John Nelson, Tournament Legacy, and Team HORI

So I normally don’t post at all on the forums but i was reading alot of posts from people that seem to be misconstruing details or they themselves are misinformed.
I used to be a professional fps player(not going to say who for) but I am familiar with the dealing of gaming companies like Col. Eg. etc. This may be the only guy to have done shit like this in the FGC, but I’ve been seeing shady shit go down with prize money for years. People like Mr.Nelson need to be removed from the community and taught a lesson, or they will not go away. One thing that is upsetting me is the blame put on Justin Wong and Filipino Champ. Well I don’t personally know either of these individuals, I know that if you are a sponsored player, from a sponsor that is brand such as Complexity or EG, you cannot boycott or badmouth a tournament. You have to support it, attend, and market the brand that is supporting you. About Filipino champ telling his stream monsters to sign up for revelations, from what I have seen of Mr.Champ over streams(and i don’t mean to badmouth somebody just my opinion) he is an asshole that trolls the stream monsters and his fellow players alike. He told you to sign up for the tournament so the pot would be bigger plain and simple. sorry for wall of text

About the KOF guys who walked out getting their money back…

If they already paid, and then walked out… they basically DQ’d themselves, right? It’s a dick move, but if someone was still in the tournament, I wouldn’t blame them for expecting the pot to still go to the winners. That’s assuming the tournament still played out.

If EVERYBODY walked out, then I’m still not sure if they’ll get their money back, because most every tournament has a “non-refundable” thing for fees.

I’m not trying to brush aside all the crap and drama that is surrounding this, but I’m just saying that the odds of getting money back may be slim.

So guys, I don’t play fighting games and I don’t keep track of tournaments, so can one of you forum experts break it down to me.

What did this guy do this weekend for which he can be held legally liable?

On what strawberry and eyeball said is true. They only used 60% of the venue and I wondered what happen to the other 40% did it get eaten by a black hole?
16 setups total for fighting games. 4 for P4U and rest were for AE/Marvel.
Very misleading schedule on the TL website. it said 8am was casual/warm up and 9am for roll call. Little did we know the they posted an “updated” schedule on fb page. Who would have guessed it would be posted in fb? NO ONE!. I could have updated/schedule the site in 2 mins tops with basic HTML.
DELAY DELAY DELAY and a lot of down time.

Strawberry said it the best

This really screwed the P4U player that didn’t even get to warm up.

The only thing I can say positive about my first major experiences was interacting with the pros and meet/play many cool players from the FGC, but the event it self was a let down.

Oh yeah, where’s Kusoru? He’s supposed to have a FT10 with Fchamp at Rev2012 and he’s no where to be seen. Ahhhh scummy JN.

I would like to think that most people know about this, but I doubt it

Wheres the stream at? :frowning:

get out

If the $3,000 guaranteed was never added to the tournament, they have every right to expect their money back; shouldn’t matter if they walked out, played and went 0-2 or whatever, they paid a entry fee for a $3,000 tournament and should absolutely throw a shit storm if they aren’t getting what they paid for.

Fuck the drama, I still wanna see a stream. I have nothing else to do.

I remember standing behind RedRapper as he vented out to Ian Cofino (I think?) about John Nelson at SoCal Regionals (or Revelations 2011?). I had no idea who he was talking about, but listening to this during some boring match was pretty entertaining.

I remember watching Gootecks being escorted out of the Proud Bird and wondering, “Did Gootecks just toss a stick or something?”.

I remember John Nelson coming up to me and the TvC crew after the tournament ended. He explained to us that Gootecks is really arrogant and made him seem like a scumbag. He talked to us for about 15 minutes about the Active Gamers incident, and why people dislike him when they should be hating on someone else. I don’t remember almost anything from the huge conversation, except feeling like, “Okay, so maybe it wasn’t fully this guy’s fault”. But after all I’ve read in this thread, it really comes down to 100 vs 1 (the 100 being the community rightfully putting this guy on blast). And I’ll definitely trust what I’ve read and heard from friends over what he himself said.

I’m just glad I chose not to go to this tourny. Seems like it would’ve been a wasted weekend, and waste of money. ESPECIALLY since all I would’ve entered would’ve been SFxT…

Here, watch this stream:

Unfortunately, if there are “non-refundable” and “subject to change” type clauses in their registration… they don’t have the right to anything I don’t think.

Not to say they shouldn’t throw a shit storm as you said, and I’m not even sure of the exact specifics (was it actually declared reduced by staff*?), *but I’m just saying that there’s often stipulations for registering that essentially throws away all liability. The bad PR from the move alone though should be enough to turn some heads and send a real message to the organizers, hopefully they’ll take it upon themselves to try and make people happy (returning entry fees, etc).

More like the sponsored/celebrity players but that money is singing that siren’s song.

they don’t owe you or anyone else nothing. People need to be adults make their own decisons

It’s ridiculous that the games with small communities (blazblue, sfxt, kof) can get taken advantage of without more than a slap on the wrist. If this happened to marvel or street fighter something would’ve be done about it because that’s what all the high rollers play. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the pots for those games were reduced to fill the pots for marvel and street fighter.

thats why it shocks me that people on to this “community” thing. At the end of the day and even top players its all about the money. Only a minority of people actually care about the “community” as a whole .

btw you never trust a man with a hairline like that. Thought this was common sense?
