Sometimes I wonder if Japan even knows how to draw black people well.

he looks black to me. alot of black people straightened out there hair back then.
Yeah… it has less to do with his hair and more to do with the structure of his whole face. He’s got fuller lips but the rest of his features don’t look particularly black.

im not exactly sure what you were looking for…he looks perfectly fine. this is japanese anime…anything thats not a 1920’s charicature is good and for a black person araki, kubo and ohgreat draw black people just fine. oh-great particularly.
but the juggalo specifically said the black hair…being that he’s well a juggalo…imma go on a limb here and say he’s white and doesnt know we didnt always do just fro’s and fades.
I was referring to Smokey’s hairstyle being drastically different from his manga counterpart. I remember him having very short, curly hair. Now, his hair appears to be straight and he’s sporting a braided ponytail, which I REALLY don’t remember. His facial features are fine (and thankfully, non-offensive), it’s just that his hair doesn’t match the rest of his look.
Oh, and BTW, I’m black. 
EDIT Just so you know, my initial reaction to Smokey’s look was based on the quick glimpse we got of him in the preview. I have seen the whole episode and, after getting a good look at him, I see that he does have the prominent facial features denoting a black person. Though I still find it strange that they gave him such a wildly different hairstyle for the anime.
