Ken Q&A: Ask simple questions here?

Seems kinda risky doesn’t it? Only a one time thing.

Maybe Kara Shoryu would go behind him? Anyway I was never a fan of this gimmick.

I didn’t know you could dash through Sagat though. Thought it was just Honda. kewl.

I done it in a casual today against Sagat at the arcade. My first try and it worked. It surprised both me and Sagat!
I did the cross-by and went straight into a cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.mk xxTATSU.rh… I copped a nice TU at the end of the combo. But hell - that cross-by certainly was awesome!

I couldn’t pull it off again after many attempts. After a throw - I think Sagat’s head is facing you. So, 1, you can’t do it… and 2, He wakes up before you can even reach him. So practice makes perfect. Something to add to the ‘to-do list’ in training mode.

But goddamn - this match-up will become a little bit easier with this set-up.

Oh snaps! Mind Gamez!!! Another thing on sagat is to just bnb short jab and then Strong shoryu. Even if he quick gets up, you will cross him up. Although you have to be relatively close for it to hit.

Cause if you bnb with fierce shoryu and try to cross him up I’m sure everyone here knows you land at the perfect distance to catch a lp tiger uppercut, and it seems to always trade, so mix it up with this!!

for sagat i ussually try to reposition a tiny bit after a throw to go in for a safe jump.

anyways what’s this kara-shoryu that you guys are talking about… more kara for ken is allways a good thing, how do i do this one?

Cancelling a move that would move you forward into a shoryuken. A la step kick.

i figured as much, but my question is about physically doing it, are we buffering the dp then hitting f +mk ~ hp? or… what?

Thanks, that cleared up a lot of my confusion. I would rep you if I could.

However, I still have a question: I played m. bison for a little bit and learned this combo: cr.lp, s.lp, cr.mk xx lk scissors. It seems in this combo I’m cancelling my last medium kick into a scissors (a special). Is this because the first two attacks linked the next one? (or more technically s.lp -> cr. mk was a link)?

Need help breaking bad habits:

Jumping - It seems that for harder matches I get jump happy.
impatient
Wasting Ex
Jumping
Jumping
Watching BP - due to my bad habits I went from 2500 BP to 1700 BP, in a few hours. I just could not get over how my BP was dropping
Jumping

that’s right s.lp -> cr. mk was a link in that combo you mentioned.

Many cannot break the jump habit because not only they based their movements with jumps (instead of just walking and dashing) but they also based a huge amount of offense and defense on jump-ins/backs.

You need to develop a dash offense - a simple one would be dash and throw. From here your mind will see other possibilities of dashing and slowly you will reduce your jumping habits.

Dash back during wake up.
Until you give yourself a good alternative to jump and jump-ins it will be very difficult to break the bad habit. Dash to move and dash to attack.

HTH

I won alot of dumb matches today by playing a turtle ken. Like not even moving forward at all. Man Rugi(akuma) was pissed.

Anywhoo, what can cr. lp/mp/st. mp knock out of people? I know it works on blanka roll, and tatsu. what else?

And nobody used sagat/vega/honda today so couldn’t try out those dashthrus. Are those knockdown shoryu safe when you land?

^^ cr. mp works on honda’s headbutt also

Crazy, I gotta try out that dash-through thing on sagat n honda… Had a lot of truble with those two tonight…
Oh yeah I’ve noticed that cr.mp works on honda’s sumo smash ( the drop thing?)…

Can anyone tell me a good strategy against sagat and also how to beat bisons head press… Gets me everytime!!

Oh and thanks for helpin with the ultra execution ppl!! Worked like a charm

Cheers,
Kenz

Bison’s head stomp is tough man. Most of the time the best idea is to block. If you see it coming early enough though, you can dash.

mentioned a few times in match up thread. Take it to the match-up forums
But because I’m nice- a satisfying option is neutral j.rh

Either normal air tatsu or air.ex can do the movements you have described. When tatsu activates - it emphasizes your current state. If you are in a upward movement - it will emphasize this and get the ‘gouken effect’. If you do tatsu at the peak of you jump… it will emphasize a forward and downward motion. It’s a bit of inertia and physics.
For simple answer - do tatsu immediately after jumping to get a ‘gouken’ lift-off effect and do it later in the jump for a assault effect.

Ken’s air Tatsu is a whole other area of his game. It takes lots of practice and experience to control the speed and angle of what you desire.

Thanks, using the kara-piano method, I have gotten the desired tatsu effect.

Been messing around with the kara shoryu, might use it all the time now since i have a bad habit of doing hp shoryu when the guy is too far away.

Do you guys know if you can do a kara-ultra?

so, finally got to participate in my first real tourney (not a school one for free) and got worked over and over again, so i’m sober to the fact that my training is no where near good enough cause i couldn’t seem to hit much of anything.

so my questions: how do you guys deal with tournament jitters? what do you guys do to train for tournaments?

currently i just do 10 of each of my combo’s from each side, then move on to matches when i have time to play.

I don’t see why you COULDN’T do a k-Ultra.
But be careful with your K habits. As doing it adds on to start-up time. What makes the DP.fp good is its start-up of 3f. Doing a K will in effect add on a frame or more to the start-up giving the opponent more time to react/defend.

The most effective cure for the jitters is EXPERIENCE. Playing more in the arcades, public areas, or anywhere with an audience of peers all adds to it.

Took me 3 tourneys before I was cured. And now - I’VE COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN about the 30 guys standing behind me watching. The only time I realize they are there is when an epic moment in battle happens.
And nothing beats the cheer of a crowd

Concentration and composure is key. Focus on the match-up and your opponent. You are there to beat them - THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS.
