I’m 110% fine with an OG vs new school match.

Josh - Sure thing, man. I’ll definitely be around Tuesday. GJ looks awesome but I dunno, Yang might be the more solid of the 2 in SSF4. Seiei-Enbu slashes into ultra looks tight. Assuming he can combo into slashes off of cr.jab, that’ll be some nasty shit.

On practice mode: I’ve been on it more lately too. A quote from a book kind of inspired me. “BUT BEWARE. In order to shine in all moments you must prepare. You must do your homework. Preparation means doing what I call the lonely work: the unglamorous tasks that no one tells you to do and the hard work that no one will notice.”

you can read? damn… im behind

I try to avoid it whenever possible. I only read it cause I was on the shitter, obv

OG vs New Crew…wow and I’m in the OG class. Now I know I feel old. Thanks John for making a guy feel his death bed coming sooner. Will this be a 4v4 SBO style or will it be best 2/3 exhibition matches?

Yeh bout the runback it was a pride thing. I just had to know if I just stuck with my main would it have gone differently.

Not sure how much good intrasquad 4v4 will do us. Whoever wins will be slightly less free to STL, let alone the rest of the world. We need to discuss the kinks in our game that out-of-town players are exploiting, and then have a community training mode session. Personally, I need some sort of medication to keep my adrenaline/blood pressure down during tight matches, I end up pressing buttons faster than I would in training mode/casual matches.

I also need tips on how to work on my reactions in training mode, missed opportunities on punishes (especially tight windows to AA a rare jump-in) cause a snowball effect on my matches against better players. I have a feeling of what Juicebox is going to say, I don’t have speakers so I can’t listen to the podcast. I originally wrote something retarded about top players giving bad advice on purpose, after some thought I think they all give basic common sense advice and blaze a trail for the new players to get halfway up the mountain, but you have to come up with your own tools to meet them at the peak.

Oh yeah, I totally ripped this off from Mr. K in the STL thread. I eventually hope to rob him of his desire to play SF, but I gotta take babysteps.

I am very new to the game and I was hoping for some pointers or if possible to come watch one of your hook ups I have only played SSF4 a few times with friends. I was pretty good on the old arcade and I am a friend of Bobsmack I am hoping to get decent at the game cause I love Street Fighter in general.

Anyways let me know if I may attend thanks again guys and I look forward to meeting you…

Haha. In order to discourage me from playing SF you need to hold on to your fight money when I come back to KC :razzy:

Edit: And I totally stole it from one of the posts on the SRK front page so that probably makes it fair game anyway.

ALRRRIGHHHHT. FINALLLY. What a weight off my shoulders. I’m back up to speed with everything. I’m ready to come back. Letsssss go.

See everyone friday.

UH OH!!! Nice to see you making your return buddy. You’ve been missed.

JSpot, Chachi, Nice reference posts. I read through the OS.com one thoroughly, and listened to Juicebox’s entire podcast (THIS is really, really good stuff. If you have ANY doubt in your fundamentals, listen to Juicebox’s podcast, it’s seriously that good.)

Nick, I didn’t reply to you at first because I felt like your post was initially being salty because of my cocky attitude, but you have me bang on with those points.

-The sweep thing is an old habit that is beginning to die out, but I did it vs you because I don’t think you were punishing it like 90% of the time. Still a bad thing to be throwing out.

-The Meter management is probably my weakest link. I burn ex constantly. I do this, because I often see a reward for my impatience against weaker players. I get a lot of damage almost for ‘free’ just doing this to stop focus attacking, and also, it’s free chip damage even if they block. It doesn’t make it good to use as much as I do, and it IS habitual. I’ll work hard on making this more of a mind game, than a habit.

-Screen control, I do yield too much ground, too fast. I do this in a lot of matchups because I suppose I feel comfortable in the corner. My yomi is usually really good, so when I’m playing the zoning game, I’m not afraid to have my back to the wall. I can usually escape just fine. However, it’s still not a good place to be. Especially vs characters like Honda with jab>hands for tick and chip pressure, and stop sign to stuff jump outs.

Good assessment man. I’ll make mental note of these while I’m playing and try to smooth out my edges. It’s nice to hear myself broken down like this, because we don’t have the benefit of recording our matches and looking over them ourselves, and rarely, do I get the opportunity to lose much here in KC, so it’s refreshing to get some insight. You are quite the professor.

Still can’t shake that SC2… Want to be #1 Diamond (and i’m getting there) before I slow down at all. But I have played BBCS (god help me, I’m liking this game a lot more now that Jin is becoming more natural.) and SSFIV today. I’ll keep grinding out as much as I can before SB5.

