Joon didnt ask for this... I made it because I found the match worthy... (theres more than “player-skill” involved here!) The match is just hella-entertaining and nail-biting and almost historic… I cant recall any match thats had a similar outcome in any game lol… And the fact that hes being called "Chun B" is already bad enough... Joon deserves the recognition... Besides its not like the Ken board is overflooded with vids -_- noone plays Ken at tourneys

Joon, what a hype match - maybe the hypest I’ve ever seen in SFIV. I would have done the exact same thing! 2 questions though. Just shows that Ken has amazing comeback potential in this game.

also shout outs to bowflexmike your ken was doing good in money matches. next year i’m so going to get a room for NCR would have been much more fun if i didn’t have to leave day one and could watch day 2 on something other than stream.

So every other thread in the Ken forum deserves a place, but not this? I’ve been trying not to promote myself with that match with Marn but what you just said WAS offensive.

NCR is the biggest Tournament in California held only once a year. It’s “nothing special” really that I pulled this off in front of 5000+ stream viewers and a room full of game enthusiasts.

I respect Marn as a player and a person. I’m assuming you’re close with him, but even you have to admit this match was crazy.

I think this section is not really organized, so dont think I feel like every thread deserves a place.
The match is fun to watch, and good for you, but what I’m saying it that we didn’t see any new or dominant ken technique. Ken wise, we didn’t learn anything. Ive come backed 1 game against Marn as well, so what… get a set.
Also, being able to cope with the pressure of a tournament isnt something we should congratulate you for.
This is an essential skill which is your responsibility to learn. I dont applaud that cause it should be default.

Its just steady Ken gameplay, which is hard to maintain yeah, but I can’t call you a beast based on that, let alone make a whole thread at it.

Marn was here in Austin a couple of weeks back, and he does NOT miss links when he’s playing serious.
That, and the “epicness” that yall are talking about is just a bunch of screw ups by both players.
Both letting go the kill was really hillarious.

um… i hate to break this to you, but marn drops combo’s all the time. not saying he is ass or anything, but to say he never misses his links is just false, i have seen him whiff them on streams at tournaments, i have seen him whiff some a fuddruckers earlier this year, and i saw him miss some during money matches at NCR (shout outs to room 334? i think it was 334. whatevah).

Joon sick shit. This DOES deserve a thread… I don’t remember the last time I saw Ken do something special in a tournament besides maybe Dr. Chaos.

I wouldn’t have taunted in the same situation… You wasted you’re dizzy and almost threw the match because of this and that would have been fucking stupid. I would have given the respect to Marn and just finished his ass especially with a sick fluid comeback like that… to each his own I guess.

I think you’re looking into this far too much. Saying the guy is a beast is really just a compliment with nothing else attached to it. Are you honestly afraid that because of this thread, the Ken metagame will evolve into staging comebacks and taunting during stuns? All in all they both put on a good show and that’s what this thread is about.

Ken is actually a pretty good character this run through, so nobody should be surprised if he starts to show up more as opposed to fade away (sf4). Good comeback. People should enjoy the video and everyone already knows people throws words like “BEAST” and “INSANE” around way too much nowadays, so I see no problem really in using it. It basically is synonymous with “good job, you play better than I do” now. And there isn’t much else to post in a large portion of the old sf4 character threads right now anyway, so why not have a random thread showing a nice comeback at a big event against someone who is considered (mostly) as a top player. Rename the thread to be something about a cautionary tale on taunting, post it in the Saikyo noob forum and it would work even better. Though I know its uplifting for ken players that felt shafted going from 3S to sf4 to see any ken win anything, so its fine where it is as well.

Fun little ending, but I do see where J.D is coming from in the fact that I had a hard time completely enjoying the match seeing Marn miss SO many combos/chances/etc. He had at least 3 high hk come out instead of burn kicks, missed at least 3 match changing links, and basically played really sloppy. It basically felt at times more like it was one character mopping up the other opponents execution mistakes then working them… kinda like seeing an akuma constantly whiff the srk after a tatsu and getting punished.

That being said, he got his just desserts for that taunt and I was glad you won…lol. Good game, and regardless of his mistakes and the taunt and what not… it still takes a good round to come back from about 10% life and win. Someone should tell Marn to land an FA and THEN taunt… next time Marn… next time.

It wasn’t a casual match nor was it online so if he was missing links that’s his own problem. He lost and that’s all, keep the excuses. I think it is stupid when people try to come up with excuses as to why they lost and here we have people trying to come up with excuses for someone else. Marn didn’t give Joon anything, did Marn put down his stick and walk away? No he fucked up and got punished for it. Joon took the win and as such he earned it.

How many times have you lost a match cause you spent the entire round trying to land that flashy combo, or do that tactic you saw???

You have to be aware that your priority is to make sure that your opponent?s life bar reaches zero.

Correct me if I’m wrong but a good way of doing that is playing solid. It’s not all about flash but it is all about winning.

Everyone calls Daigo a beast and he is a beast. What does he do in his matches other than play solid? He doesn’t drop links and he doesn’t let his opponents get away with anything. He doesn’t do anything special most matches, he just knows what to do and when to do it. Is he not a beast?
