Ken General Thread: Go with the Flow

As i see it, the v-skill is there as a combo extender and to build v-bars. That second part is a little harder to achieve but it’s worth it since Ken with v-trigger is simply “gotlike” (read it with Xian’s voice). So it’s worth it to setup max range step kicks and to sacrifice some damage when you land a heavy jump in or a CC st hp in order to combo into step kick, since it builds 1/2 v-bar on hit and 1/4 v-bar on block.

StHP VSkill is punishable but you have to understand what that means. He’s unsafe after it but will only be punished by people who were expecting it and people who can react quick enough. I’m not saying “Everyone online is a scrub and cant punish it” but it’s not like if you do it from time to time, you’ll get punished every time. Even just mashing after stHP, the only thing I could punish with was crLP IIRC so it’s not like you’re gonna get hit with a heavy normal starter.

That being said, as someone mentioned (on here or in a video), it’s possible to CC with a heavy and vskill on reaction into a combo. It has it’s uses, it’s just lacking.

If you can punish with a jab then doesn’t that mean you can punish with a dp too? Both are 3 frames, right?

Ken is a beast in this beta. His pressure game is nasty. V-skill can be used up close, just really have to mix up the pressure strings.

Only thing I’m kind of mad about is his longer combos being worse than simple combos do to scaling.

Anyone find any combos worth using two meters for beside confirming off ex hado into v-trigger?

Out of every V-Skill I would easily argue this is the worst, there is no form of pressure you can apply with it everything is just unsafe. Outside of his V-Skill though he has the makings of a great character.

Does Ken really have no lower body invincibility on any of his non-EX DPs?

Well yeah I kinda worded it wrong since you can stuff wake up mp dp too with low attacks. Though if you are gonna do a non ex wakeup dp you might as well do it with mp, at least it’ll stuff like s. mk meaties or something.

Does anyone know why j.hk, cr.hp xx l.tatsu, super does more damage than j.hk, cr.hp xx v-trigger, l.tatsu, super?

iirc v-trigger cancel counts as a “move,” so it’s just adding another 10% reduction to the following hits

His crHP may be better for Anti airing.
CrHP > Run (MK+MP) > Heavy SRK
Cr HP > Run > Light SRK > Ex SRKxx

So I’m noticing that j.mk seems to be whiffing on Rashid a lot if he’s crouching. Anyone else having this happen?

Hitbox on that j.mk can be ass lol. I whiff on crouchers all the time. It’s always against bad players though since they would be the only ones crouching against a jump in at this point in time haha.

So what is the secret to canceling out of Ken’s V-Skill run?

Simply holding down will stop the run after a minimum distance has been covered.

cr.mp - TC1 - H.Tatsu

dash, whiff cr.lk and do m.tatsu, it’ll cross up and you can go into anything from it including super.

Only works on no quick rise of course but people aren’t doing it much.