FT5 vs anyone in BBCS. Monetary donations are accepted. I’d actually like to play vs Dator and Luke as soon as possible. But B1argh you know you’re first on my list.

Finally, What date works best for everyone regarding MAXOUT? Oct 2nd, or Oct 9th?

EDIT: Oops.

Oct. 2nd, the rest of the world will be in Columbus on the 16th.

John -
Nah I wasn’t salty when I made that post. I’ll admit, when we were playing I was pretty salty and determined. Half because of the shit that went down at Max Out, half because you used to respect my game and then started losing that respect for me when I fell off my game. I don’t blame you though. I took a dramatic drop off. I just came to show you that I haven’t lost a step, new character or not. It was more like “who the fuck does this guy think he is? I’ll beat some respect into him on the sticks if I have to.” As far as the Max Out shit goes, we talked about that shit and it’s all water under the bridge. Everything’s gravy.

The main reason I made the post is that I feel like we don’t make an effort to analyze and criticize the best of us here in KC and that makes us weak when we play out of towners who are better than us because we get the “Hey it works here so it must be ok” mentality. I stopped giving advice to people because I lost confidence in my ability to play the game and game knowledge but that’s over and done with. I have problems adapting during gameplay but I feel that when I watch other people play, I can break things down pretty well.

On the sweep thing, you’re right that I wasn’t punishing it a lot but you didn’t throw it out in super meaty situations either and I did get a few jab/fp hhs from them. You usually tossed it out max range or made it whiff pretty far away so it was hard to punish. I thought it was worth mentioning though because a lot of characters can punish it pretty hard even from max range on block (super or ultra) and it’s basically not worth doing it all since you have that beastly c.mk. If you hit one, however, make sure you 100% set up safe jump pressure afterwards too other wise what’s the point. Throwing out c.hks with most characters is bad in general I would think unless you have a godly c.hk (Chun) or have a character centered around knockdown oki with a decent sweep (Akuma, Rufus). That’s my two pesos on the matter.

As for Max Out, I’d probably prefer to have it after SB5, but that’s more for personal money issues.

Max Out next week? That’s awfully soon, I’ve been really busy with school and looking for a job and I’ve hardly had any time to practice. I agree with Nick.

Out of the two dates you mentioned Axiom, Oct 9th would be better for me…

9th definitely

FR14 Midwest Qualifier Announcement:
FinalRound.org - Home of the largest fighting game tournament in the Southeast!

SRK Thread: http://shoryuken.com/f7/kansas-city-final-round-14-midwest-qualifier-dec-18-2010-ssf4-t6-bb-cs-mb-aa-251795/#post9545312

i see the majority is for the 9th ish…

stl is a no show if thats the case(unless others can find another ride). i PM’ed axiom the dates STL can make it out on.

i even told jeff (kurasa) it was the 2nd and he said he would show only if stl showed up and PJ even sent me a text this morning saying he was free on the weekend of the 2nd. so i guess TvC, tekken, and sf comp is a no show for you guys.

i know prodigy is wanting PJ to return as well as some others, but a PJ return in november… the chances are less than 5%.

not tryin to make you guys bend over backwards for us, but we are 1/4 of the attendance(for sf) and the city you guys are tryin to beat(in all games).

a max out with maybe warden and 1-2 from springfield…might as well just call it another ranking hook up.

as for food hook up…i guess if its on the 9th, its a KC only dinner.

bottom line, id go for biggest attendance. if you want an out of town type tourney, 2nd…if you want it a KC only tourney, 9th.

enjoy the decision.

I vote 2nd.

9th is a no go for me.

old school for the 2nd, new school for the 9th PLUS kong is a NO SHOW for the 9th. with kong being the best in KC imo, id go for the date he would be able to show(if i was in axiom’s shoes).

if i was kong, id be thinking, why would i go on a date with no comp. tho this may not be the reason, it would be legit to me. i dont see kong as the type of player who cares more for the money than the levelin up/comp one could receive. opposite of rex

again, enjoy picking the date. i know which i’d go for.

I’ll see what I can work out with Toads to set this up on the 2nd.

I work tomorrow, so I’ll try to get it posted up tomorrow night.

I agree with all of these points that Glen mentioned. We need to have our toughest competition at our tournaments to improve.
I’ll still be able to play if it’s on the 2nd, but I’ll have to leave at around 5:30 and miss the food hookup. It’s not about me though, it’s about what’s best for the community
