I’m there right now and I don’t see anything. They have an article stating what we already knew. That it’s coming on the 31st.
I can’t tell what it is at the moment. I just saw the headline.

Well I read it. IGN is the first place that will have the video, along with other things going down around KI.
3 PM EST on Halloween.
Fgured it would be Halloween. Orchid in her new outfit and Spinal making a spook for Halloween.

Wait a second…wouldn’t it make sense for them to reveal both of the last two characters? Look, game comes out Nov 22nd. We’re supposed to know all the characters in season 1 by then. October 31st is the last day in October, that would mean they would have to “speed up” relative to their other reveals since those characters aren’t really “ready”. You can’t wait too late because people would want to know ahead of time to make an informed decision. If they do reveal Spinal only, I would say, they would reveal Fulgore in 2 weeks after. To me, it just doesn’t make sense time wise.
@zedox I think they its either they really were struggling to get these characters 100 percent to reveal, or more likely they’ve purposely held the reveal of these characters to build up hype. If they blew all of their load on a 20 dollar 8 character game, hype would die a bit IMO. They’re going to make sure they can spread these guys out till right before launch. They can get away with it IMO since the game is one ever evolving ecosystem.
It doesn’t surprise me that the reveal date is Halloween either. That’s a big flashing sign for “were going to tease our most halloween looking character on this date”.
Remember, they also have to reveal the Live offer exclusive Shadow Jago so its really in the air what they’re gonna do.

True true. I’m not caring for the next reveal that much since I wouldn’t be playing with them until January and March. I’m ready to see Orchid gameplay though.
They also promised to reveal a glimpse of story mode, character customization, online, and Shadow Jago…
Along with the other good points made, I think Orchid is going to have more people jump on the KI train than anyone else. Sure, Cinder and Fulgore (even Spinal and T.J. Combo) would help, but making sure Orchid is balanced and true to the “feel” that fans want from her…that’s gotta be DH’s focus right now. That’s what’s gonna bring in a LOT of attention. Just look how many people are pining for Orchid gameplay!
Methinks we have a LOT of Orchid fights to look forward to…learn her well to fight her well!
Yeah Orchid is going to be the Ken to Jago’s Ryu on launch. Then the other characters will get played sporadically in the middle. I wouldn’t be surprised if Orchid is the most purchased singular character.
I think that’s exactly right. But, the cool thing about the way KI is being distributed, perhaps many will just go down nostalgia lane and grab a char, or simply use the free flavor of the month. Because they get full access to the online portion of the game, they’ll get to see some great fights, and perchance see a character that makes them think, “wow…that is SO my style! I’ve gotta get him/her/it!” All of the sudden, a player that was on the fence is suddenly becoming more engaged and putting more money in it; even telling friends/spreading the word about the game.
Should this happen many times over, we could see a HUGE impact and influx into this game for the simple reason that everyone has access to KI, and it’s looking great, fun, deep, and accessible so far! Much like 1 vs 100 on XBLA was sprouting in popularity like a wildfire (so much so that it got…cancelled? strange, MS…), the fact that everyone can play it may turn out to be a wiser decision than many first presumed.
This is something I’ve noticed microsoft doing with alot of their franchises. They are trying to redefine what a game is, and obsolete the traditional $60 box. Look at alot of their major releases:
-KI - Seasonal
-Fable - Seasonal
-Titan Fall - Persistant
- Destiny - Persistant
- D4 - Seasonal
They are basically saying that the idea that you buy a $60 box and that’s the game… is over. These games are more like a TV series, Every year you get the new version. Given the success of annual titles like CoD and AssCreed, plus the seasonal XBL and Steam affairs… the industry is already headed that way. This especially makes sense given their original disc-free plan.
For a fighting game in particular, it makes even more sense. There are a few people who say that it would be better if they just left KI in the oven for a while and released it with say 16 characters and a complete story mode. While more is better… what is the difference between this model and the other. The only real difference is in the latter model I don’t get to play KI for another year.
The reason this works so well for a fighting games is that the characters… are the game. Unlike other games which require lots of pieces working together, or well paced single player content. A fighting game is really all about the character (once the initial systems are in place), so releasing the characters in a seasonal format doesn’t really hurt the development or quality of the product as much.
I’d bet the next Halo and Gears follow a more persistent/seasonal format.
@FlyingVe true words. I already saw where games could go with Skullgirls and most of the other games I was playing other than Marvel 3 were digital any ways. Especially since fighting games are the characters and the fighting rules and systems they work within, this is perfect.
The power of Manuals in Killer Instinct…
Something Max didn’t mention in the vid.
But this demonstrates one of the key differences between Auto’s and Manuals. The Manuals are hard to break… but lead to less damage. That’s a part of the reason the combo doesn’t do huge damage.
Somebody show that video to James Chen so he can sit down already.
It is a part I agree, I don’t think it’s the main reason the combo didn’t do very huge damage. We know that using manuals may lead to less damage (or in some cases slightly more) but from what we’ve seen so far it’s usually not that large an amount of difference, I think the main reason it doesn’t do that much damage is because he chose to cash out super early after resetting the KV meter with instinct mode and go for unbreakable juggle damage rather than risk going for another ground combo which would’ve done a lot more damage but carries the risk of getting broken.
This is just me speculating though perhaps manuals affect overall damage more than I think.
