Using V-Trigger you can get some extra damage off an anti air dp, You can also do it with H.Tatsu instead of EX.Tatsu but it only works at certain ranges where EX.Tatsu works at all ranges.
just for clarification on the short, jab, HP shoryu. In sf4 this was a link: jab xx jab > HP shoryu, so you essentially have more time to input. For sf5 it seems like you have to chain the jabs/shorts and cancel the shoryu. So when you hit your second jab YOU MUST hit the HP button right after or else its a flop. Not really a fan of this but meh. Seems like bison is easier with links lol…
ok so I am not an expert at finding tech so I don’t know if this one is super useful or maybe even already known, you guys tell me please.
First of all I need to test it on more characters but it works on Rashid for sure.
Works both in v-trigger and normal mode.
After cr.lk > cr.lp xx hp.dp
Run as soon as you land and do st.mp. It counters his reversals except EX so you get a counter hit and then you can combo.
Works with normal recovery and back recovery. If they do no recovery you can just not press the punch or press it anyways but it’s not dangerous.
If they normal recovery b.mp also works, it doesn’t work on back recovery because it’s too far.
EDIT : doesn’t seem to work on Ken, trade with hp.dp and loose to mp.dp. Might work only on characters with weak reversals or maybe even only on rashid.
Here’s another interesting combo in v-trigger you can get the double srk combo mid-screen (with ex only though)
cr.mp TC1 -> v-skill -> lp srk -> ex srk
Also in v-trigger it is really easy to actually do a cross-up tatsu and then combo into TC1. Maybe there is some setup to find there, I need to search but if anyone has any I’d like to see them.
I need some safe jump and ambiguous mixup setups. Having a hard time timing empty jump low attacks on opponents wakeup consistently, too. What do you guys have going?
I think someone posted something similar yesterday about anti air h.dp so I took it to the lab and checked it out and found this out.
If you land a h.dp. If you use vskill and then cancel to any normal that isn’t above 6 frames, b.mp, c.mp, c.hp. It will beat anything on wakeup except invincible reversals. C.hp will crush counter as well.
Curious if this works on block as well. On hit doesn’t help much because you still get a combo without CC which is pretty easy to confirm after the v-trigger freeze.
Now that I think about it, the v-trigger is + on block after st. HP anyway, right? Seems like i’d totally be okay with letting it rip for pressure alone without OSing it for the combo.
I haven’t tried it yet with s.mp but if you cancel that into fireball v trigger you can get some pretty good damage.
Edit: just labbed it out and found that on back tech the only thing they seems to stuff is s.hk after vskill. I don’t think there is a way to cover both just that if you see a back tech react to it during the run and use s.hk.
double edit: Just check that there is a way to beat the back tech however if you end a combo with hk.tatsu if you dash afterwords and then hit cr.hp it will beat both back tech and normal tech. Except on a 3frame light dp, but I think if you delay it for 1 frame it will block the l.dp, and trade with h.dp. Doesn’t seem as strong as h.dp vskill setups but still is worth considering for the mixup and against characters without good reversals.
I did try it only on Rashid with the st.mp it works on his backroll too, might have to take a micro step before the run, I don’t remember I’ll try it out tonight.
But yes you can st.mp xx fireball xx v-trigger > whatever you want.
You can also st.mp xx fireball xx CA at least on normal tech.
Ok so testing right now, I am not the best so there might be some mistakes:
I always do this with st.mp I feel like it’s the most versatile. It has more range, even tho cr.mp would definitly be the best choice overall.
First of all it looses to every super it seems so I don’t say it in the details.
R.Mika :
BackRoll : Beats everything including her EX butt.
Normal : : Loose to EX butt, beats the normal ones + grabs (including EX)
Laura :
BackRoll : Beats everything including her EX.
Normal : : b.mp beats her EX, st.mp hits her armor but you can combo it into shoryu and you win if you want to take the risk (cause I don’t feel like you can confirm).
Rashid:
BackRoll : Beats everything except his EX.
Normal : : Beats everything except his EX.
Zangief:
BackRoll : Beats everything including ex grab.
Normal : : Beats everything including ex grab.
Chun Li:
BackRoll : Loose only to EX spining bird kick.
Normal : : Loose only to EX spining bird kick.
I’ll try more later. This definitly could use refining, I think you can use cr.mp on some character and maybe even st.hp on some (for the crush counter as said above). For example vs Ryu cr.mp beats his lp.DP whereas st.mp doesn’t.
Anyone messing with CC timings after common combos?
I haven’t got anything in depth yet since I only tested normal quick rise and s.HP but definitely something to look into (like above with HP srk > vskill).
Xx mk tatsu, whiff s.mk, s.HP
Xx HK tatsu, whiff s.lp, s.HP
Xx HP srk, wait for ken to land, dash, s.hp .
I don’t think it’s worth, just because it covers less options than other things, and that makes it less threatening imo, plus it’s not a high/ low and you’re negative enough on block that they can push buttons on you.
Little video demonstrating how Ken can capitalize off of specific trades. The combo here is a bit complex, mechanically, just because it’s taking advantage of the late hit light SRK (V-Trigger) to get an extra juggle property, and then cancelling the light tatsu into super is a really weird motion.
Not too many ppl know this, but you can tick throw with +2 on block, beating out cl standing moves.
Set your practice dummy’s recovery (standing) to a jab reversal & then use the following:
cr LP or stLP with F+Grab. You can do it with B+Grab as well.
I apologize if it’s already posted, but there were a bunch of people mentioning that you couldn’t do a lot with throws. He gets a meaty jumpin with them too with MK (also crosses up) & MP if you delay tech.
