Kansas City Drinking: We Have a Serious Fighting Game Problem

results thread

Alright guys, so following MAXOUT, I decided I wanted to light the competitive fires under our new blood that just entered the local Tekken circuit.

Traditionally, I always created tier lists to give people an idea of their skill level relative to the other local players. Unfortunately, I don’t have enough experience playing the new guys (and some of them don’t have much experience playing, period) So I want to have a Tekken hookup soon, featuring a battle royale. A round robin, where all the new players come and fight it out for their ranks.

In the past, we ACTUALLY had two Tekken setups at my old apartment.

The first setup, we called the ‘Big Kids Table’. This setup was in a large living, on a big screen TV, with plenty of room to sit and play, and a shorter line to wait. This setup was occupied by the O.G.'s who were our strongest players. There were typically about 5 of us in there.

The second setup, we called the ‘Little Kids Table’. This setup was in a small, cramped dining room, on a small table, on a small T.V. The wait was long, because sometimes up to 10-12 people had to rotate on it. The space was limited, and it was crowded and miserable for the people waiting.

After moving apartments, the idea was still in place, but only in theory, not in execution. Only two players survived to graduate to the Big Kids Table. That was Deron Byers, and Chris Riha.

This tournament would be my way of saying “Come at us, Bro.” The BKT will have 5 spots on it. These spots are currently occupied by Sean Green, Dave Wrigley, Deron Byers, Chris Riha, and myself. Being on the Big Kids Table is absolutely nothing but pride and bragging rights. People look to us for beatings in Tekken, as well as sage advice. Deron worked hard for over a year to climb from the spot of rank #20, to push all the way up to #2 by the time Tekken 6 finally died out. He should be an example to anyone who thinks success in this game is too lofty and difficult.

So, with this little bit of local history (not to even begin talking about our extensive journeys around the country) I invite people to fight it out for their chance at getting to the BKT.

New players in TTT:

Samson
Radian
Chef
Joe
AJ
Victor
Chachi
Gilgamesh
Conical

and anyone else I missed, or who is also interested in getting in on the TTT2 hype: This is your call to get practiced up, and come fight for your spot in the round robin.

I’ll put a date up as soon as I can figure out what works for everyone. Should be sometime in the next two weeks.

(For people who are waiting on BP4, stay tuned. I’ll announce brackets following Season’s Beatings.)

I see Chachi hopped online finally! I played some last night. Things are slowly coming back to me, finally getting my low/mid mixup working a little better. It’s tough with King/Wang, but I think I’m going to stay commited and try to make it work. Wang is basically all pokes, which works fairly well when you’re trying to bait someone into ducking a lot. Still trying to really hit my “stride” with King though =\

Anyone on the WTF team, if you can play a few matches this week, we should be able to hit lvl 5. The lvl 4 unlocks for the team emblem were awful (hearts and pink text that reads “Love”). Still looking for folks for the MidWest team!

I’m not sure how often I’ll be online. I had a couple of dropped connections at very inopportune times. I don’t know if it’s my modem or my PS3’s network adapter that’s shitting the bed. But I’ll try to get some more online in this week. shudders.

I set up my WTF account properly now (maybe) nickname is

Hmm…I’m pretty sure I sent you an invite (should see a notification on your profile tab I think?). Will resend right now! Hopefully that clears it up.

Edit: Yep, say’s I’ve already invited you. Look for a notification near your name on the right side of the site. Should be a number or something.

Dave- check your PM inbox.

When and where should we be on Thursday?

MGF - check your pm inbox

1 more day until we go out in strong fashion.

Yo, before Dave says anything, I accidentally DQ’d myself a round.
I was trying to change my Awesome Hype music and hit the bottom left corner of the Xbox and the disc tray opened.
Not the actual button itself but the corner. My opponent was cool and said it was alright, but I couldn’t accept that, I wanted to take that loss.

**[SIZE=13px]Whats up everyone, so wichita will be hosting a tournament on the 27th at battlestations gaming, this place is just like lazy day games was, hope you guys make it out since there will be some sweet prizes up for grabs.

Dave - Hey man, not like I had control. I scheduled off for this weeks ago, and my request was denied. Truly out of my hands. Believe me, I’m not thrilled about this at all.

MLG is in Dallas next month, and then NEC the month after that, so I’ll see about going to those instead. As for this month :

October 13th (this coming Saturday) I’m going to host an all day long hookup, since there’s no Maxout this month, and just do cheap side tournaments. Essentially a smaller scale local tournament, with no venue fee.
October 27th Wichita is doing an event I’d like to attend.

I’m down for a spot!

ehhhhhhhh I know im not a bum so…

If we get a hotel i’m assuming it’s for saturday night and heading back early sunday morning? if so count me in, let me know what majority of you guys wanna do

I got Chad’s sig in trouble. Bad times.
