Just starting to get into kof series

I’ve been using Goro, Iori and Chris, but it isn’t set in stone.

whats the link to? is the answer to why you think 03 is better than 02 in there?

yeah i do believe i said IN MY OPIOION. but i do agree with you on the vanessa, i forgot all about her (it was late). but not on the choi or iori, i know people claim there good but honestly ive NEVER seen a good choi in any match vids.
shit just be glad i didnt say my fav char… ramon

Well if you went to the thread, you’ll see that it’s about some other person asking a similar question about how to get into the game. And there was some good info posted there…not as much info as that 100 page kof thread though, but that one is too hard to use for searching about a specific character.

As for not seeing a good Choi, that’s just insane…almost every Choi I’ve seen in every match video, beasts…have you watched the Japanese Supernova competition, or the Singapore match videos? It’s full of Chois.

Emil: i did go to the thread you posted, but i wasnt going to read an entire thread to find an answer to a single question (in regards to 03 being better than 02). Also i wasnt asking about how to get into the game, i’ve been into it for a while.

but anyway back to the choi. yeah honestly every choi i’ve seen gets beat down hard by vanessas, and kulas. but if you have links these vids your talking about post’em up, please. i love 02 vids.

I actually haven’t seen that many Kulas in high level matches, so if you have some, post them up. As for the matches I’m talking about, go to orochinagi:

The Singapore competition and Japanese Supernova.

I was thinking of Demitri’s EX in SvC as it had a similar input. My bad

Normal or Orochi Chris

choi is broken. the end.

Hey guys!

Is Mai any good? I use her and probably destroy with her, but I hear that she’s a whole to the corner dwellers.

…that went well.

She’s quite strong in '98. Dunno about 2002, but I remember Persona saying that she was one of the higher ups. Master her runaway and her aerial hijinx stuff (butt attack, knee attack, etc.) and you’ll be well on your way.

Normal Chris.

I thought that Iori was all about rushdown (atleast in 98), but in some vids he looks like he plays sometimes keeping the distance with fireballs and shoryukens for jumpers. When is it recommended to rushdown and when to keep away? And what combo that starts with a low hit should be used?

As for Goro (I haven’t seen him too much in the vids), what should I do? Try to be offensive and use his throws to mixup or play defensively and try to score a sweep and then use qcb+b, dp+a? What are other ways to land the qcb+b, dp+a? Is the df+c a reliable antiair?

With Chris, I’ve heard he’s hella good, anything special he has that I haven’t noticed? I know something about the j.CD and the slide (they’re really good), but he doesnt look that good. Tips for him?

lol how?

Hyper hop crossup C…Crouch Bx2, Far A, DM. Or just run-away all day if you want.

His punch throw in some games, as well. Ugh

poking -> hit confirm super, poke -> throw, poke -> overhead, and impossible to anti air among other things.

Goro is just stupid. just press sf. B all day. Then when you’re opponent gets angry press D, mix those two up for maximum effectiveness. Punish everything with throw or c.D -> qcb+B dp+A hcf+C. Combo that shit off hop D. I guess what I’m saying is stand back and force your opponent to make mistakes.

Daimon is a good character in 02, but not the BEAST he was in 03. The beast grappler in 02 is Orochi Yashiro…if you like grapplers, use him. He’s top-tier. As for non-grappler command characters, I suggest trying Seth. His strikes have good range, especially his CD which HAS MOMENTUM, meaning it can autoguard against strikes for a split second, then return fire by continuing the attack with the opponent defenseless. He has decent specials too. He’s got counters, although counter moves are a bit risky, especially in Seth’s case. His MAX Super is the shit though…7 Flash Torso Grab ftw.

Here, have some Seth combos.
Anywhere:

  1. C(1), f+B, f+A
  2. C(1)/D, b+A, hcb+K, f+B
  3. C(1)/D, b+A, qcf hcb+B
  4. C(1)/D, b+A, qcf+A(1), (S)qcf hcb+B(Buffer:qcb+B), qcfx2+P
  5. A/B, df+B, qcf+A(1), (S)qcf hcb+B(Buffer:qcb), qcfx2+P

Corner:

  1. d d+P(counter), hcb+B, qcfx2+P - 50%
  2. C(1)/D, b+A, hcb+K, qcfx2+P

Maxmode:

  1. C, f+A, BC, run D, f+A, qcf+A(1), (S)qcf hcb+B(Buffer:qcb+B), qcfx2+P

I thought O.Yash was worse in 2002 than in '98? And that Ramon was the best grappler in 2002?

Emil or some other KOF expert, care to clarify?

Ramon is better than O. Yash.

However, he’s not really a grappler. Not if you want to use him to his full potential.

o.yash is way worse in 02 than 98. In 98 it was max mode up, then 3 combos ggpo. he had stuff like sc.D f+A hcf+K (either B or D, one worked the other didn’t). for like 30% damage. his pokes I think were even more godly than they are in 02. And his hcf+P (the launcher one where you combo the unblockable afterwards) was too good.

in 02, his unblockable is an HSDM, which means you can’t use it (and by use, i mean the circumstances to use it are way too rare). His pokes are still strong. But overall, damage drop, comboability drop and move reduction = nerf. He’s ok, but nowhere near as beastly.

Ramon is fucking retarded in 02. All his pokes are excellent. And his comboability which is excellent as is only becomes more stupid when you start throwing in qcb+P cancels in there. Let’s not forget his mixup. c.C df+D qp+K for a fast meaty, fast low fast overhead 40% combo. Mixup with c.C dp+K for a fast meaty fast overhead mixup. throw in some qcb+P cancels, and ramon gets fucking stupid. He’s even got a retarded j.CD. All of a sudden Ramon is capable of pushing the rushdown with j.CD which beats 99% of all moves in the air.

It’s df+B, not df+D…and the df+B does not hit low if cancelled into, but the dp+K will still hit high. The C, df+B, qcb+C, repeat combo strings are hell though…since you can mixup so much. Let’s see, Crouch C, df+B, qcb+C, then either Crouch C/Sweep, df+B, qcb+P(repeat), or hyper hop crossup C into attack string, or run up and throw.

Edit: I’m not too sure of the many ways in which Orochi Yashiro is better in 98 than 2k2. He doesn’t have his D, f+A, hcf+K in 2k2, but the D, f+A, hcb f+P combo seems to do the same amount of damage. Also, he has max combos in 2k2 that he doesn’t in 98 (such as D, f+A, BC, run D, f+A, hcbx2+AC), so his damage potential actually seems higher. HIs pokes seem to be the same, except for his far CD, which I’d say is better in 98 than 2k2. He’s got the great anti-air jump D (which is great to use with vertical hops to stop any jumpin attempts), and his throw mixups are too good (in both games).
