Juri Thread

I honestly think Cody will be up there quite a ways too. His options into ultra are good, they are pretty damaging as well. He has really good pressure and rock throw despite what looks to be a long start up has very little recovery. I saw a video of him going toe to toe with Ken in a firebal/rock battle, and kens Fireball is rumored to be faster too. His biggest weakness seems to be cross ups, something that Juri players (Ibuki and maybe Akuma as well due to vortex) will be able to exploit. I think he is going to be hell on people who generally rely on fireball zoning and grapplers.

I am not expert, I am not even that good, but I think Juri will be up there for a bit, though I see her dropping as people get used to her match up. Just my not pro opinion though.

Oh, I don’t think the 3S characters will be the only S-Tier characters, but I’m having a real hard time speculating how the rest of the cast is going to shift around due to tweaks and ultras. I think Cody will be at least A-Tier, but I’m also not an expert opinion by any stretch of the imagination, in fact I’m really pissed off at my lack of growth lately… Really pissed off.:annoy:

Edit: And yes, I totally support tier lists.

Chun is probably going to be one of the best, if not the best, character in the game. Her new ultra is going to give her immense comeback potential that was lacking in her first ultra. Coupled with her footsie, and you have a beast of a character.

As for the new characters… I think Dudley is the best due to his amazing combo ability and potential to link his Ultra in many situations. Ibuki has crazy potential to be a top contender due to her versatile moveset.

Just my two cents.

I agree. Chun I suspect will be a lot better, although Kikoshou doesn’t do a lot of damage it’s big, one hit means the rest hit you and it’s easy to combo into. Oh yeah it isn’t a charge move either!

Funny how Chun is a charge character that never felt much like one.

Back on topic though, although Dive Kick is essentially unsafe, the fact that it armor breaks makes it great! The two times I see focus come out most is when I jump in or on wake up, Pinwheel for wake up and dive kick for the jump in!

Better Ultra won’t whack Chun right up the tier list, it’ll certainly help but it won’t cover all her weaknesses and bad match-ups. Remember it’s damage is kinda sub-par.

I’m kinda surprised about Cody, didn’t think people would think he’s so good. Seemed kinda average to me. What are all these Ultra setups?

So Juri has 950 health, what about stun?

Well it’s not just the Ultra there was a piece on them modifying her normals too. Even with sub par Damage it’s a good enough chunck to bring her out of a bad situation. I don’t think she will skyrocket but I think she will be higher than she is now. Kens SA2 didn’t do much damage (I think it was two) in 3S but everyone used cause it was easy to combo into. Mind you you could use it multiple times a match…

Anyway I don’t know all the names of his moves, I’ll see if I can’t find the videos to link. I saw at least three different set ups, and I could be wrong on what they were exactly but I think the Tornado punch FADC was one, I think maybe the EX sliding kick was another (the one that hits high) and I can’t remember the third…

I don’t think Juri is one of the lowest, I think she is below average obviously but just about every female character has that kind of or lower health. Don’t both Akuma and Seth have lower, or at least Seth.

So, in your tought she won’t be an high tiers character ?

Damn, she’s so cool/sexy, she would deserve it…

Some speculate about Chun li as the best in SSF4, I have to disagree. Akuma Cody Dudley will probably be the best.

She has 950 health. More than Ibuki, more than Akuma, much more than Seth. Only 5% less than Ryu so not very low.

I was talking about her health being low. In my opinion she is good right now, but her specials seem to be pretty unsafe, and it’ll take someone who is really good at spacing to keep them safe, we a few of them anyway. Really it’s going to come down to her normals. If her pokes and footsies are really strong she will stay up there, but if they are average or below I think you will see her drop once people get used to her specials.

Juri’s going to have to turtle you guys, but she will be a beast at it. She can jump back and almost always be safe unless they have an air grab, using her dive kick to punish pursuits or run to safety, she is going to have to zone with fireballs, when she can clearly win any fireball war, and is going to have to rely on her Ultra II to do large punishing combos and as an AA. Juri won’t be the rushdown I hoped for it seems.

They still have that weird manly sounding effect when she does her fireball. I hope it’s Japanese only, because it’s very unattractive.

