@LajinDaGreat - Pool assignments are being determined and should be posted tomorrow?

@L2P - Aside from the ST Pre-Reg, there will be signups Friday during the Pre-Reg event at ACME Bowl, and also during the emergency “Really Really LATE” registration on Saturday from 8am to 10am

Yo can we come play casuals if we didn’t register for the tourney?

Like pay a venue fee or something?

Is there going to be a spectators fee? I have a few friends who might want to come along with me this weekend, and we would like to know how much they should bring if there is going to be a fee.

FRIDAY NIGHT WELCOME PARTY
6pm - 9pm ACME Bowling

NWM4 Participants we are holding a Meet/Greet at ACME Bowl.
The space is pretty small though so come on down register (if you have not), pick up your badge, verify your registration and events, grab some pizza and then hit the bar!

ACME Bowl
100 Andover Park West
Tukwila, WA 98188
206.340.ACME

It will save you a lot of time on Saturday, as you will know what your start time is, and not have to show up until then, else you are standing in line at 8am with everyone who did not register on time.

We will have a couple of casual set ups to do some MMs on or get some last minute practice in.

Everyone can come on down, but the pizza is for registered NWM4 guests only.

No Spect Fee.
Can play Casuals.
Just can not enter any event except the SSF4 CPU event w/o paying the Registration Fee (which is $40 now since pre-reg is closed) (maybe entry to the VF5 event, but registered players have priority in all ways on that one since we have sponsors attached to it)

If anyone needs a ride I have room for one in my car, but I’m only staying the first day. I’m gonna leave around 10am tomorrow and plan on leaving later in the evening. If you come with me u should probably plan a ride back and a place to stay if you’re staying both days. PM me if want the spot I’ll stay up late tonight.

Seriously? Don’t even have the pools up for SC5 and MK9? I would have really liked to know what time I have to be there…

UMVC3 will be free for fchamp

There was a guy busking at the back of the tournament. Props to you, random guy.

I hope that there are some good credible reasons for why the stream was handled in such a poor manner. Day one started 2 hours late and had some of the most spaced out commentators I’ve seen. The one guy with the fauxhawk and the sonics jersey just sat there all day saying nothing, ThaiVega would “commentate” on Marvel by just going “OH OH OH OH OH GRAB OH OH” which is funny if you’re Yipes but not so much when being imitated.

The character CPU auction never happened on stream, I heard the 3rd stream for VF never materialzed, and the 2nd stream right now is not on, almost an hour late in starting the Mystery Tournament. Day 2 of the stream started with SFxT being on for maybe a total of 10 minutes before going down for 3 minutes, it did this for just about every match. The commentators for day 2 so far are good though, thank you for that.

I hope Khaos Gaming is learning a LOT about how to stream because this entire weekend has bothered me so much I’ve actually dragged my ass over here to copmlain like some spoiled manchild. I like donating to those who are streaming - I think that a $30 tip for a weekend of work is great, but I cannot even consider cracking open my PayPal wallet for this stream :(.

From the eating pizza on stream for 15 minutes, to hearing someone fight and complain that “I can’t commentate if I don’t like the guy”, to the stream operators not seeming to understand how to switch between different scenes or audio sources… it’s just a mess - this entire weekend is a mess. This stream is so jalopy it makes me really regret not going to the major in person to skip all this shit.

Please make fun of me for being such an entitled complainer, whining about a FREE STREAM;I deserve that much - but someone needs to list out all the shitty things this stream has run into (and I’ve blacked out a lot of terrible parts from my mind).

edit:
LordBBH please commentate more you were one of the only shining gems this weekend.

edit2:
None of the VF5 players made it on time so they moved streams from the secondary to the primary, now the schedule is all fucked up (AGAIN), nobody seems to have any communication on what is playing next, what needs to be done, what’s going on. So instead of having Super Turbo on right now they need to get VF5 going, but that will push the schedule back about 30 minutes (an hour with how long it takes TeamKhaos to set up). This also messes up the secondary stream, which should be covering the top 8 to top 4.

I don’t know what things KhaosGaming have streamed in the past but they need to get to some weekly casuals and Figure This Shit Out™ before attempting to stream any majors again.

edit3:
The stream chat managed to get thai vega off before he did too much damage.

Hey Dr. Gamez, I just want to say that I was the broadcaster running stream 2. Yesterday we ran late because of poor communication and a lack of personal. Three people running EVERYTHING for Top 8 today? How does that sound to you. I am unemployed after my I was discharged from the US Army in '08. I slowly save up and try to run this “job” that I want to do with no pay and a huge time sink that affects my family.

