Just wondering if anyone has hooked their Kaimana into there PC gaming rigs? I was building a new gaming machine last week and put an LED strip in it for a bit of bling, and i thought about it then?
We have put it into classic games, but not pc game rigsā¦
are you doing mame?
@armi0024ā
@armi0024ā not really a mame machine as such just general pc gaming. I was just curious as to what people might have done regards lighting their cases
I think it could be put in a PC case easily.
yeah iām sure it could be put to good use in a case, just wondered if anyone had done it already and what the results where like?
I just saw this, and wondering if this would work with the Kaimana board
NEOPIXEL DIFFUSED 8MM THROUGH-HOLE LEDs (5 pack)
Yes
anyone tried wiring up the āR1ā pad on the Kaimana Jās yet?
how does that work btw? also what do you guys suggest is the best way I can tap into the actual LED signals on the Jās, I dont have another Kaimana but have enough Jās for a stick, i just wanna make use of the LEDās on them.
Just got my board and got a cable to upload. Iām using the '13 oct release of the default sketch by Panda and Iāve got a problem thatās also occuring when I upload my own programming.
The P2 button is always lit when the button ālookingā for input that would actvate it lighting up. If I upload a sketch that doesnāt depend on a button press on P2, the LED functions as normal. As best I can tell the Kaimana board is always reading p2 as āLowā, AKA: pressed. I confirmed that with trying combo presses: I made a sketch where focus lit both buttons white. When not pressed P2 was the default purple Iād set (which was only supposed to happen when it was pressed). When I pressed K2 both buttons came up white (K2 should have come up red when pressed solo, white only when p2 was also pressed).
While itās lit itās the colour that the push calls for. It comes up random every time I boot the board with the Kaimana example sketch, for example.
Iāve checked the wiring, and it doesnāt seem to be the problem. The buttonās operating as normal when I play games with the stick and the wire leading to the Kaimana board is secure and correctly screwed down.
Does anyone have a way I can troubleshoot or fix this ish? Since itās happening with the default Kaimana sketch AND other sketches I write Iām kinda worried Iāve got something wrong with the hardware. Iām hoping itās something as simple as bad code though.
Any chance kaimana Js are still available?
Or even the 11 button sets?
The site says sold outā¦
Also, just so Iām clear, to use these kaimana J, I donāt need to modify my buttons right?
Thanks!
Wee bump with pictures of the board itself/x post from the paradise arcade thread. Iāve wrapped electrical tape around the exposed wires on the adaptor I rigged for the VCC bridge and that didnāt change anything so theyāre not shorting it out.

Hi all!
I received a bunch of parts (listed on page 5) from Paradise Arcade over two weeks ago and I have had some success hooking it up but the issue I am having is that all my buttons stay blue and wonāt change colours. There are no effects, just a solid blue light.
Parts ordered:
30mm Peles:
24mm Peles:
Adapter Boards (1 Per Button):
Pele Jumpers (1 Per Adapter Board):
Kaimana (get screw terminals):
Kaimana Harnesses can be found here. Use appropriate length for joystick spacing:

This is the first time Iāve modded anything so I took the time to use the resources available to me on these forums and through recommended links to educate myself as best I could. I have reached a point where I have decided I needed to consult professional help since I havenāt made any progress in figuring out what I did wrong. Hopefully my mistake is obvious to someone here.
Below is a link to my dropbox with a couple photos of how I wired up my HitBox.
I thought if it isnāt a wiring issue, maybe something happened to the sketch on the Kaimana PCB. So, I tried to re-upload the Master Kaimana sketch onto the PCB and I have been unsuccessful with that also. I first tried on my Mac and I kept getting error messages and it wouldnāt even begin to upload. When I tried uploading the same sketch using a PC the status would get to about 85%, stall for 3 mins and then display a different error message than when I tried it on my Mac (photos of both error messages can also be found in my dropbox link). I donāt know whatās going on.
Please help. Any help or advice anyone can give will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
@dochelixā everything is working except one button correct?
@Sambovt post a picture of your set up, it is odd that you have everything lit up only blue, that doesnāt sound correct. Do they automatically come on blue? or only after the board boots.
[s]@armi0024 Yeah. Itās not the buttons though. The buttons are functioning correctly and inputs from all buttons is functioning fine. Tested my stick in several games and all the pushes work.
Any LED I assign to P2 is the one that the Kaimana seems to always register as pressed. If I put P2ās assignment to LED 3, 3 always shows as pressed in any sketch I run that shows colour/depends on a button press. If I put 9, itās 9 that shows it, ect ect. It does this with my sketches and the kaimana/zombi showcase sketch with all the combos and idle animations.

