u guys may not remember me but ill say it anyways
wats up Inerd and Renegade
good shyt at magfest but i too do not like the three day set up. I did however like the set up you guys had at AUSA where you guys had two tourney’s (one on Friday and one on Saturday). If i remember correctly you guys (GPX) said you would have given out money prizes if you guys had a pot and would have liked to run a Pot Tourney and a Braggers Rights tourney. I personally would rather see the 2 tourneys (one for a prize and one for bragging rights) but if you guys are going to do the 3 day thing i def wont be able to make it.
If my friend can hook me up I’ll come by to see whats up
I have been thinking about that - I might in the next week switch to our Boston style schedule - which is run the tourney each day as a separate tourney and then normally have the grand finals on Sunday (Which is the finalist from Friday vs finalist from Sunday.)
That we do in Boston because we get upward of 5000 person traffic in just gaming and have to cater to as many of the attendees as possible in a 37,000 sq ft game room.
Katsu is not as large but they are growing nicely and we figure they can be near the 10,000+ attendance mark this year with the new facility, so it might change to be similar to Boston’s schedule. If the players from Friday and Saturday for any particular game are not going to be there Sunday we will hold their finals Saturday night to accommodate.
I had also considered just to run each tournament as its own tournament and end then each day with payouts and give the finalists the option to play the finalists from each night in an FT5/10 match.
We will see, in the end I go with the pulse of the attendees.
That might very well be the result. AB style schedule, one with a pot and one without.
You know…I’ll go with that and start adjusting the schedule now for that. ^^.
(Mandy is driving while I type, we’re picking up kids for Pound 4 in Frederick, MD - so I have time to do it now).
EDIT: I went ahead and made the changes, it makes sense for this show to have it this way based on our previous year watching how the community plays here at Katsucon.
So you guys have Friday for Bragging Right
Saturday for Pot Tourneys
Sunday is Petitioned Tourney day
everything else is solidly for casuals and freeplay.
Thanks for the input guys, keep it coming.
Wow, very nice Manny. You continue to surprise and please. :bgrin:
One last thing I’d like to add, and I’m not saying this because of game preference necessarily. However, if there are planned set ups for MBAA I highly suggest that it replaces King of Fighters 12. Reason being you pretty much are guaranteed to not get many attendees for that game. I mean I know of no scene for the game around the area. If you look at KOF12 the game was pretty much dead on arrival.
The scene for melty isn’t stellar, but it has players. I know of plenty of people who would like to enter, and it will be good exposure to people who don’t know about the game. In fact I didn’t find out about Melty blood until Otakon 08. If you add the tournament I could definitely advertise it!
Plus, melty is HYYYPE
KoF was originally requested by one of the folks from the convention, so I am going to leave it and let them have their KoFXII (personally I would rather use XI or MaxImpact Regulation A on a Japanese PS2). MBAA is a hit or miss title, we will have it at the show, and I think enough folks will request a tourney for it that we can run one on Sunday. If it looks really bleak for KoFXII early on, I’ll have our tourney officials replace it with MBAA if the requests are coming in early enough.
Some tiltes you just have to be where the players are - KoF has a great crowd in Texas, SoCal and Mexico. MBAA is sporadic, even for a title that would be perfect at an Anime Convention - we have seen it get no play and end up swapping it for something else, like Arcana Hearts or on the Import PS2 - Hokuto no Ken or Ikkitousen (FAN SERVICE!!! YO UGH!)
Funny enough a title we get a lot of requests on but tourney wise its dead is Hudson V Takara DreamBout (Melee style game with different company characters including Optimus Prime on the PS2) - people love it, but they don’t care to compete in it.
One of our biggest strengths which is a weakness when it comes to choosing is our inventory of games (almost in the 800’s unique titles). its a lot to ever attempt to rotate in a weekend.
We’ll see how well these do in Katsucon, even through its roughly the same area, Katsu and AUSA audiences like different games, we have noticed.
See you guys soon - I’m at Pound 4
Yah, I’m not really saying KOF in general doesn’t have a scene. Just KOF12 on its own isn’t really getting anyones attention. Not even hardcore KOF players. I think they still rather play better titles like 2002 UM. Also, I can’t find anything on this Hudson game. Like is that the american title? It sounds neat, though. Also, yah, I can tell its quite different and its hard to cater to each audience. Looking at your boston tournament it looks like people loving that GG/MBAA, though.
thanks again!
Yeah Anime Boston - HUGE with Import titles, we have an enormous Japanese DDR Track and IIDX following there as well as Hokuto no Ken, and a variety of other japanese games like Super Robot Taisen (all, including the single players) its kind of nuts.
Here is a link to the Hudson title: Dream Mix TV: World Fighters

it’s out of print, very rare, but lots of fun, Reminiscent of Melee like I said before other titles like this one, Neon Genesis Battle Orchestra

There is a version for it on PSP too which is a title we will have for the convention, in our Line Control tourneys ^^
and the other title that most people are most familiar with that’s like Melee for the Anime crowd is BattleStadium D.O.N.

and of course we carry them all ^^
We also carrry

Full Metal Alchemist: Dream Carnival which is of the same type of game play as Melee.
All of these are the Japanese Import versions we have setup on our Import PS2’s.
That was the big focus last year, we setup all the Import games for Katsucon and helped with other aspects of the event, this year forward we handle gaming completely with GPX staff and run all tournaments and rulesets for the Game Room are also GPX standard, so sticks and your own controllers you can bring them…PLEASE! We love BYOC…
keep the questions coming guys, we love to read them.
I’m surprised you guys do not have marvel vs. capcom 2 for the ps3(mainly cause i have my arcade stick for that system heh) but I will still be at katsucon nonetheless for the tekken 6 tournament. I was wondering what is the rules on controllers/arcade sticks and do you guys allow hot keys? Because i do not use them heh. I have a marvel vs. capcom 2 tournament edition stick for the ps3 and a ps2 to ps3 controller converter for my ps2 controller obviously. Going to be my first major tournament as well as anime convention, cant wait!
We have the game on PS3 360 and dreamcast. The tourney official for MvC2 is dreamcast. And there are a few small pockets of communities for this game. (NYC, Ohio, Florida - Tampa really and SoCal). It will be there for casual and free play.
BYOC is in effect for controllers. And for tourneys no macros are allowed
Team Whirly Bird will bring it back again, and this time with more WHIRLY BIRD.
I will also be bringing my Litchi that swept BB during AnimeUSA hard. Fear the meat buns.
rofl
sounds amazing lol, if only mvc2 was on ps3 loll, i dont have a dreamcast controller/nevermind an arcade stick for that system heh
To clarify bud,
You can play casuals MvC2 on PS3 - but I would recommend getting a green goblin (ASCII Stick) and play on DC
i work at a local arcade so i know everybody, and my friend lent me his ASC for this tournament, cause i’m figuring all the better players will be on the original tourney designated system instead loll.
Is street fighter being played on ps3? If so I think I have to go buy a p3 stick since EVO is also ps3?. What does “keninblack” mean?
keninblack means messiahinic god of 3s
Sorry but whirly birds don’t mean shit to SOVA Chun-li legs. :wgrin:
well so much for trying to do SFIII and T6 together on friday. S’all good. I’m some trash in 3s as of recent.
I’d love to join a SF4 team pot for serious…and giggles. 5 bucks really isn’t shit to lose in a shit game.
