Killer Instinct XB1: Season 2 hits October 15th. 20 dollars for Combo, 40 dollars for Ultra

You win the CHANCE at getting a free game from a list they give. Ryse is the only interesting game on the list.

Ah okay I had heard that you can pick from a bunch of 360 games and Ryse. I wanna get Ryse but only when I can get it for like $40 cause I hear it’s short. I hear it’s awesome though.

DevilJin did you end up getting Crimson Dragon? I never got it because of the reviews, but I am still somewhat interested and wouldn’t mind hearing your opinion on it if you did get it.

I bought ryse.

It’s solid but simple. It’s actually a good thing it doesn’t last longer. The 6 -7 scores are accurate.

It’s stunningly pretty. And that means something for brand new hardware.

Honestly I feel Crimson Dragon is a pretty cool game. Obviously the majority of my time has been spent with Killer Instinct so I’ve only played like one level of that game, but it’s pretty cool. Pretty much what a sequel to Panzer Dragoon could have been with more RPG elements and such. The presentation isn’t as good as it was in Orta and yeah the graphics in the stages so far weren’t mind blowing, but there’s a lot of stuff going on in each stage and like the variations in weapons. I haven’t read the reviews to see why they were bad, but for 20 bucks it won’t kill you to play it I say.

Filled out the long survey. Obviously I can’t tell what’s in there…NDA.

I don’t see how anyone that can like Panzer Dragoon can like Crimson. The level design and encounters are so lame compared to PD.

If not them, then who WOULD like it?

I was running a little thought experiment last night. Basically, I made a little mini matchup chart to see how the character rankings and spread turned out. The results were a bit interesting:

Saber, Jago, thunder
Glacius
Sadira
Orchid

Obviously, outside of Jago and thunder I don’t have a huge knowledge of other characters matchups, and the game is obviously new.

But I’m curious. How do you feel you characters matchups shake out at the moment. For discussion, here’s how I feel about Jago and thunder:

Jago vs:
Saber 4-6
Glacius 6-4
Thunder 5-5
Sadira 5-5
Orchid 6-4

Thunder vs:
Jago 5-5
Saber 4-6
Glacius 5-5
Sadira 6-4
Orchid 6-4

Well how many projectiles have their been in fighting games that were unblockable? I think you could parry the ‘knife throw’ in Bushido, but outside of that, I can’t really think of any - so unless - as you said, followed it closely (which I didn’t once I said I wasn’t getting it at launch heh see how that worked out), you wouldn’t know, and unless you specifically take Glacius into training, you wouldn;t know either.

Fought more glacius-es last night…last night was just Glacius and Saberwulf it seemed - but it didn’t feel like a bad match-up. My worst match-up was actually run-away Jago. Alot of it is just me struggling using the analog stick to do DPs, so countering shadow window kicks and jump aways hsa been difficult…I need my damn stick Gamestop. C.FP is great against jump-ins, but that’s it. so I can’t call that match-up at all.

I’m not sure about that 4-6 saber match-up, Thunder lacks a ‘gtfom’ move that’s good against his pressure - his normals are too slow to come out, and the headbutt (1) isn’t the end all be all and (2) is baitable and punishable. Once Saberwolf starts, I’m just not sure what Thunder can do to stop him.

  • :bluu:

It was 4-6… That means saberwolf’s advantage.

1st number is thunder.

Also, glacius shatter may be unblockable… But it’s still not a very good mixup. Don’t get too hung up on the word “unblockable”, look at what the move actually doeS. It reminds me a lot of Nu-13’s overhead and low hitting projectiles in BB. Really good until you get used to it, then pretty much useless.

I remember Alex Valle saying early on that he felt Sabrewulf had particularly good footsies against Jago. That was before the game came out, but yeah. Sabrewulf’s sheer speed with his dash, possibly projectile invincible run overhead and some other things, it sounds like it could be problematic for Jago. Which once he gets in and locks you out, he can do a lot of damage for not much effort. Especially if he activates instinct. Sabrewulf easily gets the award for most damage for least effort of any character in the game. You can see his hard doubles easily, but once you get locked out or telegraphed into counter breaker you’re taking all of those hard attacks for free.

Honestly I feel Sabrewulf has the best chance of taking the first major for the game. He just has what he needs in a combo heavy, footsie centric fighter.

This is what I’m feeling for Glacius so far. Very preliminary but yeah.

**vs. Sabrewulf 4.5/5.5. ** I would say a bit even or slightly in Glacius’ favor once instinct is up, but Sabrewulf has enough ways to get around the armor for it to not make a huge difference IMO. Glacius is just too slow to win this in the long run and Sabre definitely has normals that whiff under the ice lance. Don’t’ know enough about the match up to say that Sabre clearly wins, but I feel it will get to 4/6 or worse for Glacius. Especially once Sabre players start learning frame traps.

vs. Jago 5/5. Seems pretty even so far. Jago has to use shadow wind kick to get through shatter so you can throw these out in good spots when he’s low on meter to deter him invading you. Well placed LP hails can help you even if he does shadow wind kick. If it’s long range you can just outpoke it with ice lance or neutral jump over it. His forward walk speed is decent, but not as imposing as Sabre’s, Sadira’s or Orchid’s. c.MK ducks under ice lance so you have to make sure to cover your lances with hails a lot. Can’t really do wake up shenanigans with shatter too much because shadow wind kick will go through.

