After playing against Dudley (actual good ones too) I think the matchup is even. He has no way out of pressure if Cammy gets in except for EX Upper, and if he wants to be safe that makes him use 2 more meter. If he doesn’t have meter he has to guess to get out, not only that but he gets zoned pretty hard. He has the duck, but even that has its flaws. If he gets in though, that’s when it starts to hurt, but against Cammy she has an easier time getting out.
I agree on the Chun matchup. She just dies if Cammy gets, and once again, meter plays an important part in this, but Chun would probably want to save meter for EX legs into Ultra 2, and I agree with you Stein with the Ryu and Ken matchup.
Also, the Gief matchup isn’t that bad anymore for Cammy. Actually, I wouldn’t put it past her to have that matchup at 6-4 Cammy. Gief has an extremely hard time getting in on Cammy with her CSpike, S Far RH, and (from what I’ve learned recently) Cr. HP.
someone else will need to post detailed info on the cross-up strike where rufus u2 only hits 1 time then drops you, i believe it’s the mk strike cross-up after a arrow knockdown but i’m not 100% positive on that and don’t want to give false info.
the others are primarily set up off a back throw (or hooligan since that’s a back-throw as well) to safe jump you take a step back then jump in with rh, buffer u2 and then hit fp as you land, it should force him to block or backdash (his backdash isn’t that great though and you should prolly stop him from doing that first if he likes to do that, just option select a arrow instead of u2). or off the back throw you pause about 1 second, dash in and then tkcs and buffer u2, rufus’ ex messiah starts up so slow that if he uses it you recover and can pop out u2 before his first hit.
now, the jump-in is a safe-jump option select setup that works against more reversals because only a 3-frame move can beat it, the tkcs safe setup only works on things 5+ frames of start-up because it has more recovery on it.
list is broken, a lot of the matchup numbers are off and honestly looking at how the character fares against all matchups is rather skewed - I don’t think anyone is going to argue that cammy is a better tournament character than rufus, because her bad matchups are against all the tournament-level characters, and (if anything) she’s just stronger against mid/low tier.
I like that tier list. Reminds me of warm biscuits in the morning… ummm. I was sure Cammy had a slight edge over Rufus vs. most of the cast (and she is damned good too), I thought she was under-appreciated at first. Rufus the best in the game? Naw, I new that was a world-wide typo lol, just lol. He’s good, but not that good. I’m concerned about Honda, I do struggle with that match-up more then I think I should. But Honda seems to be lacking something to be that dang good. Still the damage is there, so this might (big might) be right.
I’m liking top-tier Chun, I wish I had a stick so I could dedicate more time to her. She is very versatile no doubt, and I huge threat with meter + U2. So many ways to still the match with that, scary indeed. (If I’m reading the list correctly, Chun wins 6-4 vs. Cammy, which seems right to me, Chuns c. LK and c. LP + lighting kicks and various keep out tools are a problem for Cammy who has to get in to do damage. Plus Chuns good back-dash and focus spammage can escape pressure from Cammy.
i’m not sure i could agree to that, at best for chun i could see 5-5, her backdash can be caught by option selects and i don’t think her focus is that bad in the match. and while yes she is good at keeping cammy from starting her pressure game, she has very few options to make it stop once it has started, she has to use meter for a get off me move, and even then cammy can easily bait it, stuff it or safe-jump it all ending in chun being knocked down. and if cammy can get in early before chun has meter? oh might as well just put the sticks down for that round because chun is kinda fucked.
edit: just saw your post bokkin and that is correct, i just avoid using the safe tkcs off a arrow knockdown because if you try to option select there and they don’t quick-stand your in for pain, but if you just used plain old safe-jump without an option select it’s still pretty strong.
Cammy vs. Guile is the best example of your point. People win tournaments with Ryu cause he has no horrible matchups and is fairly even against all the cast. Guile is fierce in SSF4, a popular character both inside and outside tournaments, and Cammy sweats blood trying to break him.
You know, I’ve always bitched about turtle/charge characters since day 1, and how playing defensively (read: like a bitch) seems to dominate. But at the same time I’ve thought, maybe I just need to step my game up. Be a little more patient, get better at opening people up, etc.
Then, the new tier list comes out… Top 5: Chun-Li, Honda, Bison, Guile, Balrog.
Yeah, I can’t wait for a fighting game to come out that encourages fighting. Super Turtle Fighter 4 isn’t cutting the mustard these days.
GYT has a new tier list out, based not on match ups but purely on tournament results, with weightings favoring quality wins over sheer number (thus why Ryu is ranked second despite having a sub 500 overal win percentage). The rankings are fairly different from the match up tier rankings, with dhalsim being number 1 and chun-li not even making top 10 (a bit surprising considering how many chun-li’s placed high at evo 2010), but Cammy finds herself almost in the exact same spot, ranked 7th overall.
In an almost insulting manner the guy who made the list seems to suggest that, though he’s doing his best not to cherry pick results and thus have the fairest ranking possible, he himself doesn’t necessarily agree with some of the results, his example being that his results have Sagat 21st and Cammy 7th despite the fact he feels Sagat is better then Cammy. Oh no he didn’t.
But really though, this was kind of surprising to me, I don’t know if this is because he included the gods garden results and weighted them heavily, but out side of god’s garden I haven’t really seen a Cammy player go deep into any major tournament. Anyone know of any other tournaments where Cammy players have had success? I guess his comments do suggest that even with Sako’s win the common perception still remains that Cammy really isn’t a very good character, but that may be a good thing for those who don’t want her being too heavily played, as well as if the coming arcade release brings with it new balance changes for the existing cast as that could see her get nerfed if she’s believed to be one of the top characters.
For the record you can find the GYT tier listing: HERE
GYT is Southern California based, so I’d assume most LA tournaments are being covered… Faux? Jchensor? How’re you guys doing in tournaments? I think he does the EMP tournaments as well, so AuLord’s been helping out with the stats.
I usually go to local tournaments, when they are near west LA, so far my stats for locals are pretty good, I usually make top 8 in locals with a caveat. It depends on how many and/or when I get matched up against good M.Bison players (such as Hugo101), I have a mental block against good rush down/lockdown M.Bison players (I get raped by that style of M.Bison, piss me off, I rather fight Honda/Boxer/Guile over M.Bison. The last local I went to I got P’ed on by M.Bison player)…
I also noticed that shotos players in offline tournies play a lot more conservatively than online (online tactics don’t work, haha), so this makes my Cammy rush down and tick throw far more effective than online. IMHO, Cammy is way more scarier off line than online.