I dunno about that. Turtling won’t get her anywhere against fireball characters but versus characters that need to get in close it’ll be pretty tedious for them to get in on her. Having the option to turtle as well as rush down is quite nice, she just will have to pick her moments rather than rush down blindly.

You mean the “Ho~”, heh, find it kind of amusing. I’m leaning towards her Japanese voice ATM but she’s very vocal so I’ll still have to play on English to understand everything (even though the translation isn’t very accurate sometimes).

I actually watch Anime and this kinda of voice is common place for an evil female.

As for Juri, she looks like she will be able to both turtle and rush.
Some label her as a better rufus but i disagree with that.

But she does has some decent zoning tool in her fireball, Kaisen, dive and EX dick kick.

low fire ball going to be most like used on fireballs. She can’t win a fireball war but she can get in pretty good.

Pardon my ignorance is running turtling? I always saw the two to be a bit different. I am a bit less familiar with the nomenclature as I recently just started coming to SRK and learning all this stuff. Some I knew obviously, but others (like PJFC) I didn’t. Anyway, I always saw turtling as a lots of down backing with the occasional DP thrown in for a reversal. Runners, like Chun had good back dashes and of course Juri has her counter. And the ability to suddenly attack while retreating too! One of my favorites.

She CAN out turtle fireball charecters though, as she can absorb their fireball, store one, absorb another, and then release her own. Now, her low ones travel under Sagats and don’t trade with them, so she can absorb one of his and store a mid, absorb another, then shoot out a very quick mid and low. Now Sagat will be hit by a fireball, while Juri is still safe. If he shoots a low fireball, then Juri will hit him with two fireballs. Now, does her kick stop his EX fireballs? That’s a question I’d like to know, or what about Akuma’s 2 and 3 hit fireballs and Gouken’s 3 hit.

Wow, surprised at Juri probably not being high tier. Oh, well.

What’s stopping Sagat or whoever from just moving out of Juri’s fireball range? Sagat can shoot fireballs at her from the other side of the screen, while Juri may be able to cancel them all out with easy none of hers will be able to reach him unless she moves forward and thus showing some aggression and therefore isn’t turtling :stuck_out_tongue:

Think I’ve seen the Kick try to cancel an EX fireball and get hit but can’t be sure though, makes sense if it’d only be able to cancel since hit fireballs

I just want to make sure you both know what I’m talking about. This sound effect in this video.

I don’t think Sagat’s the type of character you wanna get in a fireball war with. He and Akuma are too good at that. She should be fine against everyone else though.

I think Juri is better than you some of you are giving her credit for. Alright, her pinwheel needs spacing to be safe on block. Big deal, don’t use it in a blockstring. How often do you see Ryu use DPs or Hurricane kicks in blockstrings? Never. What about Balrog’s unsafe rush punches? Gief’s green hands? See where I’m going with this? This is what hitconfirms are for. As well, the punishment window for her lk pinwheel is not huge. Yes you can get DP FADC ultra’d off it, but it’s not like you’re gonna get f+HP, cr.HP, HP Shoryuken FADC ultra’s for ridiculous damage.

She has slightly below average health. Pretty much anything that would kill her would kill Ryu as well. Keep in mind that very below average health didn’t stop Akuma from being top 3 in SF4. Since pretty much everyone’s damage has been nerfed, her’s is around or above average as far as link combos go. She has some pretty solid looking footsies, great zoning potential, fairly solid anti-airs, a reliable reversal that can be FADC’d, hit-confirmable ultra, a few shenanigans (cross over/under pinwheel, EX teleport) etc. etc. You gotta look at the whole picture, not just the negatives.

I think she’ll easily be in the top 10. Who can compete with her? From the old cast Rufus, Ryu, Balrog, Akuma, Chun and Seth look great. Everyone else either got huge nerfs to their game (Sagat, Gief), got tools that won’t make them much better or simply got nothing. From the new cast Cody, Dudley, Ibuki and arguably T.Hawk look good. Ya gotta look at the whole picture people, not just part of it.

Did anyone happen to take screenshots of the alt colours? Because the video links have all be taken down now and I wanna see more juri colours bawwwwwwwww.
