Ken General Thread: Go with the Flow

Ken just sounds unfinished…looks like it’s going to be very easy for him to be too crazy with the Run. I just hope they don’t nerf him for the sake of casuals and low level players. I don’t care if that junk is hard to block at scrub level, Ken needs to be able to cancel into Run safely to apply proper pressure. I like that his lights link into SRK and his V-trigger is not a FADC without the focus, but he they have to balance the run and allow ken to actually earn some meter somehow. Also don’t get why his step kick is tied to run (seems like a forced handicapped) when you can cancel into other normals to keep your opponent guessing. Along with step kick, Ken’s normals all look super unsafe and Max confirmed that in the video. Hurry up and balance him already Cappy!

Sup people. So as I understand it, Ken was originally Japanese in SF1, but then Capcom changed him to American and made him “3 quarters japanese”, (for whatever bizarre reason) but judging by his character design in SFV he doesn’t look American at all to me, he looks very much Japanese. And he can also speak Japanese, so I am kinda baffled as to why Capcom wants to keep promoting him as an American? Is this something they can even change at this point in 5?

who cares

Well virtually everyone in the US has origins from elsewhere, most aren’t of native american descent. If he was a white guy it would just mean instead of being japanese he would be italian, or french, or irish, or german, or whatever.

As long as throwing hadokens at each other is all cool, anything goes.

Who the fuck counts SF1 these days bruh

By the time the game actually drops do you believe they will make his v-skill a bit safer on block?

The thing is even if it is safe on block you will always be at frame disadvantage. If they learn to do frame perfect jabs (assuming they start up in 3 or 4 frames) kens only options will be block or risky dp. Momochi does the same thing against abels step kick dash. The only reason people have been getting away with run pressure is because nobody has had any lab time. Im only going to use the run to bait out step kick and use it to get in after a whiff punish cr.hk its too risky to use it for anything else imo. If they want to buff it without making it broken they need to change it so that he can instant cancel raw runs so he can extent his normals and bait them at close range.

I’ve said it before but the whole concept just seems flawed as of right now.

Seriously, it seems really lame atm…Would have preferred a run. I guess it could be a fun tool if you can instantly cancel it and ken would be mix-up king with dashes, run, and canceling normals and feinting. But if Capcom puts all these artificial holds on it because its too powerful, they need to go back to the drawing board.

If anybody gets a chance to play ken can you check if he can combo after a meaty overhead and find out what happens if ken plinks run with another normal.

I honestly think that makes Ken’s character that much cooler, being predominantly Japanese. They made him American to give us a representative, since the USA is the largest consumer base behind Japan with this game. Makes sense IMO.

So they still didn’t fix his face?
Fuck you capcom ;.;

Stop bitching or you will be called a 3s fan lol

First time i played 3s was a couple of months ago, Ha!! :stuck_out_tongue:

But srsly, i need my handsome Ken back.

is it just me or does the run step kick come out faster now?

Ken has always been ugly. Accept for for alpha with that gawdlike hair and eyes. They probably won’t increase the polygon count for hair in the game because it probably won’t run at 60 frames anymore.

Used the same technology that kojima used for mgs5 with realistic pictures in game.

Yeah that’s the kind of thing that’s impossible to verify and is very subjective right now.

But they seem to have changed chun-lis v-skill to build a smidge of bar on whiff, so maybe they’re looking at the v-skills that people complained as being bad for meter building, which includes ken’s.

Ken’s v-skill comes out if you hold mp+mk right? How exactly do you space it to not make it punishable? Maybe they should change it from holding to pressing it again so at least you have control over when you poke with it.
