FUCKING HUGE WALL OF TEXT

Yeah this whole shitshow a lot of us saw coming. I had no intention of going to Revelations but after learning a number of my friends were going some of which didn’t know the past of TL were going I started to pay attention. In the weeks leading up I told those who didn’t know the story about triple threat, team hori, and TL not paying their staff and tournament winners, but people wanted to go still. At the last minute i decided to visit to see if there was even a remote chance these people would redeem themselves, but as we all saw they’ve failed.

From top to bottom every aspect of this event was a primary case study for the perfect storm of incompetence and shadiness. The disappearance of the “guaranteed” pot bonus, lack of setups, and complete disorganization was of no surprise to me after what happened at Triple Threat. See what happened at triple threat here.

When i came to the venue this morning the Answer told me about the pot situation. He said in short that when he asked for them for proof that they have the money that will be paid out, that TL’s best response was don’t worry about it. At that point all the KOF players there at the time voted and agreed to a boycott to the event. As more players came in we told them the situation and everyone I know of agreed to the boycott. A number of us were able to get our money back but i don’t know if everyone was able to since i left instead of sticking around.

Also I’ll add that I’m fairly certain The Ponder’s and Mr. Wizard are well aware of John Nelson. I overheard a conversation about him at Evo 2011 and them adding him to the banned TO’s list. I think the complete lack of coverage for this tournament on SRK’s front page is evidence of some form of banishment.

I am a good friend of Paul’s and worked for BrokenTier that year when I went to Revelations with him. While I am only Kugler’s friend and am not officially affiliated with BrokenTier (meaning my words do not reflect their opinions/thoughts/whatever), I can pretty much attest to this. Shirts were made for Revelations, and despite prior warnings to John Nelson on how the designs would turn out based on what he wanted, the Revelations shirts came out looking like shit. On top of that, they didn’t sell well because Nelson probably gave away 80-90% of them to staff/friends/Team HORI, which meant BrokenTier lost money on those shirts. I am unsure if Nelson ever reimbursed BrokenTier for the loss, but probably not. The guy is an idiot. Furthermore, sales were less than what was hoped for due to empty promises on how many people would show up. We were also fucking pissed off that the venue sucked so much dick. Revelations was held at The Proud Bird that year, which was two miles away from the hotel. That meant we were stuck at the venue for 16 hours a day or so, and we couldn’t bring in outside food/drinks (we smuggled in bottled water and some food though cus fuck that noise). Pretty much my experience as a vendor was less than satisfactory at Revelations that year. I cannot speak for BrokenTier itself, but the fact that BrokenTier isn’t there again this year should tell you something.

Also, before some idiot tries to dig through the year old Revelations thread to quote me out of context when I said “I look forward to the next tournament” (this happened once already in another thread!), I was being nice and replying to Valle’s reply to my complaints about the tournament. Lo and behold Valle isn’t working with TL anymore. So much can change in a year.

kaoticdragon, I wish I was able to make it to NorCal Dog Fight today to shake your hand for exposing Tournament Legacy with a well thought post/thread.

My only experience with TL was SoCal Regionals 2010. Heard that one was the most positive one, and it proved to be true, because my experience was highly positive.

There was a 5v5 Norcal vs Socal side tournament for TvC. The winners would have their MvC3 copies reimbursted once it came out. Albeit it was a few weeks, John Nelson didn’t disappoint and I got the check for around $68. This tournament wasn’t even official, but it was organized to a good degree.

Also I managed to take first in TvC and the pay out seemed legitimate in that there was no shady stuff going on.

I will keep a cautious eye though for upcoming TL events. I was tempted to go to Revelations but I refrained to.

TheAnswer: "We gotta pull the plug on this one."
John Nelson: “Okay”

Holy fuck, I hate Twitch. What does that even mean?

I have nothing to do with any of this but I hope nothing like this ever happens again.

the rest of you stop relinking the stream like you’re breaking new ground

eSports - all about dat paypuh

Seriously, after reading that though, fuck these guys. We don’t need dealings like this ruining the integrity of the FGC.

Seriously.

Also, these reenactments are killing me. I love The Answer.

lol

Scumbag-run tournaments have taken place before in the east coast (NYC, Florida, etc.).

How Tournament Legends was able to operate past their first year is amazing…and stupid.

O snap john on the stream and the stream is poppin off.

>get on stream and play dumb

not a good look john

Max: “Press 1 if you want Jill to make out with the dog.”

GOOD SHIT, MAX. THAT’S JUST WHAT THE FGC NEEDED.

Would be nice to see the Capcom community, who I assume will see the money, stand in solidarity with the smaller communities and not put up with this shit. I can’t blame anyone who wants to be involved since there is a lot of money on the table, but it would be nice.
