I guess that explains why Japan Arcade was closed the last time I stopped by after karaoke lol. I hope I can check this place out again once I’m back down in SoCal.
Any chance we would be seeing tournaments?
I would support.
We’ve had talks about tournaments. We’re thinking about a BlazBlue or SF4 tournament soon. I’ll post online whenever we decide to have one. It might wait until we can bring consoles in, though.
I’m glad it’s under new ownership. I have a reason to stop by that mall now.
Nice, any chance you guys might get KOF XIII v.1.1? I can get A LOT of people from the Broadway arcade to go if you do. I’m serious.
tbh, no. We can’t even afford KoF13 for FFA. Right now most of our budget is going to go towards SSF4:AE. Once Japan Arcade can hold its own we’ll start aiming for newer games that aren’t hand me downs from FFA. For now the only thing we can do is upgrade minor things (GGXX -> GGAC, T5 -> T5:DR, etc.).
There’s a lot that we want to get even at FFA: T6:BR, KoF13, MBAA, but SSF4:AE costs so much that we can’t get it.
Sounds fair, I’ll keep an eye and hope for the best.
We’ll definitely announce any major new games either at FFA or at JA. But for now, we’re just trying to bring in some old but good stuff (American cabinets, MvC2, CvS2, BlazBlue CT, etc.), adding consoles, adding a snack bar, and fixing everything in the arcade. That’s a lot of work on our plate.
Lol a snack bar?
You sure it is even going to fit? Japan Arcade is tiny.
But I am all for it though.
There’s a rather large section behind where SF4 is, and it’s all being unused. That will probably be for consoles. We’ve got something small for sodas and some snacks already set up.
This.
JA is quite tiny, pool table and air hockey table dont help either.
Huh, I guess I never noticed that. Never bothered to check what goes on behind that machine.
Still, rather small. Any chance you will post up pics of the place?
Haha I remember place this was owned by an old Korean family. There was a guy wearing a Japanese rising sun hat and a Korean grandpa started lecturing him about all the terrible things the Japanese did to the Koreans.
I went here today (around 3:30). They got SF4 running on two huge setups. The sticks and buttons were not in good form, but the owner assured me that they will have both japanese and american setups for each player by next week.
There is a good amount of space next to SF4 to house pretty much anything. The place is not bad, tons of 3s (never really played the game before). I work just up the street, so I plan on coming in before and after work.
Where was the virtua on? I didn’t see it.
Virtua On is in the corner by Initial D 3. The P2 joystick isn’t working very well, but we’ll get to fixing that soon.
EDIT: tbh, that list of games was current as of Saturday night. We’ve been moving so much lately that it very much could have changed since I’ve last been there.
what are your proposed hours of operation?
Not 100% sure yet. I think we’re looking at staying open until 2am on Friday and Saturday and Midnight on every other day. It really sort of depends on when there will be people. I’ll get back to you on that when I talk to Ralph.
any chance this place will get KOFXIII? if the answer is yes then I’ll be here every fucking day and night.
oh and beard papa’s is gdlk
EDIT: never mind, just saw the above post
This explains why I saw Ralph there a while back when I was there. This is awesome news since Japan Arcade has been my home arcade for the last few years.
Question about parking: I park in the structure and purchase something at the market to get 2 hour parking for free and if I don’t want to pay, I park at the market’s little parking lot. Since you guys plan to run tournaments and since it looks like the sticks and everything are going to be in great shape, I plan to be chillin’ in the arcade for a while. Have/will you guys set anything up as in free parking in the structure with JA validation or anything like that?
This is nice. I haven’t been there before, but I’m always around Little Tokyo and getting ramen with buddies. I’ll be sure to stop by next time I’m down.
