some meaty Balrog TAP tricks i’ve been working on whenever i have access to the game… i’ve found some better setups since my friend recorded this for me but i’m just spreading awareness about it… meaty level 1 TAP can be +4 on BLOCK , and +8 and +11 on counter HIT if done properly.

Here are the vids.

[media=youtube]s4bnVtSxcyM[/media] This one shows you can block chun’s super. Normally level 1 TAP is -2 on block.

This is possible because TAP has 7 active frames so hitting on the last active frame gives u more frame advantage. You guys should try out your own setups as well.

The easiest setup i found is this,normal throw (charge TAP on the last headbutt of the throw so u dont exceed level 1 TAP), mash on dash to get earliest possible dash, then during the dash hold down-back, to get earliest possible crouch, then crouch for a slight moment, then release the TAP. once you practice this its pretty easy.

I’m trying to find an even easier setup for this so that I can just auto pilot with safe meaty TAPs. Similar to how Ryu’s option select is so simple (sweep, hold u/f for earliest possible jump, meaty jump RH, buffered with DP/tatsu/super/sweep/or ultra depending on the situation)

P.S. - I haven’t been too active in these threads anymore because I don’t have a console anymore so I can’t practice anything. I had to sell my PS3 so that I can pay for school. I still play with the EMPire guys, Long Island Joe and issei from time to time.

You can do the MEATY safe TAP also with back throw.
It’s the same setup of normal throw:

back throw + tap buttons
mash forward dash and then hold down-back
wait just a bit
release the buttons.

If it connects you can easily combo with cr.lk xx HB, ultra1.

Jav1ts, regarding the meaty TAP setup your opp can still reversal with some invincible move (before the TAP hits) or can you recover in time and block the reversal? Same question EX SPD for example and other command grabs.

Yes, reversals with invincible moves do beat out TAP before it hits. It would really work best vs characters who don’t have good reversal options. Also, even though versus characters that CAN reversal before the TAP hits, you can still use it. It’s a matter of how well you know your opponent and when you feel you can go for it. It’s good to take risks sometimes, the rewards can be very good. It’s like jumping versus a [fireball>uppercut] character, if they spaced and timed their fireballs correctly, they can uppercut you every time but does that mean that they will? Probably not. A lot of the tricks I use or suggest aren’t unbeatable or the greatest. They are intended to make you come up with your own ideas for interesting punishes and/or setups or whatever. The more knowledge and tricks you have at your disposal combined with strong fundamentals (patience, footsies, anti-airing, spacing) and knowing when to take risks ultimately will make you a better player. I personally aim to have the best Balrog in the world so I explore all of the character’s capabilities and limitations :slight_smile:

New safe jump vs sagat and more characters updated in main post with video. I’m working on some new meaty setups as well. I found out how to standing roundhouse (high kick) into ultra without counter hit. Very easy setup. i’ll make a vid on that soon. Also found a new force stand combo that works on everyone. vids coming soon

no it works anywhere, if they are in the corner too soon just replace the jump in fierce with neutral jump fierce.
