Joystick for Vita working youtube video

has anyone tried just hooking a ps3 stick directly to the vita w/ the appropriate USB adapter? really looking forward to seeing how this works, as soon as someone can confirm how it works I’m going to buy this thing.

NO.

Owning the Vita I can say now there is no direct place for a USB port. The Port the Vita Charge/data synch cable plugs into is not a USB port but a design proprietor to the Vita. Second the Vita does not appear to have USB hosting capabilities.

If it can be done, it has to be done Via Bluetooth, that is assuming U MvC 3 has the ability to use a Bluetooth controller.

As Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 is a Cross play title (Vita and PS3 owners can play each other) I am wondering if the Vita is set to Cross play with the PS3 and the Arcade stick is set to the player on the PS3. I want to call shenanigans on this You Tube poop

What if we added in a USB-A-female-to-USB-A-female coupler, and plugged in the stock USB data/charging cable to it on one side, and a USB stick on the other?
I have a Vita and USB sticks, but I have no f-f coupler to see what happens.

I wonder about calling shenanigans on the Vita stick, though; considering the other mods the guy has done for other consoles, specifically the 3DS mods; it’d be a pretty bad kick-in-the-balls to his readers/followers if the Vita stick was just synched to a PS3 that’s off-screen playing UMvC3 on Cross Play… but that’s just what I think.

ah well, I don’t have a problem dropping 2 bucks for a male b/female a adapter (I have a cthulu pcb which comes with a usb b port standard) and a female a/female a coupler. I’ve got one of each on the way (supposed to be in tuesday from amazon.com) and I’ll confirm 100% that it doesn’t work. Considering the charge cable (half of which is a standard usb connection) is also the data xfer cable It has to have I/O at the very minimum and I’m not gonna be heartbroken if it doesn’t work. Everything I’ve seen/read/heard so far says that the bluetooth only accepts audio and people have tried connecting PS3 controller and come up with nil so I don’t think that has anything to do with it. The switches on the front of his stick only seem to be standard turbo switches so I’m not sure why everyone jumped immediately to bluetooth.

If it was cross play trolling then it would be an online match but there’s no titles at the top of the of the screen which says training mode to me. I don’t know of any way to use the vita as a remote display for the PS3, which would be the only other way to cheat in that case. I have to agree with freedom, though, this guy is a pretty serious modder, I find it hard to believe he would waste time putting up troll vids. Since he says the stick is removable I’m guessing there’s not any vita hardware modding going on. So unless someone happens to have the adapter lying around the house or has a nice obscure tech store nearby I’ll be back on tuesday.

quick edit: Before someone comes back with remote play derp derp. I personally verfified that you can not start UMVC3 on the PS3 through remote play on the vita. It also makes a point of saying you must use the controls on the remote play unit during remote play so that’s 2 strikes to that theory.

Not looking like remote play. Not looking like a USB adapter.

It’s hard to say from the picture. It’s possible those red wires are a stripped charge cable. It looks like a wide black plastic adapter that’s sitting right under the vita so maybe (fingers crossed) that’s the business end of the charge cable. Past that the only thing I’m seeing in that pic is maybe some red wires patching into (and they might not even be patched, they might just be sitting on top of it) the sticks PCB and I’d guess the board for the button themselves.

Looks like the other webhost didn’t like use linking to them so lets try this one.

From that picture, I’d say this is similar to what he did with the 3DS: made some connections exit from the lower-left end of the system, and have a plug that can connect there.
That area right there on a Vita is the system’s barcode, and there’s an empty space in that region in the stand/cradle to allow for a connector port there.

So yes, like his 3DS stick, it’s removable and all; but will require you to probably open up, solder plenty, and dremel out a hole for the connector.

From owning a Vita I can tell you now, that isn’t where the charge cable goes. The Charge cable plugs in the middle
That looks like a mod, where someone added a header connection and wired the header to the controls of the vita.

I have a vita and I’m well aware where the charge cable plugs in… You’ll notice I said ‘sitting under the vita’, as in, not actually attached to anything. It looks to me like that’s the end of a connecter at something like a 45 degree angle which is why I don’t think anything is attached in this picture (There’s def. a little bit of free space at that point on the vita but not enough that you could connect something at an angle). If you go through and look at the teasers for all of his other mods he seems to like showing off the times where he’s cracking something open for hard mods so I don’t see why he would suddenly be coy about this one. Cant wait for some scans from the magazine already (I’m not crazy fluent or anything but I know enough japanese to muddle through translations if we need a hand with that.) Considering the vita has an accessory port I find it a little hard to believe the only option is serious hard modding and hopefully that isn’t the case here.

For anyone that hasn’t gotten a chance to look at a Vita breakdown, ifixit.com has a really good one here: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/PlayStation-Vita-Teardown/7872/1. I have some of the pics that are a bit more specific to our discussion in the spoiler.

Sony should have allowed the ps3 controller sync with the Vita like the PSP go.

It has Bluetooth already, all it takes for controller sync is a firmware update and maybe a coupler for the USB connection.

I rationalizing that the location of the header is a custom mod is all, similar to how people installed a header for PSP stick use.
There is some expansion or access port at the top of the system, next to the game card slot that I have no idea what it does.

It would be great if we could sync our controllers via bluetooth. I have a feeling Sony will issue a firmware update to allow it though.
I would get an AXISdapter+SIXAXIS PCB inside of a mini custom just for the PS Vita!

sick

Not that it’s any surprise, but you get nothing from connecting a ps3 stick directly to the vita via a female/female coupler and the charge cable. Any word on how long it’s going to take for someone to get a copy of GLABO in?

Guys, if you get a USB-A female to USB-A female connector it won’t work. That’s not how USB works. Devices can only connect to hosts and vice versa. To do USB-A to USB-A between two hosts you would need special hardware capable of being a device bridge for that specific hardware.

Honestly unless someone approaches with a actual guide how this shit is done, all we have is speculation.
Meaning unless you can reproduce the results yourself, all theories are not proven.

It said enough times that there is no female to female adapter used to hook a existing stick to the PS Vita’s data/charge port.
And that is assuming the Vita can function as a USB host, and the host has drivers to run a USB controller.

For those who say a mobile device can’t be a host is wrong, as its the Vita not the PS3 or PC that does all the file transfer. But Host more via content manager is restricted to file transfer as of right now. Keep in mind PS Vita Content manager app must be installed before use on Windows/ Mac OSX

Bluetooth would not work as Sony pointed out Six axis will not work on the Vita (at this time)

Unless someone can get an actual guide, I recommend this thread gets locked as it is contributing NOTHING OF VALUE

SOMETHING OF VALUE

So it is a modded PSV.

Thanks noodalls, at least we know, even if it is a bit of a let down.

Yeah, thx for the upload. Guess we just gotta wait until madcatz puts out the stick fingers crossed and gut it…