My wife and child supports me in this endeavor, and I couldn’t love them more for it. I approached Slash to stream Tekken and ended up streaming more than that. My equipment in total cost me less that $1K. I am glad to hear what you have to say. I have no professional experience with running Video capture devices, graphics, telebroadcasting, etc. Everything I make and do is self taught. I was in the communications branch in the army. I can make a mean Cat5 cable and run and wire shit like no tomorrow.

Today my HDMI to VGA converter totally bricked out and now it is done for. I know things didn’t go well but we need people like you, who make killer videos by the way, to help and run the show. The community is weak and lacks cooperation and communication. I have been saying that for a long time.

Thanks for watching and pointing out what went wrong. Next time, I am sure it will be better if we gather as a stronger force.

(Name/Account change been meaning to do for a while)

Sorry if my post came off mean, I was more frustrated with how the Northwest was being portrayed. In a way I feel better knowing all that was being put on by just one person - and even “thrown together” like this. When I was watching the stream that first day I was a little shocked that they picked this “stream team” to put on the Majors when they flubbed it as so. Knowing #2 was just one guy doing his best I can cut that a ton of slack. I was a little critical of the stream but I have to say Day 2 (after the weird delays, and the VF5 tournament being stuck on a drawbridge or something weird like that) went smoother than Day 1.

I want to help streaming but just like you I’ve never done it professionally, or even for a big major or anything like that. Is there some thread somewhere on SRK that discusses streaming setups or what’s being used? One of the biggest things that I noticed was rule #1 of the stream was: “NO TECH QUESTIONS.” If you were just running stream #2 I don’t think you really have control over this but I was wondering why the silence on the tech used to stream.

great tournament… had a lot of fun and met some cool people. I will come back for sure next year.

-Lando L2P

We are totally UNDER STAFFED. I have noticed that the NW as a whole just wants to play games and no one really wants to help and even if they do then they don’t, for the most part, follow up. I can literally count all the people that were dedicated to the event as a whole on both my hands, not counting the people who just wanted to run their “game”. Slash probably gets A LOT of tech questions and that statement is in place to mitigate the flood of questions. I cannot speak whole in full for him but that’s what I can gather. I also had to switch locations for my stream setup which is always a real bother, especially when I have to move an SUV full of equipment by myself.

I can definitely go over what I use:

[details=Spoiler] I use a mini tower Gigabtye GA-880GM-D2H AM3+ Micro ATX Motherboard, 420W PSU, Avermedia Game Broadcaster HD capture card, AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4Ghz, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, Blu-ray drive, 2TB 7200 RPM Western Digital HDD.

Microsoft HD Life Cam, Logitech C310 HD Webcam, Behringer 6 channel mixer, Audio Technica A1000 dynamic stage microphones, 4 channel Behringer Headphone Amp, Behringer 1/4’ Heaphones, HDMI to Component/VGA converter (POS died on me) to bypass HDCP, Monoprice 2 input 2 output HDMI Splitter and Switch. NO GRAPHICS CARD!

Xsplit Panel writer and Xsplit broadcaster.[/details]

Despite the T1 Internet connection I couldn’t not seem to get more than 800kps to twitch tv servers in CA. Everytime I would broadcast on 720p it would take hits like drunken sailor so I had to drop it down and I’m not a fan of stretching out video if I can avoid it. In the end I am not totally satisfied with my performance. Keep in mind that this is the 4th major. I bet there is a short list of people that tried something this ambitious on their 4th go around.

Go here to talk about and read about peoples successes and failures with streaming.

You know I’ve been idly trying to set up my own streaming solutions - because this stuff is really fun - and right now I’m using an HD PVR. I just started to tool around with XSplit, before I was using SFCH (never get that acronym right) and FME, but I didn’t have any real streaming presentation options (such as Wirecast and the like).

I’m going to possibly look into getting a Black Magic and a few HDMI>Component>VGA convertors. I’d like to be able to do this all with my laptop but the more I start adding on chains to this all the more I have to question if my laptop can do it. I don’t really want to build another machine just for streaming (just built 2 for personal use) but if it helps the NW scene I might be more than happy to.

(Also switching setups seems like it would be a huge pain to up and move an entire tower and octopus’ nest full of cables, my heart goes out to you there).

The tourny was dope! It was my first one and I got scrubbed up my first two games but I still had a blast. Said whattup to Ricky Ortiz and PR rog bumped into my friends foot. Those two events ( and the beautiful NOS girls) is more than enough to make me eager to go again next year. Thanks to all the people who ran the show

Thanks to everyone out there.

