Bought a used 360 TE from someone. I didn’t notice this until after an hour or so of playing (didn’t even notice this during testing when I picked up the stick), but the joystick inputs “stick” sometimes (not every time) - if I hold a direction and then move the joystick to neutral, my character will still hold that direction for a fraction of a second before going neutral themselves.
I’ve replaced buttons and gates on my other TE, but I don’t have much experience modifying the joystick itself or how it really works. What am I looking at replacing here? is this something I can pretty easily do on my own with online guides, or should I be looking at finding a local modder for help?
As a side question, does anyone have any opinions on Sanwa vs. Seimitsu sticks? I’ll be putting Seimitsu buttons in this stick, but I’m not sure how Seimitsu joysticks are supposed to compare.
Thanks for your help, folks

The LS/DP/RS Switch is not set to LS is it?
Put back to DP.
I’ve experienced something like this before, and I don’t know if you really need to replace anything. First listen to good ol’ ^jdm714^.
Maybe the lubricant between the white pivot and the main body of the joystick is probably just gummed up with dirt, grime, dead skin cells, you name it! The dust washer can only keep so much out. I’m willing to bet that all it needs is a washing and some new grease to operate more smoothly. This can be done by popping of the gate, removing the e-clip, spring, etc. and unscrewing it from the mounting plate. Clean the parts well with warm, soapy water and thoroughly dry it. Obviously, don’t clean the JLF PCB with water! Just dust off the microswitches, since those can also accumulate dust over time. Lastly apply some silicone grease (I’ve been using DANCO silicone grease which can be found at Home Depot or someplace similar) and reassemble!
This should work or at least help the situation. If not, then you may be having some problems with the electronics. This is where I can’t really help, because I can look at a PCB…and I really don’t know what’s going with how the connections work and stuff. lol Maybe make sure the wire harness is securely connected and always try to keep anything clean. Otherwise, you’re looking at having to replace the JLF, which will run you about twenty bucks.
I hear the Seimitsu joysticks are pretty good. Typically, the LS-32 joystick is considered a fair competitor to Sanwa’s JLF, especially if you’re playing fighters. I think the main differences are in the spring, and the microswitches are activated with a tab. You’ll never know what you really like till you try it yourself! I personally like the feel with the JLF for fighters and perhaps would be willing to try a Seimitsu stick for other games such as shmups. I heard good things about the newer LS-58, but I’m not sure if it’s compatible with the TE.
Hope this helps!

I’ll double check this when I get home, I’ll be pretty embarrassed if that’s all it is. Thanks!
I guess it would be something like that, since I never personally owned (or even seen in real life) a TE. I’m embarrassed I’ve been upstaged by three godly modders. haha jk
Don’t let the awesome guide of NurseJoy go to waste, save it and do regularly manteinance to your arcade stick
There isn’t that much regular maintenance you actually need on a stick.
Keep the stick in a cool, dry place. Keep out of direct sun light. Do not drop your stick. And do not spill and fluids on your stick or submerse in any liquids.
You do not need to regularly lube or clean and replace lube in the joystick. Unless you are very filthy or had the stick for decades, it is unlikely that a sufficient amount of dust, dirt and dead skin can get inside and foul the lubricant inside. The Dust washer is there for that reason and it does the job well.
Also the grade of plastics used by Sanwa and Seimtsu lends very well to the small amount of lubricant needed for the stick, as you only need to apply a pea sized amount only once during construction, and most sticks are pre-lubed.
This is the solution
NurseJoy rides her joysticks hard…
Darksakul is right in saying “regular” maintenace is not necessary. However, even riding the gate hard when playing will shave itty bitty pieces of plastic off the actuator and that’s the stuff that generally interferes with the lube. You can see this develop over time. Of course, you should only need to open your case and do the cleaning if you suspect the sticking to be a hardware issue with these parts and not a simple button switch. I play with a Mayflash PCB with a JLF in a TEK case and 6 months of riding the gate hard caused some initial sticking for me. Took it apart and the lube was blackened with plastic powder! Cleaning it solved the problem. Learning to make movements more precise without riding could probably eliminate the shaving completely. Kinda hard to do that with charge characters though. lol
