Alright guys, so following MAXOUT, I decided I wanted to light the competitive fires under our new blood that just entered the local Tekken circuit.
Traditionally, I always created tier lists to give people an idea of their skill level relative to the other local players. Unfortunately, I don’t have enough experience playing the new guys (and some of them don’t have much experience playing, period) So I want to have a Tekken hookup soon, featuring a battle royale. A round robin, where all the new players come and fight it out for their ranks.
In the past, we ACTUALLY had two Tekken setups at my old apartment.
The first setup, we called the ‘Big Kids Table’. This setup was in a large living, on a big screen TV, with plenty of room to sit and play, and a shorter line to wait. This setup was occupied by the O.G.'s who were our strongest players. There were typically about 5 of us in there.
The second setup, we called the ‘Little Kids Table’. This setup was in a small, cramped dining room, on a small table, on a small T.V. The wait was long, because sometimes up to 10-12 people had to rotate on it. The space was limited, and it was crowded and miserable for the people waiting.
After moving apartments, the idea was still in place, but only in theory, not in execution. Only two players survived to graduate to the Big Kids Table. That was Deron Byers, and Chris Riha.
This tournament would be my way of saying “Come at us, Bro.” The BKT will have 5 spots on it. These spots are currently occupied by Sean Green, Dave Wrigley, Deron Byers, Chris Riha, and myself. Being on the Big Kids Table is absolutely nothing but pride and bragging rights. People look to us for beatings in Tekken, as well as sage advice. Deron worked hard for over a year to climb from the spot of rank #20, to push all the way up to #2 by the time Tekken 6 finally died out. He should be an example to anyone who thinks success in this game is too lofty and difficult.
So, with this little bit of local history (not to even begin talking about our extensive journeys around the country) I invite people to fight it out for their chance at getting to the BKT.
New players in TTT:
Samson
Radian
Chef
Joe
AJ
Victor
Chachi
Gilgamesh
Conical
and anyone else I missed, or who is also interested in getting in on the TTT2 hype: This is your call to get practiced up, and come fight for your spot in the round robin.
I’ll put a date up as soon as I can figure out what works for everyone. Should be sometime in the next two weeks.
(For people who are waiting on BP4, stay tuned. I’ll announce brackets following Season’s Beatings.)