MAJOR Edit: Well, this is embarrassing.
I did some better trouble shooting with the wires. Disconnected the button quick connects, left it plugged into the kaimana board. Button stayed lit.
Reconnected button quick connects.
Unscrewed Kaimana connection, button went dark. Unscrewed and inserted and then screwed down P3 weire into P2 slot. P2LED stayed dark, lit up when P3 was pressed.
Which means there was a problem with the P2 wiring. Which was confusing because the button was working.
Turns out I had the Kaimana wired into the ground wire for P2, and not the input. Iām kind of a newbie but I swore Iād checked that. Repeatedly. And I was wrong. The fact that the button was working fine was what stopped me from looking there in the first place, but thatās because this is my first time ever screwing around with the wiring.
So: PROBLEM RESOLVED. Thanks for putting up with my building anxiety. Your response inspired me to man up and do better troubleshooting which in turn helped me find the problem, which was with MY WIRING ;_;
Sorry for all that. Works fine now, from here on out itās just me learning even more code for more effects than āLights turn on and change colour with X Y Z buttons pressedā
Really wanna find a way to make them fade in and out smoothly. New project!
**@SamboVTā **I got that butterfly error a few times, and a lot of OTHER weird errors, like that PC error picture, when I didnāt have the right board selected in the arduino program. Do You have the Leonardo board selected as your board type? (Toolsā>Boardā> Arduino Leonardo)
Have you tried using a different USB cable and/or port on the computers?
It looks like something is wrong with the sketch⦠are they validating?
Update
I finally had a few hours last weekend to play around with the board and was able to successfully upload a sketch to the board. The board is good which I had thought. Iām just not sure why my LEDs would stay blue but I will redo my wiring and make sure there are no accidental connections being made.
Wow, very quick with the responses. Thanks everyone.
@armi0024ā
I have added new photos of my setup in my dropbox which can be found in the following link. My Peles glow solid blue whether I plug in my USB power cord connected to my PS360+ or my USB directly into my Kaimana.
Let me know if those photos are still unclear. Itās a bit messy since I just wanted to try to get it to work properly before I finalized the internal layout. I can redo the wiring neater and retake photos after that if necessary.
Iāll probably come back and order some shorter wire harnesses from Paradise Arcade in the future.
@dochelixā - ā@SamboVT I got that butterfly error a few times, and a lot of OTHER weird errors, like that PC error picture, when I didnāt have the right board selected in the arduino program. Do You have the Leonardo board selected as your board type? (Toolsā>Boardā> Arduino Leonardo)ā
*Yes, the āArduino Leonardoā board was the one I selected when trying to upload the sketch. Thank you for confirming that I was indeed using the correct board type. I couldnāt remember where I read that.
@ed1371ā
*I have not tried using a different USB cable but I am 100% confident that it is in working condition since I use it primarily for most of my other devices (hardrive, PS3). Itās a USB2.0 cable and I think it came with my PS3.
*I have tried using the two different ports on my Mac and I tried it on two more ports on my work PC. I was not able to do anything successfully on my Mac. The Arduino app on my Mac displayed errors and wouldnāt let me begin to upload the Master Kaimana sketch. When I tried uploading on the PC I was able to validate the Master Kaimana sketch but I was still unable to upload due to an error it occurred during upload.
I appreciate everyone taking the time to leave me a comment. Thanks again.
Hope you get it sorted soon @SamboVTā ! This is the first time Iāve ever done stick modding, so I canāt be much more help here. Def check all your wires and where they go/where theyāre supposed to go. Thatās what got me. Another common error with the upload is which COM youāre using.
Got my board to work though! Downside is I think I crushed one of the LEDs on the K1 button (I r Newb). Iāll have to re-order and replace it now that Iāve got everything sorted. Simple custom sketch here for button lighting and colour change. Iāll try something more impressive later!

Iām going to be adding a lit hoku balltop to it soon too. This is gonna be awesome looking.
@armi0024 Bryan, curious whether the Kaimana V2 will have additional storage capacity over the V1. I maxed out on the sketch size with multiple load outs (even after optimizing the code) and couldnāt fit everything I wanted to do on the board. Not sure if itās possible, since I think the size limit for Leonardo architecture is fixed.
Also, with the current V1 board, Iām looking to adding additional 3mm LEDs for side lighting the case (currently I have 9 buttons mapped). Is it possible to go over the 12 max button limit if I were to map multiple 3mm LEDS to remaining (non-action buttons)? The side-lighting would presumably run on an independent screen saver, separate from the main (action button) loadout.
Thanks in advance.

Quick question. Iām about to pick up a kaimana kit, and want to light up my stick as well. If I purchase the 5mm rgb led from http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/paradise-arcade-exclusive-products/556-rgb-5mm-led.htmlwill I need to purchase the resistors and hook them up to each wire? Or can I just wire it straight to the kaiamana without needing the resistors mentioned in the description?
