Any chance for a Pump it Up?
The plaza itself stays open till about 2. They turn off the escalators at midnight, I think, but you can still walk in and out after 3. There’s a karaoke bar on the second floor, and some restaurants with bars, so 2am is the general time. There’s also a club on the ground floor. If you’re leaving the place at about 2:20am there’s a lot of traffic.
There isn’t really much of an option for any other method. This is the best we can do for now, things might change in the future.
We can work on installing a USB hub which will let you bring your own Japanese Xbox360 joysticks to plug into the machine. That whole set-up was already complete from FFA, so we just brought it over for a quick install. We have a ton on our plate, and I didn’t even think of installing a hub on there until now.
The game itself works, but it has been known to crash from time to time. There is a big problem with that Taito X2 board (X2 boards have been known to fail a lot, we’ve replaced at least 3 already at FFA). With the money we’ve spent on AE and KoF13 at both arcades, we’ve been sort of neglecting buying a new board for CS. We were actually just about to order a couple new boards, but then the earthquake happened… It might be awhile before we can replace that board.
I fixed them about 3-4 months ago. If something’s come up since then it’s news to me. I’ll check them out if I have some time for it. There’s a lot of stuff broken still, so it might take some time.
Not really. I was thinking about editing the hack that’s on the ITG machine. I hacked the one at FFA, but the owner bought the one at Japan Arcade pre-hacked, and I think he did a pretty poor job. There’s just a lot on my list right now, and that’s more at the bottom of it.
Last time I went BlazBlue was working. I was there for a couple of hours too and there was a few people playing when I got there.
I will swing by this Friday afternoon for some 3s, AE and maybe MvC3.
That bakery downstairs cream puffs is amazing delicious.
Hey yo, instead of going to Yogurtland or Pinkberry if you really want that froyo, the place downstairs (Cherry On Top) is pretty boss. Same level of yogurt, same choices, etc., except you don’t have to wait as long for yogurt during peak times. On top of that, they have a NES set up there with SMB3 and Contra.
Well, then again, you’d go to Yogurtland or Pinkberry for the eye-candy, at least.
That place downstairs costs a bit more, 39 cents an ounce instead of Yogurt Lands 30 cents.
friday nites c u guys there
Eh, I’ll take the extra pricing for convenience/no wait.
And they got Leninade there, if you really want.
Word, Ill try to stop by on Friday if I can. If not Friday I might go by Sunday afternoon. I’m literally 5 mins away from this mall, so if people wanna play, just hit me up.
might have to come down here for some mvc3 since it seems like the closest place to me that his it. the stick setup sounds weird but worth checking out
It would be cool if there was an air conditioner or something to keep the heat out.
I swear, it felt super hot by the Arcade Edition machine. Was the heater on? Shit felt like 90 degrees in there.
word. I played it in its first week back in fall 2010 and there was input lag for both machine buttons and pad, unplayable. It was good the next time I visited though.
I guess I’ll throw in a game request?
Does Japan Arcade have an internet connection? If so, any chance for a Technika 2? (The cheaper Solo cabinet that comes out later this year, unofficial price is said to be $6.5k.) Closest other locations are UCLA and Round1. The (online) game is supposed to print money (with Technika card sales).
So I stopped by the place the other night. It’s a pretty nice spot. The mall itself seemed like a ghost town and there wasn’t really anyone in the arcade. Because of this I didn’t end up playing the mvc3 setup, but it seemed pretty strange - an xbox jury-rigged to an old american cabinet with a big old tube monitor. Does the game display letterboxed? Or is the aspect ratio distorted? I noticed two flatscreens in the corner next to it with xbox controllers - is it possible to run marvel on those and use our own sticks? There were some other cool games (and of course the AE setup was pretty sweet) and one annoying DDR machine (note to guy stomping on it thurs night - it doesn’t count if you have to hold onto the rail). The 99 game neo cab was nice, but no shock troopers! Anyway, maybe if comp starts coming out I will try to make it out there more.
My guess is comp heads to Japan Arcade on the weekend P Gorath. There was a good amount of people last Saturday evening around 5/6. I stuck around until 8 or 9. Most people were playing AE or Initial D from what I saw.
I was at this arcade with a buddy last night and played AE for a bit. Nice set up. Glad to know this is do close to my work. I can pretty much hit this up everyday so if anyone wants competition just post and i can probably stop by in the afternoons
you’re funny, but you should stick to talking about games you play
If the “rail” didn’t count, Konami would have removed it from their budget American cabinets years ago to shave costs. The fact that they didn’t should tell you something.
But Cherry on Top has more options than Yogurtland. I go for the toppings; I stay for Super Mario Bros.
@ld_asz: Hi my friends are trying organize a KOF XIII tournament at Japan Arcade they are regulars there since they work around the area but the cab for the game is causing lack of interest from the other players in SoCal since they are American style sticks and the monitor is a CRT. Would it be possible to set up the game in a better cab? Maybe for at least the day of the tournament LCD monitor and SANWA?
Some of them feel like second class citizens since SF4 gets the best stuff and they get the left overs. Let me know if it’s possible and I’ll encourage them to organize something there.
It’s unlikely we’ll get any new games like that any time soon. There’s so much coming out and it all costs a lot of money. It could still happen, though; I’ll let you know if news develops on it.
- We’ve only got one copy of the game over there, so we can’t set it up on another system. We’ll install a USB hub soon so you can plug in your own controllers. CRT monitors are actually pretty good; they have 0 lag compared to most HD screens, and the picture remains really crisp. The picture is letter-boxed, MvC3 is pretty good about that.
- That Neo Geo has Shock Troopers 2, I forgot what it was called, though, something else. The only thing I don’t like about that Neo Geo cab is that all of the games are set at level 8 difficulty, which can be really stupid for most of the SNK fighters (I’m talking to you, Samurai Shodown V Special!).
The rail was designed as a safety feature. It wasn’t really thought of as necessary for gameplay until MAX300, when players originally thought the song impossible without holding onto the bar. There’s a huge debate within the community about whether the bar counts or not. Since songs are beatable without the bar, and the bar makes songs 2x easier, I would say that the bar doesn’t count. I can understand using it for practice to beat the song for real, though.
There’s two things that I don’t like about Cherry On Top:
They freeze their fruit, which makes it less tasty, and makes it more solid.
They don’t have hot fudge or hot caramel, they have it room temperature.
Other than that, they have a very good selection of toppings.
We’ll see what we can do. We are planning on switching out the monitor with an HDTV, but I don’t think we have any plans to switch out the American panel. If most players would prefer a Japanese cabinet, we’ll consider putting one in, though.
How would they go about requesting the change in the control panel? Would they have to sing a petition or just talk to they staff? I can have them all get together and talk to you in person if necessary.
Any idea on the time frame the monitor will be changed?
I don’t mean to sound too demanding it’s just that KOF is never taken serious at the arcade and I know that part of it is because the players never say anything cause they are used to being second or third best.
thank you,
