Karin General Thread: Elegant offense for a more civilized age

Weather it was crucial to her gameplay or not is irrelevant, it was a part of her moveset and a tool that could be used and they took away. We don’t how it would have worked in this game and now we can’t find out. To me that’d be like removing ryu and ken tatsumki since it isn’t useful in every game, its mainly just used for combos which they could just make another move viable in its place. I’ve always played characters with counters like geese,hokuto and kasumi so removing a move that they think would have been broken is kinda silly, Its a playstyle of the character that could be used if wanted.

They removed the counter, simply get over it or stick to playing Alpha 3 where she has it. I enjoyed using her counter but at no point will I miss it. Removing her Rekkas would be a lot bigger of a deal.

Bison has been in more than one game and in the alpha series he didn’t have it either. Charlie can be different because he was just an alternate guile and guile will eventually be in the game through DLC if he’s not in by default already. Try again.

Also I’m fine with changes, charlie was made that way through story reasons and to be even more different than guile. Karin was just changed…not to mention she was only in 2 games.

And then Guile doesn’t show up and you look like a fucking moron. Shut your damn mouth. No one bitched about Bison not having a non-Super Psycho Crusher in Alpha. Mika is missing a bunch of her moves from Alpha 3, I don’t see you whining about that. Birdie is missing moves. Every single Alpha character is missing moves. As much as I love Karin, there’s absolutely NO reason why she should be some special exception that keeps absolutely everything. Especially since every single Alpha character were given multiple new things to compensate for what was taken away.

I think the concern is no one likes reduced movesets. Karin’s was one of the most expansive and well thought out of any street fighter character.

Can we talk about other aspects of karin? It’s becoming really hostile in here over something small.

Change is change. Whether its once or many times. The big aspect of Karin is still there which is her rekkas and Capcom went so far to make it her V Trigger to make a big statement about such.

How do I look like a moron when guile shows up when I said he would show up? You missed tho whole point of why I mentioned guile. People aren’t complaining about mika cause hardly anyone used her in alpha in the first place and you know why she’s back. Mika also isn’t missing anything that they didn’t replace, they took a grab they added a grab, same with birder. People did complain about birde, but people were more mad that birdie look changed into something they didn’t want. Also about what you said earlier they did mess with karin’s rekkas, they did that and took away her counters without giving her something like her counters.

You can try and dismiss this however you want, but this is a legit complaint. I said she still looks good but I’m still not a fan of how much they just outright changed her without reason. Especially locking the way she used to use her old rekka’s behind V-trigger. No one else was changed like that. I’m still gonna main her but I find it odd you’re trying to shut me up over this since its gameplay related. I see if I was talking about her hair or something but I’m not. I still love the character design and all but I can rant can’t I?

No. The concern this whole time was some people think counters is a big part of Karin’s gameplay when it clearly is not.

They gave her a backstep off the rekka. Which imo, is much better than a counter. Nobody cares if you want to be cool and say “Haha I got you with my counter!”

Capcom removed her counter and command grab because one of the yet to be revealed characters is a counter/command grab heavy character already.

Probably one of the new ones.

If you need proof of the different views on why someone likes a character, go look at your own Mika thread. First 3 pages since reveal are 90% discussing how she looks and “dat ass” jokes about her super. The only mechanical conversation is the occasional “her v-trigger looks interesting” and her stunner. You guys don’t even get significantly get into discussing her moveset until page 5 and even then it’s like 65% moves 35% discussing SJWs/how she looks/how others look. Even by page 12 you’re still occasionally having almost half a page of discussing how she looks physically and kreygasming over her T&A.

Look at this thread, the first page alone is majority discussing her moveset with the occasional ohohoh jokes. In general discussing her looks/voice are significantly out weighed by discussing how her moves work and what her options are in different situations. Not that the discussion of her looks, especially her intro walk, doesn’t come up but it’s a far less often and less discussed thing compared to her moveset in the entire thread.

Eh i’m just annoyed they removed two of her specials. No command grab? No Counter? AND Mixup options from rekka are behind v-trigger? That’s pretty limiting.

1 or 2 of those maybe, but all 3 is ridiculous. If they did it for ‘balance’ then that says something about the game itself. Someone with actual options would be to good and the concept of ‘buffing up’ and expanding characters was just words from capcom, not their actual intention at all. You can make the command grab deal almost no damage, you make the counter deal hardly any damage, there are ways to balance it without removing them and I really hope the overhead & low are safe in v-trigger or else she has no mixup there at all. I like how changing SF5 is changing stuff up, but limiting a charaters play style & giving yet another character run/dash style mechanics that are gimmicky is just silly.

Like her design & stage, and would like to see how safe the low & overhead is from her rekka. If they both aren’t safe on block (it is fine for them to be interruption before they come out with an invincible move) then there really isn’t any mixup there either so that is disappointing. I do like how her overhead special can just be used raw, but we will see how strong that stays.

Well she has her grounded crossup move which we haven’t really seen in action much to help with mixups but yeah she is a lot more limited now than before.

On the plus side, it looks like she has one of the most easily confirmed supers in the game thanks to rekkas and she builds it fairly easily. Her BnBs also seem to do decent damage with something like crMK xx Launcher - Vskill doing what looks to be around ~200-220 damage which isn’t a lot but in the context of how SF5 is shaping up it looks to be on the noticeably above average range for a meterless BnB that can be used during footsies. Most characters seem to only be getting ~160-200 off of a buffered normal in neutral without burning EX meter and hers builds her v-meter on top of everything

Honestly my favorite thing i’ve seen about her is we finally have a character that doesn’t get to literally laugh at fireballs.

Do we know if her EX Dash passes through fireballs or her EX Overhead? Because that would give her a pretty good anti fireball option even if it requires meter she builds it pretty quick from what we’ve seen.
