I just picked it up today and I’m enjoying as I did as I first played it. However, after going through Lesson and Challenge Mode, it was rather confusing for me, so I do not know where to start. I have chosen three characters: Mitsuru, Yukiko, and Chie in that order. Because I’m not very familiar with 2D fighters, I would like to know what is the best character to start out with and comparisons/differences between them. Ultimately, knowing where to start is my first priority, characters second.
Posted here because I would get more feedback than the Persona thread, so please delete the one in the Persona thread.

Dustloop is probably the right place to start looking with regards to Arc System Works’ fighters, including P4A.

That said, for a short list of how I would recommend approaching the game…
[]Lesson Mode
[
]Everyone’s challenges 1-19.
[]Pick a character to focus on and go to training mode. Make sure you have your character’s special attack inputs down 100% of the time.
[
]Learn basic (non-CH, enemy standing*) combos for the following situations. Check your character’s subforum on Dustloop for what combos you should be doing.
[]Ground to ground poke
[
]Antiair (usually from 2B in Persona)
[]Air to Ground (enemy crouching here because you won’t likely land a jumpin any other way)
[
]Air to Air poke
[
]Play some matches. Get used to how to handle your character in neutral, taking stock of which pokes commonly land as CH. Try to confirm if your hits land on a standing or crouching enemy during these matches as well, even though you don’t know crouch hit combos yet. If you can, try and play against people of a similar skill level; this is less frustrating than playing against someone who decimates you easily.
[]Back to training mode. Learn CH/FC combos from the moves you are commonly counter-hitting with, as well as a basic ground to ground crouch hit combo if your character has one.
[
]Play more matches. Get used to applying your new combos.
[]Training mode. Learn situational (OMC, OMB, etc.) combos, more advanced mixup tricks, and whatever else you think will help your character’s gameplan. (Yukiko’s guaranteed unblockable setups, for example).
[
]Repeat 7-8 xN, enter tournaments for better experience.
:shake: What the? :shake:
Are you seri :shake:
No, just NO :shake:

Why would you recommend a character to me when I have stated that I use about three already? No offense, but you are no position to give advice at the moment.

I’m not being rude, I’m being honest. The post above yours basically said the same I said; your advice wasn’t helpful. You just suggested to learn a character for no reason other than the fact that he’s “good”. Every character in a fighter game is good in their own way, and you just recommended one I have no interest in using. Also, you’ve only played the game once, so you’re just as ignorant as me. I came here to receive knowledge from people who are more experienced than I am and know what they’re doing. If anyone’s here a complete twit, it’s you.

^^ Bah. Your response to his reply turned me off from saying much of anything to help you out and I’ve had the game since release date. When you title a thread “Where do I start?” you should expect posts to come in with character suggestions and the like since…you’re asking where to start.

Narcowski your post was pretty solid and has just about everything I did Day One, aside from going to Dustloop. I settled quickly on Labrys as my main with a crew of backups in Chie, Mitsuru, and Yukiko.

Was I too abrasive?

Considering this was in your initial post:

Yep.

Yu, to me and many, is essentially the Ryu of the game and offers balance in that he can do just about everything and teach you plenty as a beginner. I didn’t start with him initially, I think I ran through Challenges with Mits, Yu, then Labrys before I settled on her and her style of play. Its entirely up to you who/how you start out with and learn with…but my point in all this is…if you’re claiming to be a beginner and asking for some knowledge, even specifically asking which characters to look at, then complaining about the free advice that comes in, advice you don’t have to take…that’s ass.

Whenever I was referring to a character to start off with, I meant one of the three I have chosen. Whoever corrected his post most likely agreed with me. I was just straightforward, so I had no intention to even be antagonistic at all.

Next time, when someone trolls you, just hit the report button and let me deal with it.

Will do.

Just pick Mits-

Right. Well. You’re pretty much on the way to world domination.

Basic 2D fighter Plan.

 1. Pick Character
 2. Screw around. Learn AA’s and best pokes etc
 3. Basic Midscreen meterless combos
 4. Corner Combos
 5. Pressure Strings
 6. Freeform.

Since you’re playing Mitsuru you’re going to have an easier time. She’s a wrecking machine that has all round good matchups. Enjoy slamming Elizabeth.