Luckily Glacius has some good things in this matchup including HP hail which hovers above Jago’s fireball and shadow shatter which can shut down regular wind kicks and stuff an attempt at an early fireball from Jago. Glacius definitely wins the far range game vs him so as long as you can land a combo or a throw no him often enough you can stay in a good position vs. him I feel.

vs. Thunder 6/4 (goes to about 5.5 or more in Thunder’s favor when in instinct). It’s obvious Glacius wins this match as long as Thunder doesn’t have instinct. Projectile invincible DP is good and the HP DP can stuff hail attempts from a decent range, but his walk speed and dash are just too slow regularly. His j.HP and some of ground normals can stuff shatters but that’s not going to do much damage or get you in a ton faster on its own.

Once Thunder gets into instinct though you don’t really have an advantage. Especially if he’s stocked on meters. Dash cancels into shadow triplax is pretty much going to go through anything Glacius tries. Being invincible for half the frames then cancellable into an armored move means you don’t have much room to do anything safely. Pretty much going to have to pray for a normal, throw or a chance to take a life bar off him during the instinct (or you lose your life bar) to cool down his instinct. The fact that he can use the dash during lifebar transitions means he can just get right back next to you by the ready signal.

**vs. Sadira 4/6. ** I just don’t see Glacius winning this in the long run. At best its even from far range and it only gets better for Sadira as she treads in. All of her air specials seem effectively safe to punishment on block or give her advantage even. HP hail and j.HK are effective neutrally vs. her, but don’t lead to damage. You really have to get aggressive with your shatters to make her fearful of staying on the ground. Without shatters there isn’t much for her to actually be afraid of because she otherwise stays out of range of all of Glacius’ damaging tools. If she has a life lead she can play runaway from Glacius and force him to run in. Her jump cancel block string/OS shenanigans when in instinct (that SabreSRK recently showed off) looks like GG’s for Glacius if he is in a corner.

Orchid 5/5. I would have said Glacius’ favor but seeing she has the best move in the game so far for dealing with his arguably most powerful tool other than hail (that needs to work in conjunction with hail to land damage) its feeling more towards even. LK slide is decent for maneuvering around hails and she already has seemingly the best walk speed in the game which alone is very scary for Glacius. You can easily react to the light beam start up from shatter and just LK air buster Glacius out of a shatter. Meaning you need hail coverage to really scare her with shatter and the trades will still give her momentum as she has much faster walk and dash speed than you.

Supposedly her frame trap game is weak so far which should keep Glacius comfortable she gets in, but this is early and that could all change.

**Vs. Glacius = the more patient Glacius wins.
**

Yooooo Shatter has a hitbox!? @_@ this is madness. Good find!!
Did you try hitting it with a shadow move that can combo afterwards?

I already knew it had a hittable box after watching the second KI Fridays video where I saw Thunder j.HK the hit box away. It’s just only now that I realized the hittable box is attached to Glacius himself. Essentially making it a high priority normal that is inactive against airborne opponents.

SabreSRK posted up infinite block string and supposed anti shadow counter OS tech with Sadira’s instinct.

Uh…what

An exaggeration. But if you get hit with shatter, it’s because you screwed up. You can always get away, and you always have plenty of time to react.

However, in the future I can see it being used to create jump traps. But those wouldn’t deal much damage in this game engine.

Looking forward to seeing matches this weekend. I need to study up on what I’m supposed to be doing. Still just tooling around in exhibition when I do actually hop online.

I like Sabrewulf just because, but fought a couple of mirrors last night and my opponents just kind of back up and do full screen runs, 2 different guys did the exact shit it was hilarious. Need to incorporate his instinct cancel -> stupid damage though, still getting confirms down and trying to figure out how to avoid being broken or fishing for lockouts.

@DevilJin 01

You mentioned frame traps several times in your analysis. AndI wanted to make a small rant-y comment.

Seriously, people need to learn frame traps and good ol’ fashioned offense. I’ve never seen a player base so whiny about reversal (punishable) and throws than this one (not you guys). And those throws and reversals aren’t even that good but the standards of lots of games.

Actually, if anyone wants to add me and sort of deal with the horrid invite system shoot me an invite sometime: Phreakazoid28

I’d like to play some people who know what they’re doing so I can learn faster.

Oh yeah, I learned recently, the F’d up invite system is M$'s fault, not DH.

M$ said they were fixing the party system soon though, so that something I guess.