Now a few things I want to actually address with the event.

I agree, this weekend was not the most enjoyable one I’ve streamed, by far I already knew it was a giant cluster---- and I was getting ready to stab someone.

As far as your post goes GordonsBeard, I want to address a few things of what was going on

We ran into a huge scheduling problem that was essentially a fingers crossed moment. I pushed for a month for Highline to actually let us set up on Friday night, but unfortunately they said no and we were forced into a situation of having to set up everything Saturday morning around 8. And that is not fun when you have to set up 100+ foot of wiring and cross fingers that it would all work. A situation of “IF IT CAN GO WRONG, IT WILL GO WRONG”

The reasoning for the CPU auction not going down on stream? The person running it (YzaeB) didn’t feel up to running it Saturday so decided to say "We’ll just do it sunday because me and the guys (Other players) are tired and don’t want to do it tonight.
VF Stream on Day 1 - We had it going but then the circuit kept breaking and we were short power strips/extension cords so it came down to a matter of "Let them play VF or Let them play/stream VF and have the circuit break every 10 minutes.
And to address the matters with the SFxT, there was a problem with the net and we needed to call highline about the issue which they fortunately fixed.

Honestly, any complaint in my eyes is a good complaint. Good or bad, if you don’t like something and its something that I can fix, I’ll easily fix it. However there are times when if something happens, something happens.

The problem with the “audio source” and if I am guessing right, was the time between switching systems, that’s actually the capture card that goes out, if there is no video source, for some stupid reason there’s no audio. As far as the fighting and drama goes, That was actually A LOT of miscommunication, and I apologize about that. All I can really say is DRAMA DRAMA! Also, if you’re in the NW…WHY THE HELL WERE YOU NOT THERE?!

No real reason to make fun of/complain. People are going to list their complaints all day long. At least I don’t $*.** it up.

I agree

As far as the VF5:FS Players not being there on time, there were a lot of things things that contributed to that, and we had planned on running ST instead, but we weren’t actually able to get into the cabinet, so that was another problem. So the organizers decided it would be better to get the main stream going with the Mystery Game Grand finals, and then run with VF5:FS. There was a 30 minute lag in time, but we started busting everything out to get the schedule going in a timely fashion again.

Don’t question my resume. Do some looking around, look in the archives.

Stream chat didn’t. I did.

The TK name is just that, just a name. Something I randomly came up with on a 4 hour drive back from Seattle. There were a lot of f-ck ups that I even hate, and I contribute that to a lot of internal matters, and there were some planning hic-ups that prevented this from going as smoothly as NWM3 went in November. One being given a pinhole amount of time to setup and make sure everything was working.

Only 2 people were working streams this time. Myself, and ManOfTheLeaf. There is no magical team of 30 people working. Just 2. And we were both running around, trying to get games/expedite stream matches.

Like ManOfTheLeaf said, its a matter of that I’m not trying to address questions in chat, especially because A) Chat flys by so crazy it becomes impossible to follow up and what not, the other issue is that most of the time, its chat, it flys by so fast that its just easier to not worry about what people are saying unless it involves a sync issue, like the Main Stream was during VF. Anyone who knows me knows if you have a question just ask, but there are plenty of resources on SRK as well

This pretty much is what I felt the entire weekend. I didn’t go because I was late to get my shit together so I decided I’d just skip it. My self loathing for missing it plus the stream was just making me regret the decision two fold. Once again sorry for being so rude, didn’t mean to call into question your resume - from the other posts before yours it seems like a lot of NWM was just handled funny and a lot of things were outside your fingertips.

I wrote that post during the start of Day 2 and I have to say the rest of Day 2 went fine, dare I say good!

And this is what I apologize for, I was under the assumption you guys had weeks to get this all figured out, a full day to have it all set up, and had a team of a dozen people working on it etc, etc. Knowing it was just you two I cannot imagine how you dealt with it all, did you even get to see any of the matches? This has to be a special level of hell (especially given your short setup time).

I guess I still owe you a huge thanks for the stream though, even with the hiccups if you weren’t there we wouldn’t HAVE a stream to bitch about, haha.

lol @ complaing about a stream… GO TO TOURNAMENTS

Yeah this is why I tried not to get too inflammatory - I’m sitting here with the skills and knowledge to help run the stream and I’m just tossing complaints from the comfort of my own chair instead of HELPING. :frowning: I plan on doing more helping.
