Jill fell out of a window. The Chris Redfield Teammates discussion thread

well new to the forums and to using Chris. currently running what i call Team Blond Guys - Captain America(Shield Slash) / Chris (Machinegun) / Strider (Vajra). my captain is okish so im trying to work on leveling up my Chris next. any pointers or criticisms on this team and how to approach a fight using Chris? I typically don’t use Chris until Cap’n America has died or if i get two bars then i DHC into Sweep combo. I try to use Vajra assist to cover that vertical space that Chris sucks at fighting in against the typical flyer (Trish, Doom, etc.). Typical DHC order if Captain (Hyper Charging Star -> Sweep Combo -> Legion/Ragnarok (Depending on meter)). My two biggest problems currently are opening up people cause feels like all my normals get beat out as well as me getting opened up while trying to zone with mines, grenades, and gunshots.

Right now Im experimenting with Chris Y/ Task A/ and either Wesker Y or Vergil Y. Any critiques or changes I should make for the team? My Task is a bit scrub but Im working on him now. Other than that my Chris and Vergil is solid and my Wesker is pretty decent.

How viable is Jill/Chris/Wesker?

Jill and Wesker are fine together, but neither of them do much for Chris assist wise. He needs a good assist like Sentinel Drones or Akuma’s Tatsumaki to control space, Jill or Wesker don’t really offer that. But, if you’re a fan of Resident Evil and want to play that team, then go ahead, as you’ll have more fun with the characters you enjoy, rather than picking characters just because they serve a purpose.

Yeah I’m just going with a S.T.A.R.S theme, buying the alts too (Where’s one for Jill  )

Yeah I was feeling that Chris would be lacking a bit without a decent assist to cover ground, I’ll see how the team works out anyway

I don’t actually know. But from what I gather Jill’s and Magneto’s have to be bought separately. Although, you can buy the costume pack for everybody, I believe.

I’d say play it anyways. Just have fun with it.

Ah I mean the S.T.A.R.S uniform for Jill, I think you get her alt for free when you purchase Jill.

Not a fan of the RE5 costume

Just checked, you do get her alt. I’m not a fan of this Jill, bring back MVC2 Jill anytime!
Do characters have two alts?

They all have one alt each iirc

Yeah bring back MvC2 Jill :frowning:

That’s what I thought too.
I guess Capcom wanted to go by storylines? As MVC2 Jill hadn’t been brainwashed, I guess. Still disappointing nonetheless. And Sakura and Ken would have been cool too, I don’t care whether they’re Shotos!

Hah yeah, I’m a huge Sakura fan here.

Ran Cammy/Jill/Sakura in MvC2 but it was only casual play.

Really, I just want more SF characters.

I never got to play MVC2 when it was in its peak. (Too young, lol). (And not to make you feel old.) :stuck_out_tongue:

Heh, I’m probably younger actually :stuck_out_tongue: (18 here)

The MvC2 was the PSN version, never played an original copy of it, I feel we’re derailing the thread quite a bit :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, I see, Well I’m only 24. Anyways, let get back to Chris, before we get infracted! :stuck_out_tongue:

Sup guys, new Chris player and Marvel player in general. I like the Chris/Sentinel combination and I’m def going to be using it on my Chris team. I watched a lot of GC Yoshis videos and noticed how you use Spencer Assist/Grenade Launcher so you can get Flamethrower—>Sweep Combo in corners. My question is are their any other assist that work like this? I don’t really like using spencer but I can’t think of another way to get Grenade Launcher to successfuly hit like that. Grenade Launcer doesn’t work on airborne characters correct? Thanks guys

There are quite a few assists that allow for a full connect of the grenade super. There was this one video that showed off a great deal of them, but it seems to have been taken down. Rules of thumb: Anything that’ll cause a groundbounce, wallbounce or hard knock down will allow for it, or anything that holds the character in place for a long time. I use Chun’s lighting legs or Iron Fist’s rising fang. Really though, you’ll just have to experiment.

Omg going to the lab now. I hope Tenderizer works.

EDIT: Some advice I got from a fellow Smasher.

Strider, Rocket Raccoon, and Wesker can help Chris connect his Grenade Launcher.

For Chris/strider you do cr. H + Varaja assist, Grenade toss M into Grenade Super, Grenade Toss M should pop them up to make all of the Grenade Super properly combo.

For Chris/Rocket, call out Rocky’s Log Trap at the same time you do the Grenade Super in a corner and the whole thing will connect.

For Chris/Wesker you can do the a standard air combo into the corner, grenade toss M + Wesker’s OTG assist and then Grenade Super.

I don’t plan on playing Wesker or Strider but this may help someppl.

Ok, I’ve been seeing weird stuff like this:

(the relevant bit is 27 seconds in. I’d link directly to that moment, but linking youtube videos as text on this forum is apparently goddamn impossible)

You can see there that using the team super with two bars, Bum gets Chris, his anchor, to come out instead of Hulk for the THC. How?

Semi-related: It would seem that people can control which character comes out in arial-exchanges as well, and I don’t know how that works either. I’ve searched the forums a bit, but haven’t found anything.

This happens if you just used your 2nd partner for an assist, then the game will skip over that character and go straight to your last character when trying to TAC. The THC trick only works if you have 2 bars otherwise all your characters come out.

Instead of doing cr.H to M grenade, you should do whatever starter (must preserve ground bounce) to call Strider assist to jumping magnum. Once you land and the opponent is in hard knockdown throw the M grenade into super.

You can also do j.Magnum (land) call assist and flamethrower. Hold the flamethrower until you see Strider hover over them and immediately do M grenade. This nets you more damage and meter.
