Karin General Thread: Elegant offense for a more civilized age

Apparently she lost her late cancel of cr.mk. I care more about this than that dash under reset.

Meh… it was inevitable she was gonna get nerfed.

I guess that’s just a hit confirming thing. Long as she can still do c.MP, c.MK command dash dorya im good.

If you guys keep talking about things out of nowhere like everyone automatically knows what info you’re referring to, I’ll probably end up in a looney bin.

Sounds dubious though. Late cancel is the only cancel on c.MK, so either that’s actually a buff (changed to an earlier cancel so there’s less of a gap on block) or whoever said that just failed to do it properly.

LPN tweeted about it. Maybe they just dropped the impact freeze so it’s harder to confirm. cr.mk was an easy-ish hit-confirm in the last beta.

On this subject, I worry a bit for new players who try to join the scene in SF5 and don’t already know people on social media, much less the ones in their area. Talking about things on twitter is already hard enough to follow sometimes as it is, with how quickly the feed tends to swell up.

When people have long conversations about character or matchup details for example on twitter instead of on a forum, it’s fine for their immediate purpose, but if someone else wants to ask the same question later, or use it as reference for whatever reason, good luck finding it.

I’m an old man so I don’t like twitter. I just use it read news. On Twitter it’s hard to tell what’s true or not when people just have 160 characters to say some thing they think they found. Not worth the headache for me. Half the paranoia over SFV has been fueled by these tweets that are sometimes right and sometimes not right.

There are different Facebook groups that are good for discussion along with forums like SRK or reddit. Plus the game’s CFN network when expanded will most likely allow socializing within the game itself. That should be the whole point of CFN is to get people to socialize through the game so there is literally no way anyone can not know about a competitive SF scene or how to get better. You are connected to the competitive world of SF as soon as you hit the power button.

It’s really something that should have been in fighting games a long time ago and hopefully it gets fighting games to a point where everyone who plays SF even barely sometimes has an idea that it has competitive depth to it and people to socialize and train with concerning it.

Since Karins mixups seem so weak, what exactly is her Gameplan supposed to be? Is she meant to use her good buttons to apply midrange pressure like more of a Chun or Fei kind of character?

She has a really fast command normal overhead that hops over lows and good forward walk speed so her mix up is pretty decent. Just bully people with overheads and throws. Otherwise, yes she is more of a mid range character until you pop V Trigger.

Oh and supposedly c.mk can not be canceled period now. If true that means its basically just a long low poke now. Doesn’t surprise me since it had more range than just about every other c.mk and was cancelable.

Is there video of this?

No just word from a guy on the Nash thread that knows a guy that’s playing the game at Capcom

CAPCOM
Y U NO WANT FUN CHARACTERS =(

Oh well, I’m sad to say that I’m not surprised if her c.MK can’t be canceled anymore.

Really Capcom? Really?

She had the longest ranged cancelable c.mk in the game (with great forward walk) so I guess it was inevitable.

I think he mistook the no late cancel report for no cancel period? I saw no late cancel from someone at Capcom on twitter and well…I mistook for no cancel for a bit.

That’s why I used the word supposedly. I remember ilitirit reporting simply removal of the late cancel and not all the cancel frames.

Overhead frames are basically standardized, 19f, -6 on block, some degree of low crush. It’s completely average.

I don’t see her VT really changing her game much; you can do a little fishing with it and sway to safety but it’s basically a combo extender on juggles.

I’m imaging they went full A3 and made St.MK cancelable and cr.mp a low though…

Fair and balanced adjustment IMO. cr.mk was a broken move anyway. One time I hit a guy with it and his controller exploded in his hands. Capcom is simply thinking of the children.

Goddamn it, I started laughing and choked on my tea when I read this.

Even after the nerf cr.mk is still too strong.

Ah, so nothing is confirmed? Cool. Just gotta patiently wait for the next stress test then.
