Joe Quesada ruined my Marriage!: The Spider-Man Thread

No I’m just messing with you.

Thats show is still fucking awesome I don’t care what you say.

Gwen Stacy is spidermans true love, but the black cat is his best fit personality wise. never been a big fan of Mary jane aside from when McF made her sexy.

I wonder if spidey will get his dash cr lk inf again? XD

Fair enough.

Yeah, i like Gwen and Black Cat too. Especially in Spectacular.

You’re the first person I’ve ever met that preferred Gwen to MJ. Seriously, MJ was changed to the main romance due to fan response alone. It was originally penned to be Gwen. I don’t even remember Gwen’s personality. It was so long ago.

heh, i love blondes

I really hope for Green Goblin (Hobgoblin but I ain’t gonna get my hopes up) or Doc Ock or someone OTHER than Venom is we get a Spidey villain.

You must not frequent alot of comic circles then(no offence intended). Alot of people like Gwen.

It wasn’t because of fans response btw, most people were pissed when they killed Gwen. Sending angry letters to Marvel, saying how they ruined the book for doing that(sounds familiar?).

It’s why alot of people were happy that they went with her in the recent too(And for staying true to spidey’s source).

man i remember that 90’s spiderman intro. The guitar was so awesome in that theme

mary jane was the wild party girl, gwen was the shy (but HOT) bookworm like peter. MJ was with harry osborn at first. i also loved how house of m revealed who peter really wished he could be with

More of a reason we were robbed with losing Spectacular. We got to see the return of prominence for Gwen, especially late in the second season. Not to mention a pretty damn good Goblin swerve.

Spectacular (what little I saw of it) was pretty good.

Yeah, nostalgia aside, the 90s Spiderman cartoon hasn’t aged all too well…

EXCEPT FOR THE DAMN THEME MUSIC. SHIT KICKED ALL KINDS OF ASS.

Yeah, will say that. Maybe if Spectacular had that theme it wouldn’t have gotten screwed.

Aren’t they coming out with another Spider-Man series soon? I recall hearing that somewhere.

Yeah, Ultimate Spider-Man which will immediately get put under the ultimate microscope. If it isn’t as good as Spectacular, Marvel will get crucified.

yeah the Intro to that show was awesome

When I was a kid I loved the 90s Spider-man cartoon, but after rewatching it a few years ago and taking off my nostalgia goggles I realized it’s not as good as I thought it was. Don’t get me wrong I don’t hate it. The first season was the best but after that is when things started to go downhill.

Here’s why I find Spectacular Spider-man better than STAS.

  • The animation is very fluid is SSM. The characters move really well. Spider-man moves fast like he’s supposed to. In the 90s cartoon the animation was choppy and had lots of errors. There was stiff character movement. Spider-man didn’t move that fast or that well. Just about every episode used stock footage.

  • The action scenes are way more intense in SSM. Spider-man actually punches his foes. They’re allowed to break glass during the fights. A few episodes had Spidey’s costume getting ripped. Most of the fight scenes in TAS just consisted of grappling and throwing. Infact in a few episodes of the 90’s show Spidey gets hit once and then he’s beat or too weak to carry on fighting. But Spidey in SSM gets punched alot, chucked through buildings, gets slammed against walls or cars etc and yet he still gets up and carries on fighting. All of this punishment probably would have killed the 90’s Spidey

  • The plots, writing, and character development which are the main things that matter when making a show are much better here. Gwen Stacy is part of the cast for the first time, MJ is the cool party girl finally, Flash develops into a? person, and many characters shine. Spidey has the supporting cast and this show is the first to use them. Each character is likable('cept Sally) and developed enough Peter doesn’t have to be there for there? to be a story.

  • Norman Osborn(his arch nemesis) was nothing but a whiny little bitch in TAS. Let’s take both Norman’s reactions to the Vulture. 90s Norman runs away screaming, whimpering, and begging for his life. SSM Norman is being carried hundreds of feet in the air by Vulture who’s flying about 100 mph and not only is he not afraid, he insults him. Even when he got dropped he still didn’t scream. The difference is as clear as day and night. SSM got him right. TAS didn’t.

  • Doc Ock(his other arch-nemesis) being nothing but a lackey to Kingpin. Hell Kingpin stole Ock’s thunder in TAS by creating the Sini…err I mean Insidious 6. That was Ock’s work of genius at work in the comics which SSM fortunatly acknowledged. Not to mention the two parter where Ock brainwashed Spidey into helping him could have been a good way for him to claim his arch nemesis status but was once again ruined by the fact that he was working for Kingpin. Kingpin didn’t even attribute to anything other than showing Ock wasn’t acting on his own. This is the episode where Ock got beat by a little girl. And then there’s the Black Cat two parter. Ock at first starts off on his own looking for that formula then all of a sudden Kingpin shows up. Brings Ock back to his base and after some fancy talking points Ocks back to being Kingpin’s lackey for another two parter.

  • Just about everything in TAS being tied to Kingpin. I mean seriously the man was EVERYWHERE. They would even find someway to shoehorn him into stories where he didn’t belong in. Almost every villain was either created by him, worked for him, or tried to take over his empire. SSM was able to have Tombstone as the Big Man without EVERYONE working for him. Some started out that way but then went off on their own.

  • CDB really overacted at times. “MAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRY JAAAAAAAAAAAAANE!” or “MADAME WEEEEEEEEB!” or my favorite one “SHOOOOOOOOCKER! YOU CAN’T ESCAPE ME! I’LL CHASE YOU TO THE ENDS OF THE EAAAARTH!”

  • In TAS Electro not only not being Max Dillion, but making him Red Skull’s son. I’d love to see someone try to defend this.

  • No Sandman in TAS.

  • Morbius who’s not a major foe having more screentime than Norman’s GG, Hobgoblin, Venom, Mysterio, Vulture, Shocker, and Rhino. That’s just plain wrong.

  • In SSM Venom was much more sinister and actually felt more of a threat. In every incarnation he’s been in he’s had knowledge of Spidey’s alter ego and what has he done with that info? Absolutely nothing. In SSM he finally cuts the BS and outright reveals his idenity in front of the Bugle staff. He later tries to prove it by(in front of a bunch of reporters and news cameras) webbing Spidey to a car, unmasking him, and forcing him to drink Gene Cleanser, which not only would have stripped Peter of his powers, but also put him and everyone he’s close to at the mercy of the criminal empire. Now THAT’S how you ruin a masked superheroes life. Not to mention that in his first appearance he takes Gwen(whom Brock liked) hostage and hangs her on a Thanksgiving parade float and whenever Spidey tried to rescue her he interfered. Gwen would have died if it wasn’t for MJ, Flash and other students who were present. In the 90s cartoon all Venom did was just chase him around. So I really don’t understand how people can say TAS version is better than SSM.

  • In TAS stupid things like making Spidey leader of the Secret Wars didn’t help either. Spidey is many things but a leader he is not, and there’s no way any of those characters, some of them proven leaders (Captain America, Mr. Fantastic, Storm, etc) would ever take orders from him.

Anyone notice how in the 90s Spidey cartoon everything moved all fast?

Now that’s a fan. I like dedication. :3

I actually sorta liked that part.

Spidey looks fucking awesome, he has been on my MvC2 team since i first played the game and I’m glad he looks as good as he does. 2/3rds of my MvC2 is confirmed, now all I need is Guile to be announced! I know it won’t happen :[
