Karin General Thread: Elegant offense for a more civilized age

How does she deal with fireballs? I was struggling against Nash in particular, his fb zoning seems to give Karin trouble. Fireballs in general felt good vs her. HP QCB+P felt too slow to be used on reaction to FBs, had to be a guess, but when I knew a FB was coming, QCB+P worked great for getting in on fireball happy players with obvious patterns. Other than that, I was struggling. EX command dash surprisingly is also terrible for dealing with FBs, at least from my own experience. Any tips?

Midscreen I didn’t really know what to do outside of footsies. I played just an instinctual footsie game with her, and abused her walk speed + pokes to annoy people/push them to the corner. I wasn’t really sure how else to “open” people up. cr mk xx LK dash felt gimmicky to get offence going in the neutral game, plus felt very minus. Cr mk poke to Mujinkyaku, is this a legit pressure tool/mixup? LK kicks felt kinda bad on block, and people can just cr jab interrupt the proceeding overhead if you go for the MK version. I feel like she excels just at a raw poking game in neutral game rather than relying on specials or any kind of mixup. Maybe some guys here who are more experienced with the character and her frame data etc can comment on this.

Her corner pressure is nasty, Karin is a real bully when she corners someone. I was pinning people in the corner all day and just bullying with walk in/walk out to st mk (godlike range, you can stand outside lows and just tag people with this move over and over because of it’s massive horizontal hitbox). st.mk really shines in the corner where as midscreen I feel it’s not as powerful. To top it off, when she has V Trigger her pressure gets so much better, really liking the feel of this char.

EX Tenko (QCF+Kicks) and Punch.

Like many characters, you can use her super on reaction against fireballs. EX Dash also goes under the faster booms and shoulder is safe on block, but it’s not something I would rely on because the timing and spacing is very tricky, and you don’t know which speed they will throw. If they throw the fast booms from close it’s tricky to react to.

guys, is there any use of her Vskill ?

To nullify fireballs and use it after that dash upper cut move to build vtrigger. A little to slow but I’m glad it isn’t faster people can go nuts with Karin lol

Karin lost a lot of damage. Her EX Shoulder does 20 less damage. Her cr. LP, st. MK, st. HK, j. MK, f+MK and regular Shoulder does 10 less. cr. LK does 10 more, but you can’t even link it into itself nor into cr. LP.

To deal with fireballs I mainly used HP QCB+P and I got it to hit 9/10 times. Can’t say if I was playing against bad opponents though (2k lp~).

Anybody got to test if these V-skill setups from Tenko still works this well? I completely forgot to check. Otherwise it’s good instead of QCB + L.K for more corner carry.

Any tips from the vetssss? Like I said, I didn’t even touch V-Trigger yet, just tried to get used to the basics of SF.

No, doesn’t work anymore. They changed the recovery a bit because that was a safejump setup on phase 2.

I’m very skeptical of the “doesn’t work anymore” stuff after hearing that about the mujinkyaku setup and then finding out in beta 3 that it’s actually even better now.

Never really tried V-skill juggles though so I couldn’t tell you.

I still have plenty of things left to add to my play. After discovering that the initial rekka is actually safe when spaced, my interest in VT mixup went up a lot, but I didn’t have time to test it. There’s also use of EX upkicks buffered in footsies or off a single light normal (low short is cancelable now.)

Karin really loves that midrange spacing out of the range of normals. CC sweep benefited her probably more than any other character.

VSkill safejump is no longer there from what I saw, although I just did some basic checks.

Ah yeah, it’s her best BnB on jump-ins and when you hit Cr. Mk -> Tenko -> L. upkicks

I didn’t use QCB + M.K at all during the whole beta, even though I used light and heavy quite alot. When I spectated “Toolasisted” who was rank 1 with Karin at the time I saw him using it constantly, which I found weird.

guys…I have some amazing clips from beta3… karin player was named “Tsumuji” and he is rly sick. He won PR-Rog few times.

Just need to figure out the way to “compress” those files and upload on youtube. Cuz each fight has few GB. I was recording with shadow play.

Would love to see, can’t you just straight out upload them? Or do you need to render them with some editing software?

I can upload but files are very big… do you suggest any free rendering software ? cuz my net is has kinda slow for upload… and files are big,so it will take some time.

Tsumuji eh? Yeah that guy was good. I played him in a mirror match and lost but unfortunately the game didn’t seem to save the replay when I checked. I wanted to see what i was doing wrong (and he was doing right).
