Kaimana RGB LED Board thread, RGB animations and more! SRK Tech Talk 2013 Product of the Year!

Does anyone have the codes for this and this?

Pretty sure those are in the newest code. Just upload it and you should be good.

? Newest code? Where? It wasn’t on the Kaimina when Jasen installed it just like, yesterday.

@Caganā€Œ

The Ryu animations can be found in all of the Kaimana sketches starting with the first iteration example sketch. I don’t have the links for the last versions posted by @ZonbiPanda or @wahoo747.

However, the first example sketch is downloadable at -

In the animations cpp file -

  • Hadouken - Line 77

  • Hurricane Kick - Line 205

Thanks. I’ll try it out.

So if I wanted to have Uilas hooked up to this board, what would the wiring be like?

Would it be something like:

Uilas -> Kaimana Adaptors -> Kaimana PCB -> Main PCB

?

Thanks.

I won’t have my stick until tomorrow but if you look here you can see a video Jasen took of my stick before packing it up. I’m happy with the idle color sway and the purple on hit but the animations are buggy. He told me he used the file in that first post so that’s why I’m a little concerned that it may be buggy. Also he told me that you can’t just copy / paste the main files. You have to index them, which I’m not sure how to do. You can, however, overwrite the animation file. Since the one he used (the one in that first post) is buggy does anyone have an updated animations file with the hadoken / hurricane kick that I can just copy over? I’m happy with the way everything else works. In the video you can see the hadoken comes out correctly (albeit not as well as the video that I linked previously) the first time but after that it comes up red with a green balltop. I’m all for christmas in my house but not on my stick :). He was doing it one handed so I’m not sure if he inputted things correctly, but the hurricane kick didn’t seem to work at all. If someone has an updated working animations file that I can use that would be great.

@Caganā€Œ

There are maybe a half dozen guys coding different scripts for the Kaimana so when you say ā€œLatestā€ it could be from any of these. Hard to tell from your videos but I think the rainbow idle animation is something that @armi0024ā€Œ had in his code which I took and modified further to customize my build. Most of the programmers kept that animation so it is difficult to say for sure who’s code you have installed.

You must remember this is an open source community project and why we have all of the flexibility in downloading our own colors and animations to the controller. I would never buy anything that had just one fixed animation and it’s why I continue to update my Kaimana colors and effects every couple of months as the games and seasons change.

When you get your stick installed, figure out what you want/need and I’m sure myself or one of the other active members here probably has the modules you need already coded.

I think you should look at the top level for the project at: https://github.com/armi0024/kaimana

Not sure why but a lot my and others code updates do not seem to be up there. I’ll pm @armi0024 and see about posting some of the new stuff.

Maybe another demo and some really simple code for beginners. Would that be useful?

@ZonbiPanda - From what I understand he is using 1 Kaimana…

ZonbiPanada: Some sort of tutorial would be good from someone who can ā€œteachā€ coding. I look at the code and its like ā€œduh, its doing thisā€ so I have a hard time explaining it to others because it seems so obvious to me :smiley:

When I built this stick I used the stock animations and recoded the index list to match how I wired it, didn’t take any animations away and ended up recoding a couple of lines (or 9) for button/balltop colors :smiley:

Quite possible I was using an older version of the code since yours isn’t up any more as you mentioned. I did notice that the animations only worked about 50% of the time. Once I get some more free time (after I get the rest of these orders out and dont get hit with 50 emails in a day from customers) I am going start digging into the code more and try and ā€œdemystifyā€ some things for ā€œnon-codersā€ā€¦ or try :wink:

Does anyone have a video of any animations other than hadoken and hurricane kick? Id’ be very interested to see what’s out there.

Sorry guys, we are back from Evo, thanks for holding the fort down.

@"Jasen Hicks"ā€Œ back, I spoke to @ZonbiPandaā€Œ and he created an updated file for @Caganā€Œ

I’m going to collect a few more of the indepedent programming set ups and put them for download in the new store.

@Cagan if you are still having problems let me know, we haven’t had any time since Thursday with Evo taking up 18 hours a day.

@armi0024 / @"Jasen Hicks"ā€Œ the last message from @Cagan said he was very happy and he was talking about adding additional custom animations to his new stick.

@liquidcourage and I are also swapping code and I will say that his code is so very different than both my old and new code. Lots of similarities and equal number of differences. It’s good to see everyone taking their own direction in customizations.

Anyone else working on custom code right now that wants to discuss ideas and swap arduino modules?

Yea I’m extremely happy with the code right now. My animations are beautiful and my idle color flow is synced perfectly from ball to buttons. Thank you so much zombie and Jasen. Here’s a video of it all working.

I’m curious about what most people do for their animations. Do they only have it working in one direction? For instance the initial code only has hadoken and hurricane kick working if you’re on the left side of the screen. What if you’re on the right side? Panda basically copied the animations and added them as new animations while changing the direction. Since I only play Ryu right now it works fine. Is there another way to do this? Or is that really it.

Also zombie has graciously offered to code some additional animations for me. When you and I spoke a while ago Bryan you had told me that you had a bunch of animations that weren’t uploaded yet. Do you think we could use those?

Thanks again to everyone involved. Also thanks to Bryan to making a kick ass product.

You LED guys may be able to help me with this: Absolute Question and Answer Thread (ASK YOUR QUESTIONS HERE!)

Any help I would really appreciate.

@Cagan - check out the PAS slip ring to help with twisting wires with ball top LEDs.

Don’t post the same bloody question in multiple threads

Would anybody be willing to help me write my own code? If anyone is interested, please PM me for details.

Thanks.
