Pretty sure its been established that ninjas as we know them in pop culture from the last 20 years and what not, are just made-up. The black suits were actually worn by stage hands back in the day to assist on-the-fly in plays, without standing out too much. Someone just thought it looked cool and started writing fiction about them.
Any Ninjas that did exist, were likely just hired guns/hitman type assassins. They didn’t dress up cool at all, but just wore plain clothes to hide in plain sight. Ninjas are supposed to be masters of deception, wearing an elaborate outfit just gets you spotted 10x easier.
Yeah, sorry fans. It can be a cool anime at times, but Naruto is a pussy compared to the prototypical badass assassins of lore.
