I just found out that a firmware update for the PS3 will allow you to use PS1 controllers with any USB adapter on the system. INFO So what that means is that now it’s pretty easy for me to use a PS3 to power a cab. Tekken DR anyone?

Just downloaded the firmware and Tekken DR. Bidding on a few PSX USB adapters. I’ll let you know how it goes.

would your cabinet’s monitor be able to run in 1080p and other high def resolutions? just wondering if it could handle it because t5dr on ps3 is 1080p native i think and it made me wonder if there would be any sort of lag due to the monitor not being able to run at such resolutions therefore possibly having to scale the picture some way causing some kind of processing lag. sorry if it’s a stupid question.

also you gotta be careful with what kind of usb converter you get since alot of them need to have the analog button activated from a dualshock controller to be able to move the direction inputs. without an analog button activated, only your buttons would work with certain converters used on ps3 games. the 1.7 update only applies to ps1/2 games and not ps3. i use an elecom 101 usb converter that already worked great out of the box with t5dr before the 1.7 update but i still have to enable the analog button i modded into my stick to be able to move the direction inputs in vf5, the update didn’t do anything for it.

you’re probably better off waiting for these since a member of the srk named dreamtr who works for the company making them and has said that the converter works flawlessly on ps3 with zero lag with all playstation digital and dualshock pcb based controllers. http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product_id=802566

but good luck with your project. i’m really interested to see how ps3 games would run through an arcade monitor.
