Throw/hit mixup is probably the best one, especially when they’re used to blocking, mixed in with everything else. It’s +2 on hit, or if you’re at far range you can do step 2 d+MP which is probably +3 on CH.
Building on this, you could probably do guren ken, d+p, and on counter hit you can link a c.lp xx just tenko, guren ken.
That seems like a pretty strategy to get people to stop jabbing during guren ken.
That tutorial/trial mode of Karin…so much…Win. lol
instead of Success! you get You Win!
It’s actually nice to see trials you can actually use in-game that are practical.
Part of that is that simplicity of the combo system.
I wonder how much Fight Money/Character Exp you get for completing them.
They said you’d get Fight Money for completing trials and daily challenges, story etc., so yeah, ramble ramble.
Those aren’t the real trials.
Right, the real trial will be digging salt mines for all the haters who don’t like getting laughed at Ojou style.
Also, that Karin theme has me feeling some type of way, I never actually payed attention to it before, it’s kinda nice.
The v-trigger, rekka trial wouldn’t have passed because it wasn’t a combo. Boo to this inauthenticity, boooo.
Been messing around with Karin alot this week and watching a ton of videos, only thing I simply never use is the shoulder. Ever since the reset got removed I haven’t really found where I should use it, could someone tell me how/where/why I’m missing out?
Highest damage meterless combo ender, forms a frametrap off a normal and is safe with the ability to combo on CH, EX version leads to a bit under 300 damage for 1 meter.
I’m not especially a fan. But, to share one secret: (EX shoulder > low forward > rekka) is meaty enough to combo into elbow or overhead.
Is shoulder still a combo ender? It seemed like the new launcher height prevented launcher > shoulder and launcher > launcher > super. But maybe I was doing it wrong.
I definitely saw the Tool Assisted bot doing it although there were occasional drops near the corner.
And that combo, is the cr.MK resetting them with the rekka whiffing and then meatying with the follow-up?
Edit: They are getting hit by the initial rekka (which hits twice - the second hit tags them, and combos into the step 2 followups which normally don’t combo. Elbow at least becomes a frametrap on block, not sure about overhead.)
The overhead still combos if they’re hit crouching, because this game (I’m guessing) has the same “standing on the first frame of wakeup” thing. Not sure whether it’s possible to override by reversal crouch normals though. Or maybe rekka forces standing? I’m not actually sure, now I think of it.
Sorry, walk though this with me? You do EX Shoulder which crumples. Cr.mk hits them in an airborne state and forces an aerial reset. Then the second Rekka hits them meaty enough that the Elbow followup is a tight blockstring and they’ll have trouble smacking you out of the overhead?
As you said, except I haven’t tested how tight the overhead is on block. I only know that the elbow becomes a frametrap.
Both will combo from the meaty rekka if they don’t block on wakeup. For example, rekka -> u+P is a 3-hit combo. Rekka -> d+P is 2 hits. As for why they wouldn’t block, maybe because you mixed up previously with RP/CD/EX CD/whatever.
Interesting; doesn’t seem to be particularly strong as a frametrap thanks to both the Overhead and RP being negative on block but could be a fun gimmick.
Agree. Since even elbow leaves you negative, I don’t think it’s the best way to spend meter on a reset.
It is an example of a case where it works better against people who are familiar with Karin, and have an idea in their head of what to do when they see a reset or a rekka.
The meta isn’t fully developed yet, but at the moment I feel that saving meter for V-Reversal is better than blowing it on V-Trigger unless you’re going for a round ender.
I had a decent success rate with using shoulder during neutral. Normals are so stubby that many characters can’t really do much if you block the first hit. And of course you have the option to go for the x-up if they try anything funky.
