Quit trying to call people out. dude. I’ve done 20 times more than you or anyone else in this city since I found out about competitive SF. I spent a lot of time and MONEY trying to get something popping around here and the kernel’s still cooking, ya dig?
Anyways, I’m tired of doing the work because it hasn’t paid off, yet. I’ll support as much as I can, but don’t think just because I’m tired of seeing the same three dudes every week in a “tournament,” doesn’t mean I don’t support the scene. I’m busy with other shit work and school and can’t be available all the time. Just concentrate on trying to get things going and it MAY happen. I hope it does, but don’t count on it because I’ve been down this road several times.
You gotta change your strat up a bit…
It’s like this:
A Smash Bros kid comes up to you and asks about Street Fighter and you say something like, “Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo is the only good game and you have to play it on an american cab or else you’re a ***, p.s. Smash Bros isn’t a fighting game, it’s a gay man buttfuck fest.” You think anyone’s gonna respond to that by throwing they’re Gamecube controller down and buying a ST dedicated cab for $1000 off Ebay?
If you want people to get into any sort of fighting game scene around here, you have to stop being so elitist. It turns people off. Deal with the fact that SF4 is the hot shit right now and it will be for a while. It’s an important tool that you’ll have to use to get any sort of scene going. You’re lucky. I didn’t have a brand new shiny SF game to lay a foundation for a local scene. It may not be your personal favorite, but it’s what you got when it comes to any sort of scene in Louisville. When you tell people that you’re in a tournament for a game you think sucks, they’re gonna think you’re fucking stupid. Oh, it’s cause you’re playing for money? What, 7, 8 bucks? LOL. Now it makes PERFECT sense.
Which brings me to my next point, check your reasons for wanting to get a strong scene together in the first place. Is it because 6you think it’s fun, or cause you want to have a bunch of chumps to collect winnings off of every week? If it’s for money, that shit is NEVER gonna happen here. NEVER. People are just looking for something fun to do in their free time, not new ways to lose an extra ten bones a week. Beer and weed already take enough.
Bravo! I salute you only because you know what the hell you’re talking about. If people had the same mentality as you then it wouldn’t be so hard to keep a scene alive in certain areas.
DJ: where do you come off thinking you have the right to say such stupid shit? Your attitude and the way you carry yourself will not help you reach your goal. Plus, your way of thinking is not the right way of thinking. It is your OPINION.
Yeah, I know I’m from Dayton and have nothing to do with your local scene, but let me offer you a word of advice: chill the fuck out.
From what I can gleam from being around you and seeing how you act around other people you have this mindset where its “me against the world!”. Such arrogance is lame and unbecoming. You are not impressing anyone, but you simply make a fool of yourself and you make a joke of the scene you are trying to build.
Get off your high horse. Why should it matter to anyone else if you approve of what they are playing should it be Smash or BlazBlue? You like to throw the words “scrub” and “newb” around too?
You’re an embarrassment to the scene. You think you’re part of something great, its sad.
Until you can stop being so close-minded then you will never be able to make the scene you so dearly want to be the king of.
Yeah you can’t create a scene by being elitist about old school games. No one likes to get stomped in a game because he’s playing against someone who’s played for 12 years and he’s only played the game for 12 minutes. I hated Super Turbo because I could never win a match (the only people who wanted to play it were experts). Then ST Remix came out and it was a level playing field. Now ST Remix is my favorite fighting game.
I might be moving to louisville to stay with my cousin very soon and I wanted to introduce myself now. I’m kris, I play sf4,sc4,t6 and I dabble in blazblue…barely. I see there’s some drama goin down already though. So uh…sup?
LOL. There’s no drama, for real. Everythings all good. I’m just trying to help a friend out and in text, it came out kinda harsh. I don’t even know what this other cat’s talkin bout.
Nice to meet you, Kris! We actually have a healthy scene here in Louisville. We try to get together at least once a week or so, but a lot of us have other shit to do, too.
My roommates would love to play you in SC4! When T6 comes out, I’m gonna start playing that, too. Of course we’re all into SF4, but everyone’s game of choice seems to be Marvel.
Cant wait for Tekken 6 to hit the shelfes. Love Tekken cuz it’s the closest to real fighting as it can get. Of course some moves are not real but its ok. My 2 best are heihachi mishima and paul phoenix. To this date, my fav fighting games are mortal kombat trilogy (ps1), STREET FIGHTER IV, TEKKEN 5 and i know TEKEN 6 is about to join that list. But i suck at MVC2 and HD remix.:cybot:
Hey guys, I was wondering what your thoughts are about the upcoming Super Street Fighter 4? Eight new (maybe more) characters, which of three are officially confirmed: DeeJay, T.Hawk, and a new badass girl Yuri will be in it. No one really knows the rest of the new characters. In this one however, capcom will tweak and re-balanced all the characters tiers because of outstanding complaints and demands. Many speculate that some hardcore SF4 players who took advantage of for example Sagat’s superior playing status would be less likely to play SSF4 because they relied on his superiority so much, that having him tweaked down is going to have them to work harder. I myself always enjoyed destroying a high tierd character, especially when the other player was more skilled than me. The ironic fact that they lost to someone who “SHOULD” have technically fallen to them makes me smile. But thats just one view. I AM going to purchase SSF4 not because the characters have been re balanced but because of more bonus stuff, such as characters, extra ultras for all characters, meaning 2 ultras per character (thats what I head), and additional costumes. Honestly though, they should have made it just like TEKKEN 5 and 6 customizing way, so you can dress and add accessories to your own player as you wish. I would LOVE to dress Akuma in a Hawaiian tropical shirt with pink shorts and of course his flip flops. And also give us more options to choosing our ultra moves, just the same way we choose our color and personal action. I would love to see Ken’s spinning kick ultra, the one from MVC 1, where he starts out with the spinning kick on the ground and takes em to the air and BOOW slams them down to the ground with the finishing heel kick from above. It would always be good to give people at least more options and choices instead of being narrowed down to only one Ultra and one extra costume. What do you think about SSF4? What would you like to see? Expressing our opinions such as we are now is the very thing that the developers look at and take in perspective when making a game. Lets have them something to read about.
Im sorry, i ment Ken’s spinning kick from Marvel vs Streetfighter. thought for a sec that ken was in mvc1. its been sooo long sice i played MvSF. its was truly a good game
If anyone wants an SB4 shirt still check the SB4 results! I’m doing another run. If any of you guys in Cle want one obviously it will be cheaper w/ no shipping
Just also like to say that you need to support all the games to build a scene. We never cared about Smash as a game, but it’s been a SOLID base for every SB, and we would have been in the red more more often than Year 1 without their support, so we treat them well and always give them dedicated space. Hell Smash could almost have funded the whole tourney a few times if we hadn’t had to fly out players, and just wanted to run a regular tourney in an open space.
Also I don’t like SFIV at all really but we knew it’s what people are into so it’s what we have to support – a TO’s preference for games doesn’t really matter, whatever brings in bodies!!
