Instinct: Season 2” begins Oct. 15, starting with new fighters TJ Combo and Maya, enhanced game modes and a completely revamped interface. The “Killer Instinct: Season 2” – Ultra Edition ($39.99) includes eight fighters with a new fighter added each month, select fighter costumes and accessory packs, and “Killer Instinct 2 Classic.” The “Killer Instinct: Season 2” - Combo Breaker Pack ($19.99) includes eight fighters starting with TJ Combo and Maya, and a new fighter added each month. Additional fighters for Season 2 can be purchased for $4.99 each and fans can get TJ Combo early by purchasing “Killer Instinct: Season 2” - Ultra Edition between Sept. 23 and Oct. 14.

Seriously, we get 2 characters in October then 1 a month until we have all 8? Yeah, I’m not impressed at all with this announcement. I’m not liking how they are rolling this out at all.

I hope they have a $15-$20 upgrade deal for people that already have the full roster and KI Classic from Season 1 . Expecting everyone to drop another $40 to get classic KI2 would be kinda unfair but… That being said I can see how they could justify the price. $80 total for classic KI 1&2 as well as the full 16 characters in the new KI. The argument can easily be made that if you don’t buy the classic games you’re only paying $40 for the full roster in KI 2013… That being said, I will be giving them another $40 if it comes down to it, KI2 is worth it.

Combo and Maya on release and a new character every 30 days, sounds good but 30 days to build a whole new character seems a bit unrealistic.

where’s ma fucking trailer? I lnow they have troubles and shit, but they have to show something other than tj, to get people hyped. This is really getting disappointing.

Kinda disappointed by the “one character a month” thing.

But if they need more time to do stuff right, then this is best.

I’d rather get what they have done sooner, than wait longer for the whole thing.

Still, puts a muzzle on hype quite a bit.

Knowing how that will work is that they already have the character basics down for each character but really not working on them until later. TJ is probably done and they are fine tuning Maya now and will continue to do so. They aren’t just working on 1 character per month I believe, that’s just not how software development works…they are definitely a month ahead at least and fine tuning each character for those months. That’s the most realistic thing.

Ok, summary:

Season 2 launches with 2 characters. One character a month thereafter.
$20 for all characters, $40 for KI2 Arcade (with online multiplayer) and 8 alternate costumes designed by Kevin Bayliss.

Mick Gordon is returning. Soundtrack (for both KI XB1 and Arcade KI) will be releasing September 23rd.

No trailer will be available at gamescom.

If they can get their development pipeline down. This is actually a decent model for a fighting game.

However, unlike a MOBA or racing game, there is a point when you have too many characters.

I’m also very disappointed we didn’t see maya.

I dunno, I was just expecting AT LEAST 6 chars at the launch of season 2. I understood why season 1 went the way it did - because MS made DH have the game “ready” at launch, so they gave us what they had. But now with season 2, I expected the full season to roll around at release. Well maybe not the full season, but way more than just 2 freaking characters, and then 1 a month until we have all 8. At that rate we won’t have all characters until April. I just don’t like this type of release system.

I agree with the sentiment.

But if 8 characters aren’t ready at launch… I’m not sure how you handle it any better than this.

Also, ig has only been on this 8 months.

Yeah, and as someone who has been a software developer professionally for 10 years (well 10 years next month), I realize there is a transition period and that these things take time. Me personally, I’d like to see a delay in the launch when more content is available. The issue that you can run into in this situation is potential balance issues. You will have 2 characters that are 100% finished with 6 characters still in development that are going to be evolving as they become finalized, which could mean changes, which could mean it would make the 2 finished characters have balance issues that weren’t initially there.

As much as I can’t wait to play all these new characters, I wish they would just delay it. It’s clearly not going to be ready by October if only 2 characters are going to be available.

I wasn’t expecting more than 4 characters for season 2. Still not surprised at only 2 being ready for launch. It took them a long time to get Combo to 80 percent completion. Plus each character has to have their own stage and music and all of the additional gameplay content.

I got no problem with one character a month. Thats waaaaaayyy better than waiting 4 and a half months for 2 characters like last year. If we get 6 characters in 6 months, thats a success in my eyes.

As pure beast mentioned, balance is a legitimate concern here.

The only way I can see to rectify it is with more frequent balance adjustments. But this creates almost as many problems as it solves.

At least we’ll have something to look forward to every month. Basically, September TJ Combo (most of us are gonna get the Ultra Edition), October Maya, so on and so forth. So it all starts next month people!

I prefer people playing and testing characters over a slow release balance wise. Definitely better than throwing 8 characters at us and only the 4 people care about get played. This forces people to develop strategies around a character for a while as they get spotlighted.

Plus if we’re truly getting early access with the ultra edition, thats like a large scale focus test essentially

Soundtrack is going to be just as awesome as the first yeeee

TJ Combos theme is as fresh as I was hoping so far. Game has a lot of rock and techno stuff, but was looking forward to a hip, funk type beat.

HEY!
And I’m not the only one.

But honestly, GamesCom is a big mainstream event and most EU fools still spend their money on CoD games etc, so yeah :frowning:

On a side note, I’m happy Mr. Gordon is officially on board again

Sarcasm.

I wanted to bait someone into mentioning luffy and EVO so I could make a James Chen joke.

Now we know why there was no announcement though… Only 2 characters to show.

only Beu that has some kind of scene in EU, is street fighter. everything else is even more niche.

I know
Sorry, I forgot to add a smiley, it may have come over quite serious and that wasn’t what I was gunning for.

Tbh, in terms of (fighting) games, my intrest is pretty low in remotely anything atm (maybe I’m finally growing up :stuck_out_tongue: )
KI season 2’s got some of my intrest, Im looking foward to what they will bring to the table during season 2
It will give me a reason again to boot up my Xbone… Haven’t played in ages lol
